  • I don't know what it is about this song, but whenever I hear the recorded version of this song (From O' Brother) it makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. (especially the 'To My Immortal Home' at the the end of the song)

  • The best version of this wonderful song!

  • I saw him play at Myrtle Beach on Thanksgiving of 2010

  • @TravellinMan94 dang im always at MB sept 24 week.... That would have been a true honor!

  • the joke ralph says is great!!!! LOVE U RALPH!!!!

  • love your music but lost respesct for you when back the obama

  • I grew up with some of Ralph Stanley's family in California and they would often bring me along to his performances. I feel very blessed to have seen this living legend and his amazing band perform live. I'm glad that "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" exposed a wider audience to his music. This is a lovely song.

  • Preciosa cancion. Las voces tambien excelentes

  • seeing them tonight

  • there will never be another ralph stanley him and doc watson are about the last of the pure old timey sound left

  • love bluegrass. going to see the man...ricky skaggs at watseka theatre watseka illinois on friday aug 26

  • this song is my mothers favorite song. shes gone now shes been gone for 15 years .now and she used sing this song to me and i havent heard this song since we put her to rest. we sang this song for her god bless you i know where your coming from

  • The old "High Lonesome" sound is sadly lost to us now. Stanley,Flatts and Roscoe Holcome were the last of their breed. I grew up in WV and still remember families who played these old songs together at pig roasts and the such, and can honestly say that propper grammar and enunciations have all but killed the old bluegrass sound.

  • i feel like i'm melting, what a voice

  • i don't know the words, but i know what they mean

  • Ralph may forget the words, but his voice seems to being holding up pretty well. This song is a message of comfort to all Christians.

  • tears everytime

    Ralph is a National treasure

  • magnifiquement country et cette chanson ces paroles whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Well 3 idiots have watched this video how can you dislike art such as this????

  • I could listen to him sing any song..love tht old time sound...

  • Is this from 1998?

  • I JUST LOVE THIS GOSSPIAL ART WORK

  • nice

  • I was just wondering if anybody knows if ralph the II is playing CARTER's martin box?

  • SPEECHLESS

  • Gives me chills every time. Love his humor at the beginning too. ♥ ♥ ♥

  • I was lucky enough to see Ralph n the boys in England last year. An incredible experience....almost religious....and I aint religious!!

  • love your songs, and hope to see you at church

  • Love this song.

  • I like his voice better now, as opposed to the early albums. But this guy voted for Obama, you'd think he'd a been smarter than that!

The bumper sticker on my truck says :DR RALPH STANLEY FOR PRESIDENT

and he'd a done a better job because he would have been HONEST as a God-fearin' man he is.

  • @pask54 i dont care much about politics and im not a usa citizen, but in my opinion it doesnt matter who he voted for, this song it's really nice and artists should be judged only by their art and not by their political party.

ps: i know a lot of "god-fearing" men who are not honest (they think they are, so they justify their acts)

  • Music and politics don't mix. The same can be said about musicians and politics.

  • Super,Super !

  • Amazing...

  • Amazing...

  • bless you ralph. i've just decided...i want this played at my funeral. maybe someone who is not saved there will get a picture of heavens gates.and i don't think ralph's description is far off..wow.you are awesome ralph...by the way. there are 3 more vs. to this song.google it and read them all.will bring you to tears..

  • You know, some of the most Blessed people on this earth give of themselves so freely and without regard to their age. Dr. Ralph Stanley is one of those very special people. As one of the previous posters commented he is the true meaning of the "Southern Gentleman"

  • the true sound of bluegrass, may he live forever. So much of bluegrass has been messed up with the new generation

  • @rebelrandle My father can raise up bluegrass musicians, of Ralph Stanley's ilk, from these here stones.

  • @spurnthemuse I spent my first 13 years in the hills in North Miss. where every week end Dad and a few more were playing on someones front porch, Miss those days, Miss Dad. Sure hope they don't mess up bluegrass any worse than they have Rebel

  • @spurnthemuse Amen to that

  • Mr. Stanley is a trooper.Bluegrass feeds my engine for metal!

  • dude I couldn't have said it better. Both forms of music, so different, can be equally intense. PEACE

  • @ delita60 ...amen to that

  • @delita60 i agree!

  • As an atheist, 2 Chronicles 15:12-13 brings me great comfort!

My strongest trials now are past, my triumph is begun

O come Angel Band, come & around me stand

O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

O bear my longing heart to Him who bled & died for me

Whose blood now cleanses from all sin & gives me victory

  • My Mom passed away yesterday morning while I was at her side. This song has been in my soul and on my mind for the past week. I wanted to sing it to her but my tears would not let me. God Bless You Mr. Ralph!

  • My prayers are with you, Moms are tough to lose, It's been 4 yrs. for me,and I think of her everyday !!!

  • i was there. :)

    i love his jokes.

he is such a great singer, and no one can even compare to his voice. i consider him the god of bluegrass.

  • Ralph Stanley sings Blue Grass the it should be sung. This is a great video to a great song.

  • poignant

  • Dr. Ralph Stanley is the man, hes a legend right up there with Hank Sr. they are in a league of there own.I was raised up on this music many nights i would sit and listen to my grand daddy and my uncles sit by the fire drinking beer playing songs like this until 3 in the mornin

  • When I was about 5 I remember the ole timers sitting around the front of my grandpa's old store whittling, and talking about everything from everyday things to politics and they had more good sense than most today. They were always so good to us children handing us pennies and nickles, and saying sweet things to us.If I could see them again,I'd tell them how much I missed them, as they walked away against the winds of time. You Ralph are one of the few still left.May God grant you many more yrs.

  • OMG,..I shed a tear reading your comment,..My younger years were the same,...What I would give to go back!!,...many blessings to you and your family!....

  • Bless your sweet ole heart...You are one of the few, that I will forever endear.

  • Thank you Ralph! I love you, and also the ones like you... from your generation. My grandma and pap will never be gone as long as you live!

  • I consider Ralph Stanley one of the old originals, as well as one of the best! I've heard my grandma sing this tune...she could sing and she did often. She sang so many old ballads I sadly cannot remember them all. Ralph Stanley is one of the few left who still can sing, as my grandma did/with the same heartfelt tone and pitch. It saddens me to know they are a dying breed.

  • this is the besy song ever. u know how to sing

  • One of my all time favorites. I remember singing this with my Uncle as a young girl. One of the first bluegrass songs I learned.

  • Amazing. I'm totally melted. This is going right into my gospel playlist.

  • Dr. Ralph Stanley is the godfather of Blue Grass music. I wish I could see him in concert. He is the best there is when it comes to Blue Grass.

  • Is this from 1998?

  • 2008

  • he's still got it, amazing man, simply amazing,

  • Sweet Jesus ! Thats good. Dr Stanley will never be replaced. Thank God that in recent years this man and his music have enjoyed a long overdue revival around the world. Stuff like this puts the dross into perspective. God Bless you Sir, you are a true Knight of the Musical Heavens.

  • "Puts the dross into perspective," you say?

  • very good song

  • This music reaches way down in ones soul and tugs on your heart strings. It moves me and there ain't no replacing it! We need a revival of good old spiritual songs. Thanks Ralph and guys!

  • This was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life.

  • I love this video , would love to get mandolin tab , if anyone out there has a copy , thanks for posting this video

  • God Bless All!

  • Still brilliant!!!

  • This song is AWESOME.

  • he sings it like it ought to be sung

  • Ralph Stanley was one of my dad's favorite...I can see him sitting on the front porch with his little radio listening to the Bluegrass Chanel after spending a day in the garden.....they played this at his funeral in Eastern KY a year ago, a lot of tears were shed.
