@pwnerinator Thank you. Makes sense. He probably did the electric piano as well; Rabbit was yet to join in and either Hopkins or Stainton usually played acoustic piano only
@pwnerinator Yeah, Pete wrote the chord progression during the Tommy sessions, and the opening chords are very similar to one of the motifs found in Tommy.
@jwmellott This song actually formed out of a jam that The Who played in 1969. They recorded it in 1970, the year before "Who's Next"...although apparently it was considered for the failed "Lifehouse".
Some of the best lyrics that Townshend ever penned... "You hold the gun, and I hold the wound, and we stand looking in each others' eyes, both think we know what's right both know we know what's wrong we tell ourselves so many, many lies, we're not pawns in any game not tools for bigger men, there's only one who can really move us all it all looks fine to the naked eye, but it don't really happen that way at all"
the cd "who's next deluxe" is one of the great cd's of all time. The version of "naked eye" on that cd is "live" from the young Vic performance in 1971. And yes that is an incredible version that could pass for a stuido sound. Hope that helps.
@wwekane2468 It was also included on the DVD re-release of Isle of Wight 1970, in the bonus tracks. pretty awesome performances of their usual live set, plus Water and I Don't Even Know Myself, which were recently added to the set.
First time i heard this i was wondering and at the end of the song i didnt wonder any longer about life at age 13, 43 now come to think of it i was probably High at the time lol. Thanks for the upload. God_bless you- Best regards- Thomas

Anyone know why they always played this song much slower live, then picked up the pace? I'm sure it was Pete's idea. One of The Who's best songs.

@jwmellott It was probably actually written during or right after tommy since it was played at woodstock a few months after tommy's release.

Should've released this as a single or atleast in an album, this could've been a huge hit.
