It may be common sense but 85% of the population is naturally disorganized and putting things away is not easy for everyone. If we can get to this stage then a huge accomplishment has happened.
After the putting away and the recycling happen what is remaining is considered Homeless...things like that cheque book that is just laying around.
It is a real process that has 6 distinct steps.Again, thanks for commenting.I will be making more videos.
I think you should change the description of the video, then. It's misleading.
I'm not naturally disorganized, I'm hyper-organized and tend to make too many "categories" for everything, which results in disorganization, if that makes sense. (For instance, I don't wash "darks" and "lights." I wash "greens" and "yellows" and "reds" and "blues" ... ) My clutter exists because each homeless item belongs in its own category, and I don't have enough shelves for every category. :)
My countertop is also almost clean. Just a bunch of spices is all I need to be there. I don't think it's a good idea to pull all equipment one has right on the countertop, after all all you won't need each of them every day...
I agree, I keep only what I need on the counter. I have my coffee machine, my crock pot utensil holder and my fav cookbooks, everything else is tucked away. Thanks for commenting
One thing I'd like to add here is that the more clutter on the kitchen counters, the more places you have for germs and insects to hide. I have extended family members whose counters you can't even see through the clutter, grease, and dust. Food poisoning, anyone?
I keep most kitchen related items in the cabinets, not on the countertops. I also don't keep things like chicken roasters, bread machines, toaster ovens, etc. because my oven will do it all, without clutter!
@mundymanor You see, I also don't like chicken roasters, bread machines, etc. But I do like toaster ovens. They're about the same size as a toaster, and they can do more things. My family doesn't have a toaster, just a toaster oven, because we like making things like quesidillias, and it's perfect for that!
@xxmikaylaxmadnessxx -- I used to have a toaster oven once; it was one of those SpaceSaver under-the-counter jobbies, but it got recalled for fire hazard. Kinda got spooked from the toaster ovens after that... but it sure did make a warmed-up leftover pizza taste a thousand times better than the microwave!

Doesn't really say anything that's not common sense.
"Clean off the counter by putting things away, recycling or throwing away."
Doesn't even touch the problem of homeless items.

Are these rules and categories self imposed or handed down from family?

I have a tip to lessen clutter on the kitchen island: use it for its intended purpose, TO PREP AND SERVE FOOD!

Great comments, love the reference to germs, sometimes we forget that clutter breeds germs!
Thanks

Then you need to sort in like categories and then you can purge anyhting you haven't used in the past year and get rid of duplicates.
