get me wrong, but when the student said "i felt nothing" makes me wonder in a metaphoric sense, that its the same concept as "the force" from star wars. its energy pushing you away. I know it looks hokey to anybody who hasn't experienced this level of Taiji mastery, but I assure you it is real.
One of my many taiji push hands teachers displays this kind of skill and he's in his 80's and hobbles around with a cane, yet once he touches you, you are like a rag doll in his hands.
There's nothing magical about it, it boils down to using extreme sensitivity to control an opponents center with minimal force.
Reality can not manifest its self if YOU do not think it is possible. The student and the master know it is real because they THINK it is and are allowed to feel it as so. Disbelievers are not privileged with such energy because they do not accept it as reality there for it can not become real for them. its all in the thought.

the master simply takes the "opponent's" balance in extremely subtle ways at which instant the "opponent's" body responds reflexively to keep from falling over. it is extremely subtle but it's the same as being struck by the reflex hammer below your kneecap causes your leg to kick. it is completely out of your control. Like slipping on ice. your bodies response is completely automatic & you simply fall. there is no more thought involved than what you see here. the master is the ice.

@Nhordmyr Qigong is to cultivate one's Qi. To accumulate and circulate it to enhance health and potential ability. BUT this is not Qigong. It is a demonstration of high level Taijiquan skill. Qigong will not be lost to history, neither will the skills of the internal arts such as Taijiquan.

@hengfa being aware does not make an expert let alone a Master. If you have been thrown Tai Chi style then you would not make those claims. Please explain why someone being televised by CNN is in any sense fraudulent. Are you saying that CNN which produced the video documentary some years back is not reputable? Master Shi Ming could be observed freely and regularly in Purple Bamboo Park doing what you see here so what exactly is the fraud? There are very few masters like this
@tajicentre i'm sorry, but 1st u must familiarize yourself with the scientific method. there is something called falsifiability. double blind study. sorry but CNN is •NOT• an authority. they report. they do not TEST. if this master were to be placed in a prison yard, for example, and there attacked, he would be slaughtered. I have indeed worked with many tai ji masters, and why I can say this is completely different these attacks are cooperative, he isnt being resisted. hence, fraudulent claims.

I found the contact ones "unbelievable" too when I first saw demonstrations, but it is the epitome of Taiji and its secrets appear to be no more than training and understanding human physics. It is not 'projecting Qi' in the way we westerners take that statement to mean. The other level demonstrated is beyond regular Taijiquan and has its own character. Master ShiMing is not the only practitioner of it.

Get used to reality everyone. Break free from the herd mentality and open your own eyes to the changing world around you. The Ancient Chinese Masters watched animals to learn how to cultivate their physical power, and a few like Master Shi (Shr) have persisted to even higher levels. This is a physical SKILL of intercepting and repelling physical force. Forget about Qi. Qi is for healing. He is demonstrating Jin / POWER. NOT "projecting his energy". Energy is used for Power. Energy is conserved.

@Britishfever456 Taiji might be classified as Wushu for sport competitions but it is vastly different in its intent and training and for anyone wishing to develop "Traditional" Taiji skills they cannot also cultivate Wushu skills. Wushu practice prevents the body learning to respond to force the Taiji way, so they are mutually exclusive. CXW is not known as a "Wushu master" (even if he won Gold medals in Wushu competitions- he is "only" but none the less well- respected, Taijiquan master.
@tajicentre The fact that you don't know what Wu Shu means tells me perhaps you don't know much about Chinese Martial Arts.Wu Shu is the umbrella term for ALL Chinese martial arts,Taiji, Bagua, Baji, Pigua etc.You may have misundertood Wu Shu for 'modern wushu.'The fundamental forces employed in Wu Shu are the same. CXW may have used Chen frame of Taiji to build his martial skills.Yet others have used Baji or Tanglang. All trainings starts 'external' and moves to more refined 'internal' levels.

@tajicentre Some teachers no doubt have a high level of skill. Students, prepared to give what it takes, go to these teachers to acquire some of his skill. In sucking up to the teacher, they put up with this kind of nonsense. I would say I've trained with some very respected authorities in Taiji. Non of them do this nonsense. I've been thrown 10+ feet away with throws and have fallen hard with Shuai Jiao techniques. I am also fortunate to have learnt skills to throw my own students of 15+ years.
@tajicentre It would be wrong to start to describe TaijiQuan as some unique power. All Chinese Martial forms have Taiji (yinyang) at its root. The interaction of two opposite forces creates a dynamic third force. This is not unique to Taiji Quan. It's a natural phenomena. For example, sunlight energy + atmospheric gases = photosynthesis. Hsing I, Baji, Choy Li Fut, White Crane, etc, all have higher levels. Just because you don't know, you reduce one to hard and one to soft. Why the need?
@Britishfever456 Ok - beyond my knowledge there. My understanding s that there are few styles of the taijiquan tradition that create the effect of a repelling force. Do you say that ALL wushu styles have this characteristic- fajin - where opponents are bounced off.
@tajicentre The respectable styles have Fa Jin components. Clearly, the 'modern wushu' is similar to the Shaolin acrobatic school in that non of the training actually develops martial Gong because Li is trained wrongly. For example, summersaults and cartwheles develop gymnastic skills. Gymnastics won't save your live when being attacked. Conditioning? Perhaps. Martial Arts were developed to reach a high level of fighting/killing skill.
@tajicentre These public displays are nothing but a show of arrogance and attitude, exploiting students or disciples for the teachers own gains. The issue is worse with 'sworn in' disciples who are told they are being shown the secrets of their arts and that they must not show someone else until they are 'sworn in' too.
@tajicentre The fact is that aquistion of high level skills takes a long time and a lot of hard work. To mislead students that the material in this video is high level tai chi, in my opinion, is irresponsible to say the least.

@tajicentre I would advise you to check out more realistic samples of Taiji Quan rather than waste time on wishy washy fairytales as shown in this video. Try the likes of Chen Zhonghua or his teachers.
@tajicentre Has a bit more skill - at least Peter is making some rooted contact. But would be wrong to assume that Peter achieved greater skill than his teacher, the respected Hong Jun Sheng. Although Hong was known as very powerful, we didn't see anything of the like from him like we see in this video.
@tajicentre Another example of a good Taiji master, who had genuine skill was Huang Sheng Sian of Malaysia. Watch the real videos of him fighting a wrestler. When it came to his own students, they all became like putty, just to elevate the status and skill of their teacher. Some actually believe the distant 'qi control' to be true! These actions are not befitting of otherwise, respectable teachers.

However my understanding is that it is so as a matter of culture / politics. It is not because of similar characteristics of those traditional arts either in their training or use in defense. Please justify 'ALL' trainings starts 'external' and moves to more refined 'internal' levels." I cannot agree that Taiji fits that description -li is not trained.
@tajicentre When we're corrected on our stances, postures and breathing and told to do it 'like this', this forms our external training. When we are good enough to combine form practise with tui shou methods and have a good understaning of Chan Si Jing, we are able to repel our opponents 10+ feet away. This is the internal level understanding built on years of what appeared external training. Hope this makes sense.

@tajicentre All respectable styles train strength but not at a cost of compromising internal body dynamics/mechanics. The degree of understanding and applicationof one's chosen art determines whether its been internalised or not. The difference between the beginner and advanced student is one who utilises the correct forces the right way. The higher levels of all forms of Wu Shu is internal. All beginner levels start on external movements to discover flow, root, economy of power transfer etc

Master Shi is not taking the"micky" out of the Taijiquan tradition or of any living teacher - he is inspiring them to higher skills. Just because one cannot conceive of it yet does not mean it is not possible. Einstein said of his famous equation that it was "not possible", but its very existence enabled the most damaging weapon to be unleashed in human history.

@dekal1 Yes that's right. Oppponent flys back in relationship to the amount of the power of their attack, which is then rebounded invisibly back at the opponent. If you just stood there the master would have to make a forward movement (ie stepped in towards the opponent) to augment his power, to forcefully cause the opponent to 'fly back'. Flying back helps the opponent dissipate some of the force, otherwise it would impact as if being hit with a iron bar. Masters do not aim to kill in demos!
I'm sure there were some 'masters' back in the days that were smart enough to profit off the stupidity of people back then. There was no youtube or google for them to know about things. It was all word of mouth and taught in schools and books. The legends of Chi and Chi Gong surely benefited some bad people.

I know it looks hokey to anybody who hasn't experienced this level of Taiji mastery, but I assure you it is real.
One of my many taiji push hands teachers displays this kind of skill and he's in his 80's and hobbles around with a cane, yet once he touches you, you are like a rag doll in his hands.
There's nothing magical about it, it boils down to using extreme sensitivity to control an opponents center with minimal force.

(Taijiquan is trained skill and this level is higher. Manipulation is not needed to 'entertain' observers) 2. They don't have the scientific background to understand the plain physics involved. As I said previously, anyone truly interested will find a good teacher and the others will always deny what they cant understand - so be it. That is fact.

Please explain why someone being televised by CNN is in any sense fraudulent. Are you saying that CNN which produced the video documentary some years back is not reputable? Master Shi Ming could be observed freely and regularly in Purple Bamboo Park doing what you see here so what exactly is the fraud? There are very few masters like this

I have indeed worked with many tai ji masters, and why I can say this is completely different these attacks are cooperative, he isnt being resisted. hence, fraudulent claims.

I found the contact ones "unbelievable" too when I first saw demonstrations, but it is the epitome of Taiji and its secrets appear to be no more than training and understanding human physics. It is not 'projecting Qi' in the way we westerners take that statement to mean. The other level demonstrated is beyond regular Taijiquan and has its own character. Get used to reality everyone. Break free from the herd mentality and open your own eyes to the changing world around you. The Ancient Chinese Masters watched animals to learn how to cultivate their physical power, and a few like Master Shi (Shr) have persisted to even higher levels. This is a physical SKILL of intercepting and repelling physical force. Forget about Qi. Qi is for healing. He is demonstrating Jin / POWER. NOT "projecting his energy". Energy is used for Power. @tajicentre I would advise you to come out of your fantasy land and make a sincere and practical approach to understanding martial arts. The comfort of living in one's own fantasy land (an no doubt misleading/misguiding others) is far easier than to take the time and nake a genuine effort to learn true Wu Shu skill.

@Britishfever456 Taiji might be classified as Wushu for sport competitions but it is vastly different in its intent and training and for anyone wishing to develop "Traditional" Taiji skills they cannot also cultivate Wushu skills. Wushu practice prevents the body learning to respond to force the Taiji way, so they are mutually exclusive. CXW is not known as a "Wushu master" (even if he won Gold medals in Wushu competitions- he is "only" but none the less well- respected, Taijiquan master.

@tajicentre The fact that you don't know what Wu Shu means tells me perhaps you don't know much about Chinese Martial Arts.Wu Shu is the umbrella term for ALL Chinese martial arts,Taiji, Bagua, Baji, Pigua etc.You may have misundertood Wu Shu for 'modern wushu.'The fundamental forces employed in Wu Shu are the same. CXW may have used Chen frame of Taiji to build his martial skills.Yet others have used Baji or Tanglang. All trainings starts 'external' and moves to more refined 'internal' levels.

No Taiji practitioner would make such an absurd claim unless he could 'see' it was indeed fake and be able to state what gives it away. So please do......All you do is voice your belief that it is not possible but you give no basis for why not, not even your own credentials? Have you have ever seen or been thrown by a real master?? @tajicentre Some teachers no doubt have a high level of skill. Students, prepared to give what it takes, go to these teachers to acquire some of his skill. In sucking up to the teacher, they put up with this kind of nonsense. I would say I've trained with some very respected authorities in Taiji. Non of them do this nonsense. I've been thrown 10+ feet away with throws and have fallen hard with Shuai Jiao techniques. I am also fortunate to have learnt skills to throw my own students of 15+ years.

@tajicentre It would be wrong to start to describe TaijiQuan as some unique power. All Chinese Martial forms have Taiji (yinyang) at its root. The interaction of two opposite forces creates a dynamic third force. This is not unique to Taiji Quan. It's a natural phenomena. For example, sunlight energy + atmospheric gases = photosynthesis. Hsing I, Baji, Choy Li Fut, White Crane, etc, all have higher levels. Just because you don't know, you reduce one to hard and one to soft. Why the need?

@Britishfever456 Ok - beyond my knowledge there. My understanding s that there are few styles of the taijiquan tradition that create the effect of a repelling force. Do you say that ALL wushu styles have this characteristic- fajin - where opponents are bounced off.

@tajicentre The respectable styles have Fa Jin components. Clearly, the 'modern wushu' is similar to the Shaolin acrobatic school in that non of the training actually develops martial Gong because Li is trained wrongly. For example, summersaults and cartwheles develop gymnastic skills. Gymnastics won't save your live when being attacked. Conditioning? Perhaps. Martial Arts were developed to reach a high level of fighting/killing skill.

@tajicentre These public displays are nothing but a show of arrogance and attitude, exploiting students or disciples for the teachers own gains. The issue is worse with 'sworn in' disciples who are told they are being shown the secrets of their arts and that they must not show someone else until they are 'sworn in' too.

@tajicentre Has a bit more skill - at least Peter is making some rooted contact. But would be wrong to assume that Peter achieved greater skill than his teacher, the respected Hong Jun Sheng. Although Hong was known as very powerful, we didn't see anything of the like from him like we see in this video.

@tajicentre Another example of a good Taiji master, who had genuine skill was Huang Sheng Sian of Malaysia. Watch the real videos of him fighting a wrestler. When it came to his own students, they all became like putty, just to elevate the status and skill of their teacher. Some actually believe the distant 'qi control' to be true! These actions are not befitting of otherwise, respectable teachers.

However my understanding is that it is so as a matter of culture / politics. It is not because of similar characteristics of those traditional arts either in their training or use in defense. @tajicentre When we're corrected on our stances, postures and breathing and told to do it 'like this', this forms our external training. When we are good enough to combine form practise with tui shou methods and have a good understaning of Chan Si Jing, we are able to repel our opponents 10+ feet away. This is the internal level understanding built on years of what appeared external training. Hope this makes sense.

But this is not what is meant by hard styles of wushu arts which train "brute strength" that is not the path of the internal styles- and to what I referred to previously. @tajicentre All respectable styles train strength but not at a cost of compromising internal body dynamics/mechanics. The degree of understanding and applicationof one's chosen art determines whether its been internalised or not. The difference between the beginner and advanced student is one who utilises the correct forces the right way. The higher levels of all forms of Wu Shu is internal. All beginner levels start on external movements to discover flow, root, economy of power transfer etc

@Britishfever456 Master CXW is amazing (I have attended workshops from him!) - BUT others have demonstrated higher skill. Master Shi is not taking the"micky" out of the Taijiquan tradition or of any living teacher - he is inspiring them to higher skills. Just because one cannot conceive of it yet does not mean it is not possible. Einstein said of his famous equation that it was "not possible", but its very existence enabled the most damaging weapon to be unleashed in human history.

@dekal1 Yes that's right. Oppponent flys back in relationship to the amount of the power of their attack, which is then rebounded invisibly back at the opponent. If you just stood there the master would have to make a forward movement (ie stepped in towards the opponent) to augment his power, to forcefully cause the opponent to 'fly back'. Flying back helps the opponent dissipate some of the force, otherwise it would impact as if being hit with a iron bar. Masters do not aim to kill in demos!

I'm sure there were some 'masters' back in the days that were smart enough to profit off the stupidity of people back then. There was no youtube or google for them to know about things. It was all word of mouth and taught in schools and books. The legends of Chi and Chi Gong surely benefited some bad people.
