The only reason Avatar isn't considered anime is because it was made in America. I consider it anime due to it's chinese background, even though anime is JAPANESE. And also, you can see that it has anime-like features. But it IS made in America, which doesn't make it an anime. :D

its animated in korea, and many of the elements on the show are based on chinese culture
the bending is based on 4 different styles of chinese martial arts.
and the fact that its not called japanese animation.
But occasionly of course anime is a cartoon that came from japan. But anime is animation isn't it. And everyone calls avatar an anime. Just because it wasnt made in japan doesnt mean its not anime.

it does have anime-like features, but it is NOT classified as ANIME. if it was, then there'd be a Japanese version of Avatar.
and also, it's not owned by Japanese, but Viacom Inc., but with the help of Korean animators.
