um no hatin and all but bruce is singin this song too fast i feel he spoiled this song as this song should be sang slowly with a great deep vocal that send chills down your bones and makes you cry at the same time..

I remember when i left my parents house to live on my own, i often played this song from the 1975-1985 albums when I was feeling lonesome. I missed my old live but at the same time I was curious for my new live. This song for me is full of melancholy and promisses. How does he do it? How can he sing about all my fears, feelings, hope and joy without knowing me?
@RobSchoentjes my sentimet exactly...perfectly captured. Funny thing is that now in my mid forties I return here every time I need to rebalance...this nusic so represents my "core". amazing isn't it
@iamdanbones I'm 50 settled with wife and kids. I never had a fast car, I was into fast bikes. But this still applies and I miss that life more than I can say.
The first verse has rung out in my head since I first heard this song. I was born in 71 and got into Springsteen music in 1980 when I first started to hear him on the radio. I live in Melbourne Australia and he has been with me ever since. An awesome performer. A living legend.
Something that has bugged me since I first listened to this on vinyl - 396 was a big block, "Fuelie" heads were for a small block. There, that felt good to get that off my chest.
@engine22emt Its funny, I'm building a 66 Fairlane Hardtop with a blown 408 Windsor, Powerglide, mini tubbs, Autodrag Centerlines....... and when I had to buy a shifter, I made I bought a Hurst because of this song.
The best singer .song writer of our time !!!!!!!!

La versione pi bella mai sentita di questa canzone il piano ne incarna lo spirito di disillusione e volontà di rivalsa.....

The final verse about the protagonist's girlfriend just kills me. I get a little misty in the eyes every time. Absolutely beautiful.

I remember listening to this tune on a an LP while doing weekly chores growing up. I'd blast it , over and over. One of the finest songs by the Boss.
