  • And history has not vindicated that way of thinking. The politics of fear were always around, but the politics of fear the "big government" began in 1964. Landslide, crushing loss. Though I must admit, he was the real deal, not a phony who put on postures to get votes. At least in that he can be admired.

  • That old Fuck Headed Swiss of Wastap bag o' crap! He sure sponged off the Government most of his life! He, like many of these lifetime politicians, bite the hand that feeds them>>so hypocritical on so many levels. Everyone's for SMALL GOVERNMENT FOR THOSE OTHER PEOPLE!

  • @univibe23 What other people? Taxation is progressive and he fell in the upper bracket, so I am pretty sure he paid for those OTHER PEOPLE.

  • Barry Goldwater was a true Conservative Republican who was anti Big Government. He didn't like socialist Big Government or authoritarian Big Government with limited Social Freedom. He believed people should be able to live their own lives, as long as they weren't hurting innocent people with their freedom.

  • What I respect about Barry Goldwater as a liberal was that he was the real thing. He was against all forms of Big Government not just the socialist version. Unlike Theocratic Conservatives and Neo Conservatives.

  • Government has his hand in some kids pocket? Isn't that illegal?

  • @HVACSoldier Not if you work for the TSA!

  • @orgasmicide2 Thanks for the info. But how did it get this systerm get the name Bretton Woods?

  • @orgasmicide2 Pardon my ignorance but what is the Bretton Woods system.

  • Did the Vietnam War help cause inflation?

  • @orgasmicide2 Carter was a very weak-willed president; well meaning but weak willed. Thank God for Ronald Reagan.

  • Goldwater proposed his sollution to end the Vietnam War, "either win it or get out." We should've chose the latter.

  • Barry Goldwater was in reality of Polish-Jewish ancestry and the son of immigrants. Some say the reason for his failure to win the 64 election was because of his JEwish origins.

  • No, the people voted for Lyndon Johnson, one of the most despicable, tragic and catastrophic figures in American history.

  • Goldwater was on the right track, but the truth is far more grim. The vast majority of inflation is through our banking system. So, when you think the gov't is taking half your wages, no...just half of what the bankers didn't take already. During Reagan's presidency, the dollar was devalued by 90%. Question: did your wages increase by 1000% to offset that? I doubt it. Libertarians can't be bought out, and we are all addicted to money. Fiscal conservatism is extinct.

  • @jasondmcneill Jimmy Carter tried to stop inflation in the late 1970s or at least curb it but couldn't.

  • BULLSHIT......

  • It's true. Taxes destroy the creation of wealth and deincentivize success creating a socialist economy with lazy unionized workers who smoke on their lunchbreak on video.

  • In my heart, I knew he was right, it's a shame we don't have more Conservatives like him these days. Those who dare speak the Libertarian words of Goldwater are laughed at and ridiculed for being "Racist" or "Hating the Poor".

  • The 1960s spending eventually destroyed the monetary system and started the financial casino era.

  • We want Barry! Not Barry Obama, tho.

  • Barry Goldwater is the man! Milton Friedman, Thomas Sewell, Peter Schiff, Ronald Reagan. These are some of the greatest men this country has ever produced

  • @SuperGuitarman69 I'd make a few modifications to that list. Replace Milton Friedman (phony libertarian) with Murray Rothbard (actual libertarian). Replace Ronald Reagan (big gov't advocate) with Ron Paul (limited gov't advocate). Replace Thomas Sowell with Walter Block. Finally, replace Barry Goldwater (warmonger) with Howard Buffett.

  • join me in helping restore the individual freedoms we once had to fuck over the little guy.

  • @jbond5150 Sorry to burst your bubble, but the little guy is still an individual.

  • 1938dmkdz

Although I am more of a liberal I can

see this man in 2010 working in the senate, this man had class....

  • @1938dmkdz is that what you call someone who votes against the civil rights and voting rights acts: classy? because thats what he did. and when he ran for president in 1964 he won only 5 states outside of his homestate of arizona. can you guess which ones? georgia, alabama, south carolina, mississippi, and louisiana - segregationist states.

  • @jbond5150 FDR interned thousands of japanese American citizens. im sure you like FDR.

  • A wonderful man. I wish he were alive and well today so we could elect him.

  • Wow, nice. No smear campaigns, no "join or we'll all be killed"--just pure policy.

  • @jesuslover037 That trick never works. If you want to get elected you have to paint your opponent as the Devil incarnate.

  • We need another Goldwater to keep our minds on REAL issues rather than the typical : Gay Marriage, Abortion, and so on that are used to piss off people so they lose focus on things that matter.

  • @adamamida absolutely!

  • @adamamida RON PAUL 2012!!!!!!!

  • @adamamida His name is Ron Paul!

  • @LibertyMike1 Every time he mentions the Fed Res, Bernanke dies a little inside.... I hope

  • What's the difference between, "choose to be ruled" verses "elect to be governed?" In the definition of "elect" is "choose;" one definition of 'governed" is "controlled." How about, "Chose to be controlled?"

  • I think the primary distinction is between RULED and GOVERNED. Ruled implies a controlling authority operating under a dynamic "law." Governed implies an authority bound by a static law.

  • I see that too. That was just the "thought bite" I got out at that time. It's just semantics, and trying to create fear of the other side.

  • There's a strong difference between "ruled" and governed". What he means by "ruled" is that the governmet takes away our choice and implements thier will instead of ours, whereas "governed" would mean to be organized and structured, yet given our freedom to live and choose how we may. He makes complete sense to me. That's the real conservative way - to have the people live in freedom while the government HELPS the people, not rules them. To have a government FOR the people.

  • Being governed is different than being controlled. Choosing to be controlled makes no reference to the act of electing delegates to represent your individual interests. That's the difference between Goldwater and so many neo-conservatives. Goldwater believed in the power of the individual, while neo-cons support government oversight, just as much as they claim the democrats do. That is also why many consider Goldwater's views to be libertarian, rather than latter-day republican.

  • It's amazing how current this is even if it was 45 years ago. Goldwater was yet another great man that was vilified by the liberal media.

If he had been president during Vietnam, imagine how much better things would have gone.

He might have scared the Viet Cong into submission without a single shot. (Yeah, I know probably not, but I think that things would have gone better for us anyhow).

  • yeah, LBJ did try to smear him as a nazi regardless of the fact the JFK's father actually supported the nazi party.

  • He is very conservative even if he felt prochoice

  • A lot of liberals point to Goldwater's pro-choice views to argue that he somehow "turned liberal" at the end of his life.

But I disagree. Although Goldwater may have been personally pro-choice, I don't think he would have supported Roe v. Wade on the grounds that it was a federal intrusion on states rights.

Regardless of his personal opinions, Goldwater was, above all, constitutionalist.

  • Goldwater was more of a libertarian than anything else.

  • "...make government the servant, not the master of us all. In this free nation, we do not choose to be ruled--we elect to be governed."

Can we just bring Goldwater back to life?

  • No way! Goldwater's greatest virtue was that the Federal Government had no rule in determining how individuals should live their life. I do not want the do-gooders telling me how to live my life. Haven't they done enough to erode our precious few freedoms?

  • Social conservatives are the ones tearing this country apart and Goldwater knew it.

  • @surfingthechaos What are social conservatives?

  • @67nairb

Social conservatives are those who argue against, abortion, gay marriage, stem cell research and produce laws that are faith based initiatives.

  • @67nairb People who want to use the government to enforce their own cultural beliefs.

  • @TinaCL It would be nice. He died in 1998.
