@neosoc Well Cristal is only a vintage champagne....the champagne house is Louis Roederer, so you can get a non vintage bottle of Louis Roederer from California for $18-$30.

good video, however having drank a bottle of 2002 i can safely say it's not worth it. it is certainly a nice champagne, but there are many other good champagnes such as a loius rouderer vintage, same house, not as old but just as tasty, and also dom p which does cost a good bit more but most uk supermarkets sell it for between £89-110 compared to cristals £185 price tag! again thou, worth trying so you can say you've tried it if you're that kind of person!

well guys im from france and I know loads about wine and champagne, I know for a fact that crystal was at first a good champagne but the company spends a lot of money for the marketing (the pretty bottle, and to be always on top of the list in the clubs) which made crystal a very popular drink for people that like to show their money, because all the money they spend on the marketing they can't spend it on the quality, Dom perignon is already something more serious and worth it, and Krug . . . .

You kind of look like an unrefined working-class man (which I do NOT categorize as a lower class of human at all!), so you probably have yet to taste it, but my favorite is the Krug Vintage -77 (cost: well over 8000 euros a bottle) , but Cristal is fine to serve when lower-class people come to visit you.

I've been drinking Cristal since the 95 vintage, and I must say that it is just about the best sparkling wine on the market, there are some that come close for a bit less money (La Grande Damme, Perrier Jouet flower bottle), but all in all, Cristal is, indeed, the top of the mountain...

I spoke with a rep from Roederer who was part of the original interview that caused the problem. The director's son was asked what he thought of Cristal being poured over the backsides of women in rap videos. He replied that he thought it was unfortunate that his family's hard work was used that way instead of being drunk. The reporter paraphrased (not even directly quoted) and wrote that the director's son didn't appreciate the rap culture buying his wine. That's the official story.

Sure it does cost a lot to make, store, package, age, and distribute. But their are also several domestic sparkling wine producers that do ALL the same things that it takes to make Cristal. Just one example is Argyle Winery that makes several wines that age at least 6 years and even one that ages 10 years! So considering the fact that they do it all the same and charge only 50 bucks for their 10 year aged sparkling (Extended Tirage) it's crazy to pay 200 for Cristal.

Agreed that many wineries make similar effots. Argyle makes some outstanding sparkling wine, but the simple fact that their land is so much less expensive has a major impact on price - although of course the name "Cristal" gets a premium but that comes from a history of excellent quality that they still maintain. Not saying it's worth 4 bottles to 1 Cristal necessarily. That's up to your own tastes!
