been to many bruce shows over the years, just done the 2 nights in NJ, they were great, but i'll always reference this show and this song as my greatest bruce moment (so far)... hoping for jersey girl at giants stadium in the fall.
They did this in Denver a week and a half ago--just breathtaking. Life goes on and the E Street band is still truly amazing... the E Street nation loves you Danny.
95% of his songs are about more than what the lyrics say literally, if you listen. Backstreets is about a lot more the being betrayed by a girl. Girls in their Summer Clothes is a lot more than seeing pretty girls and having fun on the beach.
What's amazing about Racing is the beautiful music that is the last half of the song. Beautiful, but sad, at least to me.
At 4:04 Bruce points up to Danny in Heaven. "For all shut down strangers and HOT ROD ANGELS"......RIP Danny, you'll always be loved & missed. E Streeter forever.
Wow... music is so much more than just sound... cannot imagine a more emotional moment. Also thanks to the audience... whole athomosphere is special. Time to reconsider a few things!
Yeah, this is pure emotion. You can tell he's grieving, but he lets his music do the talking. You can tell the mood is sombre, and Bruce connects with the crowd so well.
TERRIFIC i was also at that show on the same side man they played like they had something to prove---they really made DANNY PROUD --seen bruce dozens of time and this time it was personnall-----great show.
What a pleasant surprise to see this clip up...I find it amazing that anyone was able to pull it off; what with Landau's Police on constant alert for such activity.
I was at this show; my seat close to the stage on Steve's side. I had a perfect view of Roy's gorgeous playing. And, as incredibly emotional as the opening was...the tribute to Danny into "Backstreets", the performance of "Racing"...for me...actually topped it.
Suddenly E Street looks so old. The harsh reality of loss knocks you to your knees. Everyone played their own solo to Danny in this song.

Like "Don't Worry Baby"--Brian Wilson's masterpiece IMO--"Racing"' is about MUCH MORE than a car race--especially on this night.

don't know how they held it together.

Yeah, it would have been extremely difficult, considering this was the first show after his death. All credit it to them, though.
