I've been watching Brideshead Revisited on tele, and thinking about this whole era, and this is a perfect embodiment of the connection of that nostalgia and Post-Punk creativity!
agreed. I'm from Toronto and will forever remember The Skids from 1982 and then BC. Stuart struck me. I'm older now of course and still listen to 'Close Action' and 'Charles'.
Yeah, interesting comment about the golden brown video, seen them both a million times and never made that connection, good point. Only down side of that video to me is that its a shame we dont get to see stuart adamson playing the guitar enough, its essentially a really good guitar song to me, great vid all the same,
fantastic band, their debut album"scared to dance" is a masterpiece, saw this song on multi coloured swap shop i think it was, check out the title track from the album, you can easily get a compilation of their hits from most music stores
I too really liked The Skids but have no clue what is being sung about, apart from 'charade', I don't understand one single word. Don't matter though.
To be fair, bands still take the p out of themselves (travis covering Britney Spears etc). I could almost see Jobson smoking like Noel Coward in the video.
I'm with you there, Stuart stopped playing for BC when people were fighting and went to talk to them and then went back on stage and acted as if nothing had happened - who does that nowadays eh?
Memories!

The guitar has attitude. A cross between Bill Nelson and Steve Jones, love it.

loving stuart on the violin :P
he's actually pulling it off pretty well - i've seen people in big budget feature films do a crappier job

that's sooo true!
and we have bunches of mainstream bands putting out videos where they pretend to play their own songs with their own instrument and fail. sad.

Kind of cool, but very eighties, and slightly camp too!
BobMonkfish 4 years ago
Yeah but thats because music was fun back then and bands could take the piss out of themselves, now their all serious - and talentless
