I don't think you can, in order to get close you have to not do loyalty missions which results in deaths. At the final battle if your last 2 squadmates die then theres nobody to pull you up into the normandy at the end, which results in Shepard's death
I didn't play ME1, so at the time of playing I really, really didn't see anything wrong with handing over the alien base to the rich guy who brought me back from the dead, provided me with alien/black ops tech via DLC and is dedicated to securing humanity's dominance. That's a good thing, right?
Idk, I think I like the ending where one of your squad mates dies better (I didn't have enough paragon points to keep jacks loyalty). Also, I wonder how the ship will come into play in ME3...
Congratulations on handing Reaper technology to the Illusive Man, even though his voice actor Martin Sheen said, and I quote "I wouldn't trust him!" You sir, are fucked. Enjoy the 6th or 9th of March when you shit your own kidney out after failing stupendously. I bet you even chose to save Kaiden. Disgraceful...

@BiteMyBios001 that is what i'm doing with the "naive" paragon shepard. He already killed the council, didnt save Wrex, and he is going to have the "bad guys" get the cookie. He is a good dude but makes the wrong critical choices where it counts. I just want to see what happens if he gets it.
@Akumatrunigga Well I dunno, I just felt like playing like an asshole and being an asshole and doing what assholes do, least on my renegade one, the way I see it, he's not evil or naive, he's just an asshole.
@BiteMyBios001 fair enough my FemShep is this "asshole" but she is a softy inside. Like she saved the council, saved wrex, she doesnt like cerberus at all and already she is arguing with Miranda. The one thing the naive male shep did right was he didnt kill the queen.
i just had a flashback of when i first completed this game and when the scene kicks in with the hundreds of thousands of reapers and then the credits come up i remember thinking fuck it i wanna carry on playing so i can destroy all of you, now i only have to wait a little bit longer and my wish will come true
@kunven a Red giant still takes millions of years till it "blows up" so the Protheans could have been watching it too and I doubt the Illusive man will stick around that long
I was always paragon, but I did save the station because I thought it would help and it didn't require any lives to be lost. However, given the status of Cerberus in ME3 this might have been a poor choice.
@TheInkCurtain all reapers are made from a certain species. so their cores end up looking like that species, but then they get a tough exterior that looks like a bug. if the human reapers had developed enough to get the tough exterior, shephard would not have been able to kill it on his own.

@BiteMyBios001 We disagree on fundamental concepts within this series, so no point continuing this discussion. You have your idealized view, I have less black and white.
i blew up the collecter base mainly cause lol i has trust issues with cerberus after they tried killing me serval times in the first game and then in this one their all like LETS BE friends and i'm like yea... still dont trust you for shit
@godsun212 Really? Wow, now I half to hear petty insults from someone who hides behind their computer. Why don't you us a favor and get hell off. Like we need another damn troll on the internet. I was only joking at the fact it very rare to see someone use a M Shepard unlike most people that use F Shepard. Nothing gay to that. It seems that way to you causes you said so, but like I really give a fuck about your meaningless insults over the damn web.
Basically what happens in ME3 is that if you save the collector ship instead of destroying it. It should make the game harder because i heard you fight cerberus in ME3 sooo im guessing they just have real strong weapons and all.
@MsDarkElement By that point you've done more for her then everyone in the galaxy combined. Sure you made a decision that wasn't very good. But then again you're the only person she trusts. Screw Cerberus, she's loyal to Shepard.
I find interesting that the colour of the Star behind the Illusive Man changes throughout the game. In this ending is redish while in the paragon one it looks bluish. I always thought that the bluish thing was the result of the dark energy aging the star as the quarians say it happened in their homeworld and that the Illusive Man was investigating the same thing. Not so sure anymore.
Unhealthy and aggressive thoughts aggravate the scars and make them more visible. Something to do with Shepard being a FREAKY CYBORG with a MECHANICAL SKELETON at this point.
@BiteMyBios001 The reasoning is that the red scars were caused by the Lazarous Project and that being a paragon - something about inner-self worth or whatever - will allow them to heal faster. Otherwise you can just pay to get a machine in the Med Bay and get it done that way. It's not entirely forced on you unlike something stupid in Fable.
@AdamJamesWalker86 Don't know if you noticed, but what I said was a joke, besides, no need to point out what other 20 people have already pointed out before you.
@DeusExInfernus You truly dont understand the story dont you? After Shep was killed, Cerberus rebuilt him with cybernetics - that includes mechanical facial implants
@DeusExInfernus They explain it in-game as having to do with the stress involved with having a crap attitude making it hard for your body to heal. Idk
@DeusExInfernus Actually if you pay attention, it explains it quite simply. The facial reconstruction you receive slowly wears off and you get scars and all of that if you live a "stressed" life or what-have-you. The only way for it to heal or be prevented is by having a "positive" outlook. Hence if you are rash and angry, your face deteriorates, and if you're virtuous and just, you heal. People who live overly stressful lives age worse than others. It makes sense, and adds a cool mechanic.
@DeusExInfernus love this ending doing bad thngs are the reason why mankind is still alive today dont be naive and talk about peace that is merely an illusion war is permanent! sorry for the english im jap! :P
@DeusExInfernus Because Bioware fails at making badassness. I imagine in ME3 being an asshole will turn you into an actual scary looking badass, but in ME2 its just halfway, and you look like a tard with makeup
@DeusExInfernus Haven't you read the e-mail from Dr.Chakwas? She says that making bad decisions is stressfull or something like that and that causes that messed up face :)
@DeusExInfernus apparently the act of restoring shephards life was a paragon action in itself and so he sort of reverts back to his pre-surgery self when he negates the action with renegade actions
Thanks. I'm not ever getting this ending, even though I always play Renegade. We didn't need Collecter tech to blow up Soveriegn, and we're not going to need it against the other Reapers either. Plus, it's nice telling the Illusive Man to go fuck himself after you pretend to be his favorite little agent all game.
@Vocalkokoro That's a good idea, but there may be some story gaps because of dialogue that occurs in game.
One of the best things about Mass Effect is how you shape your story through your character. Watching only the cutscenes may not be as engaging storywise.
Just some friendly advice. It's a good idea; In fact, I got into the Mass Effect series by watching a walkthrough for the game. Which is another option for you, but if you're interested in story alone, you may want a non-commentary one.
@idkwmytuni Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I kinda figured I had to adjust to something such as a walkthrough since video games normally don't exactly fit as movies, cutscenes alone. I'll do that, thanks! :)
It's always surprising to see how much of the story actually takes place in the game rather than just the cutscenes.
Although, if you have an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 3, or a decent PC I'd heavily recommend you get the game after delving into some of the cutscenes. Since it's somewhat old, you can get a copy of the first and second games for pretty decent prices now. However, they might rise a bit, given that Mass Effect 3 is pretty close to being released
This does seem to be the canon ending and how Cerberus got indoctrinated in the first place because if you look at the story line of Mass Effect: Retribution and Mass Effect: Invasion, They actually acquire the Collector Base and use it for their own needs. Shepard gives it to them believing it could actually help against the Reapers while warning The Illusive Man not to grow power-hungry but even that doesn't stop a man who just wants humanity on top rather than help the rest of the galaxy
@BiteMyBios001 There is a canon ending. If you don't import anything then it's gonna be a canon story. eg If you don't kill Wrex in the ME1 and you don't import anything in ME2 then Wrex is dead. Which means that in the canon ME1 ending Wrex is dead. Get it?
@OBL1997 That's not canon, that's "default", you don't really expect the game to tell you "oh sorry, you can't play since you havn't played the previous game"....once again, YOU write the story, that's what Casey Hudson was aiming all along with the series. Get it?
@OBL1997 There is a huuuuuge difference between canon and default, if any ending in ME would be considered canon, then there would be no point in giving players the ability to make choices...
@BiteMyBios001 Yeah, that would suck pretty much :P U know what someone should do in ME2? Destroy the base and die...so that TIM will be left without a base and without a shepard. I know it's off topic but I always wanted to say that ;D
@mtbond2007 Actually regardless of blowing it up they turn. I figured they would get indoctrinated if I kept it. I mean Harbinger controlled the general from the base.
You know, my first playthrough, I was a Paragon, but still gave the collector base to Cerberus. Because I wanted variety in how ME3 plays out for my two characters, my Renegade character chose to blow up the base... but this ending is just so fitting. Uggh, I guess that means I'm going to do yet another new game+. :\ Well at least it's killing time before the demo is released.
I can see why TIM is an enemy in 3. Even going down the Renegade path, it could set up TIM's abandoning Shepard. "If you can keep up, great. If not stay out of my way".
@RollingMerc Have you not looked at the facts for ME3? The reason that cerberus is your enemy is because they have all been indoctrinated. Therefore giving the illusive man (cerberus) the base you can guess that you screwed yourself
Damnnn... Somebody hit him with a UGLY STICK. Plastic surgery is him the game. Turn it off!...TURN IT OFF!... for gods sake turn. Man I love Mass Effect 1,2 and 3 when release.
my theory is the illusive man is actually a prothean that is being perserved by the reapers to give Shepard a false sense of hope. which is supported by cerberus turning on you in me3
I totally don't see how we'll push back the reapers ... I mean it took the combined fleets of almost everyone to take down ONE reaper in the first game ... and we only killed him because his defenses where down ... and yet he destroyed half of the combined alliance fleet in the process.
Now theres enough of them to blacken the skies on every world?! NOOOO CHANNNCEE!!
@PINO133
I don't think you can, in order to get close you have to not do loyalty missions which results in deaths. At the final battle if your last 2 squadmates die then theres nobody to pull you up into the normandy at the end, which results in Shepard's death

OMG, it's a MaleShepard.! That's very rare to see. lol. Most of the Shepards on youtube videos are skimpy femShepards.

@HenryinART Yeah gay boys trying to blame it on the voice acting.
godsun212 3 weeks ago
@godsun212 Really? Wow, now I half to hear petty insults from someone who hides behind their computer. Why don't you us a favor and get hell off. Like we need another damn troll on the internet. I was only joking at the fact it very rare to see someone use a M Shepard unlike most people that use F Shepard. Nothing gay to that. It seems that way to you causes you said so, but like I really give a fuck about your meaningless insults over the damn web.
HenryinART 3 weeks ago
Basically what happens in ME3 is that if you save the collector ship instead of destroying it. It should make the game harder because i heard you fight cerberus in ME3 sooo im guessing they just have real strong weapons and all.
TheKirbycog 1 month ago
All I got to say, is that I can't look at custom male sheps xD I play default cause he looks amazing :D then I customise the female :P

Im Surprised jack stays with you if you hand the collector base of to TIM.
MsDarkElement 1 month ago
@MsDarkElement By that point you've done more for her then everyone in the galaxy combined. Sure you made a decision that wasn't very good. But then again you're the only person she trusts. Screw Cerberus, she's loyal to Shepard.

I find interesting that the colour of the Star behind the Illusive Man changes throughout the game. In this ending is redish while in the paragon one it looks bluish. I always thought that the bluish thing was the result of the dark energy aging the star as the quarians say it happened in their homeworld and that the Illusive Man was investigating the same thing. Not so sure anymore.

If I ever understand why being a huge dick (A.K.A Renegade) in this game messes up your face...
I mean sure, when it started in Star Wars, there was a hint of a logical reason, but here?!
DeusExInfernus 1 month ago 9
@DeusExInfernus you can get ship enhancements to fix the scars
Akumatrunigga 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus
Unhealthy and aggressive thoughts aggravate the scars and make them more visible. Something to do with Shepard being a FREAKY CYBORG with a MECHANICAL SKELETON at this point.
Hrrrrng 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus Asshole D.N.A, as logical as it gets in this game.
BiteMyBios001 1 month ago 47
@BiteMyBios001 The reasoning is that the red scars were caused by the Lazarous Project and that being a paragon - something about inner-self worth or whatever - will allow them to heal faster. Otherwise you can just pay to get a machine in the Med Bay and get it done that way. It's not entirely forced on you unlike something stupid in Fable.
AdamJamesWalker86 3 weeks ago
@AdamJamesWalker86 Don't know if you noticed, but what I said was a joke, besides, no need to point out what other 20 people have already pointed out before you.
BiteMyBios001 3 weeks ago
@DeusExInfernus You truly dont understand the story dont you? After Shep was killed, Cerberus rebuilt him with cybernetics - that includes mechanical facial implants
vinchisters 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus I believe it had something to do with the implants used to reanimate Shepherd's body...
enterprise0709 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus They explain it in-game as having to do with the stress involved with having a crap attitude making it hard for your body to heal. Idk
mrchuckmorris 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus
Your implants make your face do that if you dont remove them. You take em out, your face is normal no matter who you shoot. =)
djdeej02 1 month ago

deathwing316 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus Because Bioware fails at making badassness. I imagine in ME3 being an asshole will turn you into an actual scary looking badass, but in ME2 its just halfway, and you look like a tard with makeup

@melhupby Bioware fails at making Badasses?
The entire cast of every BW game in the past decade wants a word with you.

@DeusExInfernus If my theory behind the technology behind the Lazarus Project ends up being correct, I have a feeling it'll make more sense in ME3.
Xelpherpolis 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus Haven't you read the e-mail from Dr.Chakwas? She says that making bad decisions is stressfull or something like that and that causes that messed up face :)
darkraider564 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus Dr Chakwas sends you an email saying "Renegade" options will cause the Cybernetic Implants to show, AKA the scars.
robloxguy23 1 month ago
@DeusExInfernus In the game it is justified by emotions being a factor in the process of healing.
But the true purpose is to make him look more badass.

@DeusExInfernus It's a game! It's entirely for dramatic effect.
LaughinGarry 3 weeks ago
@DeusExInfernus apparently the act of restoring shephards life was a paragon action in itself and so he sort of reverts back to his pre-surgery self when he negates the action with renegade actions
bananamancanbmc 2 weeks ago
DocRavage 1 month ago
There's something about your shepard, can't put my finger on it... OH!!! He's Desmond Miles!

I love how Shepard pretty much tells the illusive man to 'kiss my ass' in paragon or renegade endings :P
Cant waitttt for ME3!

I don't have this game, but I think I'm going to watch the cutscenes as a movie soon. It seems quite interesting.
Vocalkokoro 1 month ago
@Vocalkokoro That's a good idea, but there may be some story gaps because of dialogue that occurs in game.
One of the best things about Mass Effect is how you shape your story through your character. Watching only the cutscenes may not be as engaging storywise.
Just some friendly advice. It's a good idea; In fact, I got into the Mass Effect series by watching a walkthrough for the game. Which is another option for you, but if you're interested in story alone, you may want a non-commentary one.
idkwmytuni 1 month ago
@idkwmytuni Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I kinda figured I had to adjust to something such as a walkthrough since video games normally don't exactly fit as movies, cutscenes alone. I'll do that, thanks! :)
Vocalkokoro 1 month ago
@Vocalkokoro Of course, glad to help.
However, they might rise a bit, given that Mass Effect 3 is pretty close to being released
idkwmytuni 1 month ago
This does seem to be the canon ending and how Cerberus got indoctrinated in the first place because if you look at the story line of Mass Effect: Retribution and Mass Effect: Invasion, They actually acquire the Collector Base and use it for their own needs. Shepard gives it to them believing it could actually help against the Reapers while warning The Illusive Man not to grow power-hungry but even that doesn't stop a man who just wants humanity on top rather than help the rest of the galaxy
mtbond2007 1 month ago
@mtbond2007 There is no canon ending, you shape the story to your liking.
BiteMyBios001 1 month ago 36
@BiteMyBios001 There is a canon ending. If you don't import anything then it's gonna be a canon story. eg If you don't kill Wrex in the ME1 and you don't import anything in ME2 then Wrex is dead. Which means that in the canon ME1 ending Wrex is dead. Get it?
OBL1997 1 month ago
@OBL1997 That's not canon, that's "default", you don't really expect the game to tell you "oh sorry, you can't play since you havn't played the previous game"....once again, YOU write the story, that's what Casey Hudson was aiming all along with the series. Get it?
BiteMyBios001 1 month ago 17
@BiteMyBios001 'default' 'canon'...whatever! ;p
OBL1997 1 month ago
@OBL1997 There is a huuuuuge difference between canon and default, if any ending in ME would be considered canon, then there would be no point in giving players the ability to make choices...
BiteMyBios001 1 month ago 9
@BiteMyBios001 Yeah, that would suck pretty much :P U know what someone should do in ME2? Destroy the base and die...so that TIM will be left without a base and without a shepard. I know it's off topic but I always wanted to say that ;D
OBL1997 1 month ago
@OBL1997 I did that once, I had a FemShep and I wanted to kill her off so I decided to destroy the base and die in it :P

@JacksFinalStand98 I guess Mr Illusive didnt like that, huh? :)

@mtbond2007 its never stated they use the BASE but they use the place and the remains they have.
supervegito2277 1 month ago
@mtbond2007 Actually regardless of blowing it up they turn. I figured they would get indoctrinated if I kept it. I mean Harbinger controlled the general from the base.

so who's going to own their decision to let him have the base and deal with the consequences?
expatginger 1 month ago
i gave him the base, thinking i could reign TIM in with my huge balls if he got out of line. looks like we'll all "be paying the price"
expatginger 1 month ago
You know, my first playthrough, I was a Paragon, but still gave the collector base to Cerberus. Because I wanted variety in how ME3 plays out for my two characters, my Renegade character chose to blow up the base... but this ending is just so fitting. Uggh, I guess that means I'm going to do yet another new game+. :\ Well at least it's killing time before the demo is released.

I can see why TIM is an enemy in 3. Even going down the Renegade path, it could set up TIM's abandoning Shepard. "If you can keep up, great. If not stay out of my way".
GhostLink92 1 month ago
@RollingMerc Have you not looked at the facts for ME3? The reason that cerberus is your enemy is because they have all been indoctrinated. Therefore giving the illusive man (cerberus) the base you can guess that you screwed yourself

my theory is the illusive man is actually a prothean that is being perserved by the reapers to give Shepard a false sense of hope. which is supported by cerberus turning on you in me3
Awesomesauce213 1 month ago
@Awesomesauce213 The reason TIMs eyes are like that is because he is part husk and the reason cerberus turns on you is because they are indocternated
Doctalen 1 month ago

@BrIza488 Yes, You get reinstated in the alliance
Doctalen 1 month ago
I totally don't see how we'll push back the reapers ... I mean it took the combined fleets of almost everyone to take down ONE reaper in the first game ... and we only killed him because his defenses where down ... and yet he destroyed half of the combined alliance fleet in the process.
Now theres enough of them to blacken the skies on every world?! NOOOO CHANNNCEE!!
