I think that's the greatness of Jaska, that he's quite simple in his style, he doesn't use bassdrums, fills or rolls excessively but he plays everything perfectly. He always varies, even in small details, that's why his playing is so entertaining. He just plays what's necessary and fits perfectly with the music, and i think that's what makes not only him, but CoB, to be very balanced.
Anyway, I don't mean that Hahto is boring, etc. I'm expressing my opinion about Raatikainen.
this clinic was so funny because Kai owned Jaska big time, HAHAH! Rokhollow: yeah I also like Lopez the new guy is ok, it's really a shame he had to leave.
I prefer jazz drummer actualy. cus there you get nearly everything! learn all accents, speed etc. And if you are a jazz drummer and wanna play metal. learn doubble base, open your hihat, hit a crash insteed of the ride and play a bit more stright beat. there you got a fuckin pro metal drummer! Look at joey jordison, he was thaought by a jazz drummer.
Not too excited. I was wondering why you thought I was making a comparison- and I decided to include my thoughts along with it. Do you have a preference? I personally prefer technique over raw power. I guess at the end of the day, jazz and metal drummers need technique to do what they do, so they can be compared. Your thoughts?
Of course, drumming is all about technique. I listen to both jazz and metal. They are just so different styles of music, that I just personally don't see any point in comparing them. For example I really don't believe that Dave Weckl could play double bass and blastbeats at the same extreme tempos as Derek Roddy or Kai Hahto and vice versa.
Derek wouldn't have the same feeling and groove to jazz music as Weckl, because they have practiced totally different things. If you are a jazz drummer, then you are a jazz drummer. You can't really be both jazz and extreme metal drummer. I have never ever seen a drummer that is very good on both styles. But this is just my opinion and this discussion could go on forever...
Yeah, point taken. I am a metalhead with a jazz drummer for a father, so I started listening to Buddy Rich and was blown away. Then I saw Weckl, Royster, Jojo Meyer etc- blown away again. It either spurs you on or makes you want to stop drumming altogether! I'm a big fan of Lopez (ex Opeth). Shame he left. I'll see ya Jez.
i'm a big fan of Jaska but i would have to say Kai is a better technical drummer

If you like these guys- check out Dave Weckl and Tony Royster jr. Phenomenal.

I don't see the point of comparing metal drummers to jazz drummers.
jez12 4 years ago
Why's that? You actually think metal drummers are better?
Rokhollow 4 years ago
By the way- I was merely giving these listeners some more drummers to check out.

I never said that. The point is that jazz and metal drummers can't be compared. No need to get excited here.
