  • I saw the guys play support for Thompson Twins in 1986. I'll never forget it. What a brilliant combo.

  • I thought this was a pro vegetarian song ? Shout ' ANTI LIVER '...meat is murder ....unless those snags at the barbie are good ones

  • This one's a goodun

  • where does time go ? I suppose some of the band are pushing 60 now :-/ and NZOZ1981 in an earlier post you say dont take them too literally , well maybe not but songs like these WERE my youth and meant so much to me and many others. Great memories of a great era for music. Thanks for posting....

  • @montbrehain no worries....

  • @montbrehain It was a bit of an anthem back then wasnt it? Your not alone with your sentiments on this band. There is a bitter sweetness to this song that underscored the year of record youth unemployment in this country. I remenber hearing two lecturers at Sydney uni having a fight about how the government had doctored the youth unemployment level of 81-82 to hide the real figures. Times were gloomy..enough to rot your Docs or blunt your winkle pickers.

They were the days when uni was real

  • I remember the promo picture on the back of the compilation Hitwave '81 for this song. They were all lying side by sides on graves. As ridiculous as it sounds, it scared me as a kid lol.

  • @AussieRoadshow ha ha, i think i know the one you're speaking about... this is the period when the Reels got a little bit 'commercially interested'.

  • @AussieRoadshow that same pic was on '81 hits compilation

  • these guys look so fucking intense. They sound like they really have something important to say. It might make my life better! I'm listening! You guys rock! Thanks for changing my life and way of thinking!

  • @jsunac1 Don't take the Reels too literally... they've admitted that some of the lyrics on their albums were meaningless hum drum....

  • @nzoz1981 Well of course they were but have you heard some of the drivel that was written in the eighties? It makes the sixties sound profound and meaningful.

  • @zapkvr

'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' is a great example of eighties observation.

  • @jsunac1

Funny yes they were a polarising band then, lots loved them and many didn't! Should have been huge, I have always thought, glad you "get" them

  • aussie video clips were very ordinary in the *80's, great song but hate the miming

  • tabbycat9 I'm guessing you've heard split enz and crowded house if not then you must. The one I would like you to hear is counting the beat from the Swingers, a classic one hit wonder from NZ.

The boss caught me doing air guitar to this in the early 80's

  • How can I buy this?? So cool!!!!!!

  • @messiahofdesire This great song is available on the Reels greatest hots album.

  • Thank you so much for putting up this music! I've discovered a lot of great bands from Australia and New Zealandthat I've grown to love. I'm probably the only person in the U.S. that loves this music.

  • no worries.. i'm glad you've found some value in my channels. I much appreciate it. :)

I figured there was hardly any point keeping all these videos to myself and letting them rot.

  • No problem, you have one of the best channels on youtube. By the way do you know anywhere I could find some of these bands music at? I would love to put some of these songs on my mp3 player, thanks.

  • You can try your luck at limewire and other programs that allow you to download music. If not them, you can import the CD's (or buy them on vinyl at second hand record stores - most of them had some considerable US release at the time they were new). Best bet is to try limewire.

  • Thanks, I will try limewire. I've been lucky to find a couple of Models songs on there. Thanks again for the suggestion and great music.

  • Oh no I listen to this and a lot of others, like Hunters & Collectors. My Aussie friend got me hooked on this stuff.

  • there record company fucked em over

  • true dat brotha

  • A sound of their time. Wonderful haunting synth lines. Love 'em

  • One of the true great Aussie mainstream new wave classics- timeless! Dave Mason you're a legend man -I'm sorry you had to put with Maynard F Crabbes phoning you up every morning when he was doing breakfast on Triple J back in the day.

  • What ever happened to great Aussie talent like these guy's, todays tracks are SHIT, back then it was BLOODY BRILLIANT.

  • I don't love you had a fantastic single take video. can't wait till it goes up.

  • can anyone put up "it must be love"..I know there was no film clip but maybe some clever pc person can create one??

  • I think I have a video of them doing it live.

  • you have live stuff!!??!!please can you put it up for us REELS fanatics, and whatever else by them that you may have..I know that there are no more official song clips...."I don't love you anymore" didn't have one as far as I know..and neither did "number 3" remember that great single?

  • It's been a long time since I've heard 'Number 3'. There is a video for 'I Don't Love You Anymore' and I have it and will upload it on my nzoz1990s account.

  • I didn't know that "I don't love you anymore" had a clip....

  • Are They Kiwi's.

  • Australian..

  • Thankyou matey! I was always told they were New Zealanders.

  • I love this song -the clean tones from the synth repeated thru the song are hypnotic, great harmonies, and they were great live too.

  • Brilliant , am i right in thinking that some of the Reels came from Dubbo NSW. Mate this is music I grew up to. Love it. thanks Dave and the rest MS

  • Just awesome.....

  • Their "beautiful" album was awesome!

  • i love this song

  • i like it this song

  • anyone remember the "big band" arrangement version?

  • back in those days the dress sense was very progressive, and Dave's haircut in the Prefab Heart clip was very radical for 1980

  • so right!!! - definitely radical enough that everytime you went out the door you had to contemplate actually getting bashed for it by bogans. thesedays bogan kids wear mohawks & peroxide & whatever & no-one even notices... sheesh, (sinks back into grandpa chair,,,)

  • @marcusbondi I Know!!!!

  • What does Karen look like now ??

  • Another Reels classic, Prefab Heart is still my favourite though.
