The Duo-Art system is present and active. It was restored some years ago by the previous owner. My MIDI system operates valves that are "teed" into the original tracker bar tubing. The valves open the tracker bar tubes, just like the holes in the paper. So, the original Duo-Art mechanism operates as designed, only by electronic signals, no rolls needed. I can also use rolls at any time, if I want to.
I played a 1925 Steinway Duo Art styled and finished exactly like this today at an estate sale. The piano was horribly out of tune, but the player played strong, and everything worked. The player might have been rebuilt as they usually don't play that well in orig condition from 1925, the piano itself was questionable. They were asking 18.000 Only one piano plays properly on youtube, for my taste, the Ampico by AmpicoGPM the others all seem to need adjusting. I like the mech system best
thank you so much for your reply, I thought my comment was too harsh, anyway I think you did overall an incredibly job, keep up the good work, I am a fan!

I'd like to know more about the MIDI system and how you built it.

Yes, my piano could probably use some adjustment.

do you know what is the price for a piano like this??
mariosary 2 years ago
The price is very dependant on condition, both of the piano and the player mechanism. Google for "Steinway XR" You can see a few non-current prices.
