The thing that sucks about these windmills in particular is that i have to look at them now. Its nice and all but a lot of people just feel like they are being taken advantage of by the rest of the world. What benefits will we see out out of this project? How much less will our electric bill be? Answers: none and not at all respectively. You try having 64 400ft. windmills in your backyard and see how you like it.

these don't add too much beauty to the landscape, you don't want to have to look at these wherever you go. think about it. why not use solar power panels etc instead of polluting the view with these huge windmills. there should be designated place for windmills and not for everyone putting up these wherever they want to.

One thing you need to realize is that solar panels are extremely expensive, if people are getting poorer and poorer how can they afford panels?

Obviously people just aren't throwing up turbines anywhere, there good for windy areas and are very efficent. If things dont change soon you may not have your "landscape" to admire.

Without sunlight, we might as well kiss life goodbye. The suns light should stay consistent, for hundreds if not thousands of years, and after the light fades, the heat, will still be felt. It real issue, is contamination. If we pollute the sky, we could block the sun out. If we pollute the water, we risk destroying the sea food chain. So living like a native on the land, almost makes sense. Except we would have to go backwards, and that aint gonna happen lol.

Where on Earth can I find a graph that shows that maximum potential output of alternative sources, along with the world's current and projected energy use.

Everyone's jumping on the social conscious/innovation bandwagon, but there is little hardcore planning it feels like. Wish Big Ideas did more broad educating.

I've heard recently that biofuel is having to be tb/c "oh yeah..." it takes arable food (rising food prices & starvation) and forest land (less C02 eaters, more gas) to grow it.

That's a reasonable question. My understanding is that the small high speed windmills that used to be popular were dangerous to birds because they spun at high speed. The much larger commercial windmills are much larger and slower. A bird could fly into a blade, but it would be more likely that a bird would fly smack into your closed house window.

The effect is random. Could be the same effect as if you didn't do anything. The big effect are all positive. But who knows, we don't have control over everything, but we still have to make change using the best judgement possible.

The creation of the batteries causes way more damage to the environment then burning coal. Wind is a renewable yes but not environmentally friendly.

what? where is the logic in that? with coal you have to worry about the mining and extraction (leaving slurry in drinking water for surrounding areas and destroying local ecosystems), the effects of burning it (the air we have to breathe), AND the environmental cost of transferring the energy. with wind power, at least you don't have to strip mine and dump heavy metals and toxins in the water, and you don't have to rely on foreign oil.

exactly! it is so annoying the way people gripe and complain about how we are causing climate change, yet they all live in conventional houses, drive gas burning cars and so on.

Now, while I think climate change is blown out of proportion, I make my own biodiesel ( no carbon emissions ) for my truck, and I also use wind, solar, and geo thermal systems on my home. I support clean, self sustaining living.

Apparently it doesn't require HS diploma to make biodiesel because he certainly doesn't have that much education. Bio-diesel not only emits carbon a plenty, it emits more carbon than a comparable gasoline engine. In addition, compared to petroleum based diesel, bio-diesel releases a higher amount of nitrous oxides which are 10 to 20 times more damaging to the air and contribute to global warming.
