its crazy how many people sing the beatles songs... this only proves how loved they were... and respected. Bon jovi's singin it, bill clinton, madonna, holy crappp
SPONGEBOBnyy ... you are actually incorrect. Hugh (the base guitarist) was brought in to replace Alec John Such who was "let go" somewhere between Keep the Faith and New Jersey. what the hell with all the arguments-the band is the band and there can only be one leader-like managing wise. It wouldnt be the same without ANY of the members-they are a unit and they are a close one. God the arguments that start on youtube.
You are right.Jon and Richie friends .They appreciate each other.
In that situation with alcohol, Jon said Richie: "You break my heart. " Richie heard him and managed to climb out. John said that the album Circle is dedicated Richie. They are perfect. Real fans not share them.
these guys belong in the Hall of Fame, how come the UK Hall inducted them already and we haven't? it's a shame! BON JOVI rule! They're awesome, and their music will endure for generations to come, despite what people that know nothing about the band claim. Just go to one of their concerts before you write bs about them
@LiveLifeEveryday After their first 2 albums weren't spectacular successed they were on teh verge of being dropped by their label and that's when they came up with the "brilliant" idea of writing with Desmond Child......Yes....the same guy who came up with hits for wait for it Menudo AND Ricky Martin (Fantastic).....Combine candy floss sugary Pop with shredding guitars , big hair and Spandex and you have BONJOVI....the move paid dividends and Slippery when Wet was a MASSIVE HIT!!!!
@LiveLifeEveryday If u get a break in the industry fine , if u make it big even better BUT that doesn't mean u have to sell ur soul to the devil to make it or appeal to the lowest common denominator.....I guess they were slaves to their time....the early to mid 80's when it was sink or swim...but there were still good bands at that time that didn't sell themselves and did write songs with a conscience ie U2 , REM , The Smiths , The Clash etc....
@LiveLifeEveryday Yes, the way they run the band does make them different. Other bands have people that are actually in the band and not contracted players. It not only makes them different, but how the royalties get divided up as well.
@LiveLifeEveryday Yes, the way they run the band does make them different. Other bands have people that are actually in the band and not contracted players. It not only makes them different, but how the royalties get divided up as well.
Losing Richie will hurt Bon Jovi for this reason....Touring. The bands new music has not been relevant for years so if Richie were gone I don't think it could get any worse then it is now with the bands latest record the sales disaster it is. What will hurt Bon Jovi is Richie not playing the older songs on stage with the band, I agree that live the older stuff won't be the same without R
Assuming you believe Jon actually told Richie he can find a new job if he doesn't knock his tabloid stuff off (who can believe the newspaper, etc??) Jon is not going to mess with what works. Richie is an integral part of the band, the four guys. Even Hugh McDonald isn't official as a band member for publicity purposes etc. The four guys work, and if one of them was different it would not be Bon Jovi. Jon knows that, and I don't believe he would ditch Richie as a friend or colleague.
Funny thing about newspapers, magazines etc, they print what they think will sell most of their product, so the headlines will quite often have a vague suggestion of truth only, just enough to get people to buy and read more, but no base to the big print that got reader's attention in the first place...I am always wary when they report ' a friend said......' Like David Bryan said 'the only way out of this band is death'. I actually heard him say it in interview on their plane. Bon Jovi 4ever!
haha, Jon can say what he wants, but if he fired Richie, there'd be no Bon Jovi. Full stop. They wouldn't find a guitarist anywhere near as good, and if they did, i don't think many people would embrace it. yeah Jon runs the band, he calls the shots, but in no way is he THE band, i highly doubt that Bon Jovi without Richie would be called Bon Jovi by the fans
Sorry, I am a huge Bon Jovi fan, however, as far as guitarists go Richie is FAR from being one of the best. I wouldn't even put him in the top 10 and replacing him would be a cinch.
yeah, but i mean as good for the band, sorry, shoulda been clearer. like with his exact style. cos his style compliments the band's style. and what they did with john such, if they did that with richie, i dunno if it'd go as smoothly
i no tht jon made the band "bon jovi" b4 they got big.....but he was the guitarist up untill they got big...and i think he was just a big jerk to everyone and was on lots-o-drugs! lol so they let him go and soon after Richie hooped in and the band took off!
@milzy1345 Yes this is true. I don't think Richie does as well without Jon, just as Jon doesn't do as well without Richie... The point is, whether they realise it or not (I hope they do) they are brothers and they depend on each other.
@milzy1345 I agree. To be honest, although Jon is a great front man, Richie is the one who the real fans like. When I say real fans, I mean the ones who understand that the Jovi isn't the most musically accomplished band, and like and appreciate them for what they are. I will defend them to the end, but I recognise there is an element of cheese. One of the key factors in that is that Richie Sambora is a fantastic guitarist, regardless of what lyrics accompany his riffs.
@DancinJim I've been a Bon Jovi fan since 1985, 7800 F-days. Real fans??? Are the ones that have stood by the BAND, not just one person. Musically accoplished??? Let me say that greatest songs in Rock'n'Roll history are Very simple riffs. And there is not many bands to perform those simple songs better nowadays than BJ. Wheater their own of some other legend, they always nail it!!
@Elicotteri No, that's not correct. When I say real fans, I mean the ones who don't just follow the band out of blind obsession (and let's face it, there's a lot of people who like Jon for his looks, not his music) Real fans actually appreciate the skill of Richie's guitarmanship. So you kind of proved my point by saying "greatest songs in Rock'n'Roll history are Very simple riffs." as it is Richie who plays the riffs, not Jon.
@DancinJim what are you saying about me then, i think jon was absolutly gorgeous when he was younger, and still is, and his music is just so increadible it blows me away! thats kinda 'blind obsession' as you say and his music...you know there are some people that are interested in both
@1995Sian I'm not saying anything about you. I was making a general statement. I still believe that a lot of people (women especially) would have liked whatever songs he made, because they fell in love with his image. As a straight male, I look at the band from a music-only standpoint, and from that I have always admired Richie Sambora above anyone else in the band, because he has proven that he can not only play great guitar, but he also has an amazing voice. I want another solo album from him.
@milzy1345 Heh, and u had to come "this far" to tell that to Jon. Where has Jon underestimated Richie's influence in the band? I don't think he will ever do it, because there's no reason for it. He knows how important Richie is for the band and also for him personally. They are friends, not competitors. Your comment is rediculous.
@Elicotteri i was replying to a comment talking about how Jon told Richie that if he didn't stop all his "tabloid stuff", whatever that is, then he can find a new job. and i don't doubt he'd do it either. cos even though they're friends, it'd be like any other business. if one person is giving the business a bad name (the "tabloid stuff"), then they get fired, whether they were the boss's friend or not. that being said, Bon Jovi without Richie isn't Bon Jovi in my books.
@milzy1345 i agree, the band needs both jon and richie...jon and richie write the music...without richie, the lyrics would be nowhere near as good, kinda like lennon/mccartney. and sure, jon can play guitar too, but there is no way the music would be any good with out richie. with out richie's guitar, the music is just empty...and i agree that the fans wouldn't call them bon jovi without richie...just the same as the beatles arent the beatles with out john paull george AND ringo
@milzy1345 I thought tah same bout Guns n Roses and Slash... People may say whatever they want but I think there is not GnR without Slash anymore. And so it would be with Bon Jovi and Richie... You´re absolutely right..
@milzy1345 they need each other. but that's beside the point anyway. you have to think about what would have happened to Richie if he wouldn't have been in Bon Jovi! what if instead of BJ he'd joined Kiss back in 83? maybe his life would have been different and he wouldn't have had any problems at all. but the problem he had, in another band? he wouldn't be alive anymore....he needed the support from all of them (J, D, T, H and maybe even B) to get back to being a great guitarist.
@aKiZoT True, but I disagree with the last statement, Bon Jovi didn't make Richie a great guitarist, but they definitely help him with life and stuff.
@milzy1345 that's good cause I never said they made him a great guitarist. I said that they helped him get back to being a great guitarist after he had some problems and broke his shoulder. quite a few bands would have just kicked him out or kicked him out for the tour only, but they just got Bobby as a back-up and Richie could go on tour although his shoulder clearly wasn't okay yet and he still had a plethora of other problems too.

I know exactly where Mr BonGiovi & his bandmates r from & the contacts they used to become rich & famous. I'm not saying the guy can't sing or that they can't play. They r Corporate Rockers that make slick overproduced bombastic fairy floss Stadium Rock for the masses. Jon's uncle , a famous muso & studio owner , gave him his start in the business & got him all the contacts he needed , the rest of the guys r session muso's that worked at the studio. It was a manufactured project that took off.
you know everyone get their chances if e had one uncle well lucky him. I remember the beatles also made big concerts and they were like pop stars those days some people hated them some like them. it just good music both are great and this song inspired a lot of musicians and ppl
The major difference is that The Beatles were an organic band that got together naturally through friendships and aquaintances whereas Bon Jovi are a "manufactured" band that basically were always in it solely for the money. Artistic integrity , creativity and/or meaningful songs with any social , poetic or political message was out the window. Only corporate greed was left.
NO NO NO!!!!!! damn! wat u mother fuckers hear from ur friends means nothing! OK! Jon, and David Bryan were friends who started playin un local bars! Richie went to go c them and he joined right before the making of Bon Jovi...same time they got tico! THEY ALL HAVE SO MUCH MONEY THERE CHILDRENS CHILDRENS WONT NO WAT TO DO WITH IT! they continue making awesome music for the love! and its always been that wat!! GET UR FACTS STRAIT!
ur a retard! it wasnt a buisness! he made his song Runaway and sent it to a radio station which played the song! the people of Jersey loved it and wanted to here more! a record company heard them and offered them a deal! And so...1 year later his first album named Runaway came up hitting #7 in the charts!
@LiveLifeEveryday i agree! this isnt one of his greatest covers, but its still awesome just cause iits bon jovi and his hair is still rockin! theselector: This one of the only rock bands that have been clean and are still together and spitin out records after 26 years of hard/ good rockin!
U FUCKIN DIPSHIT!!!! BON JOVI is a band! Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi made the band in jons living room! U NO NOTHING OF BON JOVI!!!!!!!!!! the only people who arent actually in the band is a rythem guitarist and the violin chick!!
Jersey? Runaway wasn't played in Jersey but was broke out by a station on Long Island! Lorenza Ponce and Bobby Bandiera are hired hands just like the rest of the musicians, Lorenza was hired just for the last tour but still does some corporate gigs when called upon. Bobby had his own career in NJ before John hired him to tour with them. But I don'tb know what I'm talking about?
ok.....but bon jovi's a band! Jon Bon Jovi- Lead Vocals....Richie Sambora-Guitar and Backing Vocals...David Bryan- Pianist.....Tico Torres- drums.....Hugh McDonald- Bass! non of them are hired musicians! the rythem guitarist and the chick with the violin are....but those 5 make up the greatest rock band in history!
Think what you want. I know what the deal is. Jon even told Richie if he doesn't knock his tabloid stuff off, he can find a new job. Jon employs them. Hugh for a while, before he was hired to tour as well, was their studio bassist.
ok...i will! read his biography.....it shows all! and wat tabloid stuff??? richie had a drinking problem back in the late 80's early 90's! that was it!
yeah but he had a dui like a couple yrs ago cuz he was dealing with all that crap with heather, his dad dying, and thten brreaking his arm, and i'm sure that there was some other things that happened that we dont know about
yea...but he was in there for alchol....he never really got hooked on drugs...i think...it was mostly girls and alchol....wait...i get the girls thing. lol but at least 4 now he has his shit together and there on there biggest tour rite now and there awesome!...wait...there always awesome!
Sorry but the band was formed when Jon recorded Runaway and gave it to the DJ then Richies ex band members told Richie to havva go at it, so he did and they all lived happily ever after :)
haha they hes only been "hired" 4 28 years with the band! some people on here r stupid ass wipes...JJNZ...im not talkin bout u...the other people! lol BON JOVI FOREVER!
I mean, come on... Sambora is part of the creative force of this band, hired? i dont think so.
About Them being corporate rockers, well, if a band its in the business for as long as they have been, they have to become a corporation, if not, they would be hustled out by record company sharks and loose control of the whole thing.
Ask the Stone or Aerosmith if they consider themselves corporate rockers... what would be the answer? they also play stadium and arena shows, the beginings of all great bands are different, the results get to be the same most of the time.
@JJNZ (see previous post).......Most of these bands existed in the 80's and wore spandex , wore highlights in their BIG Hair and makeup.....eg Poison , WhiteSnake , Ratt , BonJovi etc... etc... There's ur answer to what a Corporate Rocker is.....someone who thinks of Corporate money and success BEFORE the music.
@theselector LOL ridiculous. Bon Jovi has outlasted and outperformed all other "hair" bands from the 80's. Not only that, but Jovi is the only band to successfully cross over from one genre to another (rock to country) and still be at the top of the charts. If creating music they love, which also happens to be commercially successful, makes them rich with "corporate" money, then so be it. But let me guess, you are a liberal and you hate success at any level, right?
@mythicc You've taken my comment out of context. My reference to "Hair Bands" & "Corporate Rock" was answering someone's post on these 2 aspects of Bon Jovi. And in regards to your other comments you've obviously not read my other posts. In any case I've already said everything I could about this band and there's no point in saying any more. Have a nice day.
haha yepp....and im sure tht most of the money that they make now...at least 4 Jon and Richie most of it goes to charity or more guitars for richie! lol
and ur rite. it is a buisness but there so big tht just there name makes them big! and just for the record i just got back from the bon jovi concert in vegas! AWESOME!!
@JJNZ Corporate Rock is a term used to describe a genre or group of bands that play a certain style of music which is usually big , bombastic , slickly overproduced and tailor made to appeal to a mass audience.....the subject matter used in songs is usually chicks , cars , money , the self (how rich , beautiful and great they r) , having a good time and simple things like that that aren't to hard on the old grey matter.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Sorry BUT it's just a bit too hard to accept these American Corporate Rock Hair bands doing an earnest version of this great Classic.....Wearing Spandex , Make-up and teasing ur hair like a girl ain't very Rock 'n' Roll. The Beatles killed off manufactured PopStars like Frankie Avalon , Bobby Rydell & Fabian and it's from this long line of Corporate manufactured lowest common denominator get rich quick wannabes that Spawned BonJovi.
Richie is so good at harmonizing...

Richie sings better than Jon, Jon Bon Jovi if he gave permission to sing Richie, Jon would have had to sing alone in another band.
Richie canta mejor que Jon, si Jon lo hubiera dejado cantar a Richie, Jon hubiera tenido que cantar solo en otra banda.

Just go to one of their concerts before you write bs about them
griwilout 1 year ago 2
@LiveLifeEveryday After their first 2 albums weren't spectacular successed they were on teh verge of being dropped by their label and that's when they came up with the "brilliant" idea of writing with Desmond Child......Yes....the same guy who came up with hits for wait for it Menudo AND Ricky Martin (Fantastic).....Combine candy floss sugary Pop with shredding guitars , big hair and Spandex and you have BONJOVI....the move paid dividends and Slippery when Wet was a MASSIVE HIT!!!!
theselector 1 year ago
@LiveLifeEveryday If u get a break in the industry fine , if u make it big even better BUT that doesn't mean u have to sell ur soul to the devil to make it or appeal to the lowest common denominator.....I guess they were slaves to their time....the early to mid 80's when it was sink or swim...but there were still good bands at that time that didn't sell themselves and did write songs with a conscience ie U2 , REM , The Smiths , The Clash etc....
theselector 1 year ago
@LiveLifeEveryday Yes, the way they run the band does make them different. Other bands have people that are actually in the band and not contracted players. It not only makes them different, but how the royalties get divided up as well.

Losing Richie will hurt Bon Jovi for this reason....Touring. The bands new music has not been relevant for years so if Richie were gone I don't think it could get any worse then it is now with the bands latest record the sales disaster it is. What will hurt Bon Jovi is Richie not playing the older songs on stage with the band, I agree that live the older stuff won't be the same without R
jman26si 1 year ago
Assuming you believe Jon actually told Richie he can find a new job if he doesn't knock his tabloid stuff off (who can believe the newspaper, etc??) Jon is not going to mess with what works. Richie is an integral part of the band, the four guys. Even Hugh McDonald isn't official as a band member for publicity purposes etc. The four guys work, and if one of them was different it would not be Bon Jovi. Jon knows that, and I don't believe he would ditch Richie as a friend or colleague.
202809 2 years ago
i agree, jon would never tell richie that. theyre best friends, compadres in music, brothers, everything.
i mean you cant believe what papers, magazines, or e news all the time!
regulators88 1 year ago
Funny thing about newspapers, magazines etc, they print what they think will sell most of their product, so the headlines will quite often have a vague suggestion of truth only, just enough to get people to buy and read more, but no base to the big print that got reader's attention in the first place...I am always wary when they report ' a friend said......' Like David Bryan said 'the only way out of this band is death'. I actually heard him say it in interview on their plane. Bon Jovi 4ever!
202809 1 year ago
haha, Jon can say what he wants, but if he fired Richie, there'd be no Bon Jovi. Full stop. They wouldn't find a guitarist anywhere near as good, and if they did, i don't think many people would embrace it. yeah Jon runs the band, he calls the shots, but in no way is he THE band, i highly doubt that Bon Jovi without Richie would be called Bon Jovi by the fans
milzy1345 2 years ago 48
Sorry, I am a huge Bon Jovi fan, however, as far as guitarists go Richie is FAR from being one of the best. I wouldn't even put him in the top 10 and replacing him would be a cinch.
comedyandtragedi 2 years ago
yeah, but i mean as good for the band, sorry, shoulda been clearer. like with his exact style. cos his style compliments the band's style. and what they did with john such, if they did that with richie, i dunno if it'd go as smoothly

i no tht jon made the band "bon jovi" b4 they got big.....but he was the guitarist up untill they got big...and i think he was just a big jerk to everyone and was on lots-o-drugs! lol so they let him go and soon after Richie hooped in and the band took off!
UnplugedGuitarGuy 1 year ago
@milzy1345 Yes this is true. I don't think Richie does as well without Jon, just as Jon doesn't do as well without Richie... The point is, whether they realise it or not (I hope they do) they are brothers and they depend on each other.
DancinJim 1 year ago
@milzy1345 If Jon fires Richie, Jon fires his second half !
1hungrigerHugo1 1 year ago
@milzy1345 I agree. To be honest, although Jon is a great front man, Richie is the one who the real fans like. When I say real fans, I mean the ones who understand that the Jovi isn't the most musically accomplished band, and like and appreciate them for what they are. I will defend them to the end, but I recognise there is an element of cheese. One of the key factors in that is that Richie Sambora is a fantastic guitarist, regardless of what lyrics accompany his riffs.
DancinJim 1 year ago
@DancinJim I've been a Bon Jovi fan since 1985, 7800 F-days. Real fans??? Are the ones that have stood by the BAND, not just one person. Musically accoplished??? Let me say that greatest songs in Rock'n'Roll history are Very simple riffs. And there is not many bands to perform those simple songs better nowadays than BJ. Wheater their own of some other legend, they always nail it!!
Elicotteri 1 year ago
@Elicotteri No, that's not correct. When I say real fans, I mean the ones who don't just follow the band out of blind obsession (and let's face it, there's a lot of people who like Jon for his looks, not his music) Real fans actually appreciate the skill of Richie's guitarmanship. So you kind of proved my point by saying "greatest songs in Rock'n'Roll history are Very simple riffs." as it is Richie who plays the riffs, not Jon.
DancinJim 1 year ago
@DancinJim what are you saying about me then, i think jon was absolutly gorgeous when he was younger, and still is, and his music is just so increadible it blows me away! thats kinda 'blind obsession' as you say and his music...you know there are some people that are interested in both
1995Sian 1 year ago
@1995Sian I'm not saying anything about you. I was making a general statement. I still believe that a lot of people (women especially) would have liked whatever songs he made, because they fell in love with his image. As a straight male, I look at the band from a music-only standpoint, and from that I have always admired Richie Sambora above anyone else in the band, because he has proven that he can not only play great guitar, but he also has an amazing voice. I want another solo album from him.
DancinJim 1 year ago
@milzy1345 Heh, and u had to come "this far" to tell that to Jon. Where has Jon underestimated Richie's influence in the band? I don't think he will ever do it, because there's no reason for it. He knows how important Richie is for the band and also for him personally. They are friends, not competitors. Your comment is rediculous.
Elicotteri 1 year ago
@Elicotteri i was replying to a comment talking about how Jon told Richie that if he didn't stop all his "tabloid stuff", whatever that is, then he can find a new job. and i don't doubt he'd do it either. cos even though they're friends, it'd be like any other business. if one person is giving the business a bad name (the "tabloid stuff"), then they get fired, whether they were the boss's friend or not. that being said, Bon Jovi without Richie isn't Bon Jovi in my books.
milzy1345 1 year ago
@milzy1345 I TOTALLY AGREE!
MrMegaFredzeppelin 1 year ago
@milzy1345 i agree, the band needs both jon and richie...jon and richie write the music...without richie, the lyrics would be nowhere near as good, kinda like lennon/mccartney. and sure, jon can play guitar too, but there is no way the music would be any good with out richie. with out richie's guitar, the music is just empty...and i agree that the fans wouldn't call them bon jovi without richie...just the same as the beatles arent the beatles with out john paull george AND ringo
1995Sian 1 year ago
@milzy1345 I thought tah same bout Guns n Roses and Slash... People may say whatever they want but I think there is not GnR without Slash anymore. And so it would be with Bon Jovi and Richie... You´re absolutely right..

MsSindyLove 1 year ago 11
@milzy1345 they need each other. but that's beside the point anyway. you have to think about what would have happened to Richie if he wouldn't have been in Bon Jovi! what if instead of BJ he'd joined Kiss back in 83? maybe his life would have been different and he wouldn't have had any problems at all. but the problem he had, in another band? he wouldn't be alive anymore....he needed the support from all of them (J, D, T, H and maybe even B) to get back to being a great guitarist.
aKiZoT 1 year ago
@aKiZoT True, but I disagree with the last statement, Bon Jovi didn't make Richie a great guitarist, but they definitely help him with life and stuff.
milzy1345 1 year ago

It was a manufactured project that took off.
theselector 2 years ago
you know everyone get their chances if e had one uncle well lucky him. I remember the beatles also made big concerts and they were like pop stars those days some people hated them some like them. it just good music both are great and this song inspired a lot of musicians and ppl
juancabmx 2 years ago
The major difference is that The Beatles were an organic band that got together naturally through friendships and aquaintances whereas Bon Jovi are a "manufactured" band that basically were always in it solely for the money. Artistic integrity , creativity and/or meaningful songs with any social , poetic or political message was out the window. Only corporate greed was left.

I mean, come on... Sambora is part of the creative force of this band, hired? i dont think so.
About Them being corporate rockers, well, if a band its in the business for as long as they have been, they have to become a corporation, if not, they would be hustled out by record company sharks and loose control of the whole thing.
JJNZ 1 year ago
Ask the Stone or Aerosmith if they consider themselves corporate rockers... what would be the answer? they also play stadium and arena shows, the beginings of all great bands are different, the results get to be the same most of the time.
JJNZ 1 year ago
@JJNZ (see previous post).......Most of these bands existed in the 80's and wore spandex , wore highlights in their BIG Hair and makeup.....eg Poison , WhiteSnake , Ratt , BonJovi etc... etc... There's ur answer to what a Corporate Rocker is.....someone who thinks of Corporate money and success BEFORE the music.
theselector 1 year ago
@theselector LOL ridiculous. Bon Jovi has outlasted and outperformed all other "hair" bands from the 80's. Not only that, but Jovi is the only band to successfully cross over from one genre to another (rock to country) and still be at the top of the charts. If creating music they love, which also happens to be commercially successful, makes them rich with "corporate" money, then so be it. But let me guess, you are a liberal and you hate success at any level, right?
mythicc 1 year ago
@mythicc You've taken my comment out of context. My reference to "Hair Bands" & "Corporate Rock" was answering someone's post on these 2 aspects of Bon Jovi. And in regards to your other comments you've obviously not read my other posts. In any case I've already said everything I could about this band and there's no point in saying any more. Have a nice day.

UnplugedGuitarGuy 1 year ago
@JJNZ Corporate Rock is a term used to describe a genre or group of bands that play a certain style of music which is usually big , bombastic , slickly overproduced and tailor made to appeal to a mass audience.....the subject matter used in songs is usually chicks , cars , money , the self (how rich , beautiful and great they r) , having a good time and simple things like that that aren't to hard on the old grey matter.
