I happen to have a Sansa Clip. It has wonderful sound! Not perfect, but DEFINITELY better than the iPod Shuffle. The bass comes through so well. Oh, and having a screen is a great plus :D!

ipod is all gimmick, you are paying for the name, not necessarily quality. And sansa offers better sound quality and more features at a fraction of the cost. So if you wanna follow the crowd then do it. The new generation of sansa's audio chip is superior to all the new ipods, you just gotta get a good set of earphones to bring that full potential out. I recommend the sansa fuze. And the micro sd slots expansion offers lots of extra storage.

The iPod strikes me as a product that's designed to first catch everyone who is devoted to every product Apple creates, and then scoop up everyone that doesn't understand how MP3 files and MP3 players work. Those people will buy it because they recognize the name Apple and in their mind iPod is synonymous with a device that plays MP3s. Don't get me wrong, I love my Apple IIe to this day, but a lot of the proprietary-crippled things Apple sells move so well because of the company name.
@MusicVids51 Pretty popular with athletes. I use my Clip+ nearly everyday either going to the gym or on a run. No armband tanlines and you can barely feel the player clipped to your waistband. I use mine strictly as an exercise companion.

@AutomaticRobo looks and aesthetics in exchange for functionality and price. Any MP3 player under 100 bucks looks poor anyway but I can sure exploit its sound quality and storage for music than using the new generation or even some older generation shuffles.

Never had the shuffle but I've had 2 sansa clips - 1gb and 8gb and they kick ass and are very sturdy- I dropped mine alot- also had a car crash -though it didn't work as good.(but still worked)afterwards . It's small so you will drop it. But i'm getting the new "sansa clip plus" , which has a better clip, sd slot !!!!, more search options like genre etc
If you are on a budget, get the sansa, from what i have seen its a great mp3 player. If you have a bit more money, go for a sony walkman mp3 player. If you are insecure and have plenty of money to waste, get an apple mp3 player. I own an ipod touch, i bought it for the music but i was stupid, its too much about the style and ease of use that it just totally takes away the main selling point (Music). Ipods are not good, but apple make great laptops and software. This is just my oppinion.

My criPod shuffle's base station thing broke. I dropped 20 bucks to order a new one from Apple, but for some reason it didn't work with my unit (looks like my unit is too old even though I bought it just a few months ago). I got close to buying a whole new shuffle, but decided to go with the clip+ instead. I have little but distaste for Apple, but having said that, I feel like a side by side comparison between these units isn't exactly fair. Obviously the shuffle is going for something diff.

Here's how I'd design the next iPod Shuffle.
1. Keep roughly the same size (because it's frankly amazing) and the clip
2. Add a micro SD card slot inside the device (it would fit, trust me), thus allowing for up to 66 GB of music on the device (!)
3. Add a tiny icon-by-icon title-by-title LCD touch screen filling most of the device's top facade
THERE YOU GO, the best compact MP3 player out there.

The iPod strikes me as a product that's designed to first catch everyone who is devoted to every product Apple creates, and then scoop up everyone that doesn't understand how MP3 files and MP3 players work. Those people will buy it because they recognize the name Apple and in their mind iPod is synonymous with a device that plays MP3s. Don't get me wrong, I love my Apple IIe to this day, but a lot of the proprietary-crippled things Apple sells move so well because of the company name.

@MusicVids51 Pretty popular with athletes. I use my Clip+ nearly everyday either going to the gym or on a run. No armband tanlines and you can barely feel the player clipped to your waistband. I use mine strictly as an exercise companion.

I do agree that sansa is better but this isn't a fair comparison... shuffle is just a mp3 created thinking on people who go to gym or keep all day doing sports, and for that purpose it is the best player on the market.

@998507097 clip is also great for gym or sports. why shuffle is better?its only advantage is size and battery life, in all other aspects clip just crushes shuffle: screen, more space, cheaper (8gb clip +16gb sd card costs just like 4gb shuffle which btw hasnt got card slot,), much better sound quality also it's more suitable for listening audiobooks and so on and on

@notraxz I talk by my needs and, the size, and the bottomless of the shuffle makes it ideal, It's not my interest to watch a screen during my bike training, and so on, and, it may be psychological but my shuffle REALLY shuffles my music. price isn't the important thing... sound quality, I mean, like 80% of population doesn't even know what is a soundstage... but, it's always personal, so, I feel that shuffle fulfill my needs, so I use it. I use the fuze when better sound is needed

@AutomaticRobo looks and aesthetics in exchange for functionality and price. Any MP3 player under 100 bucks looks poor anyway but I can sure exploit its sound quality and storage for music than using the new generation or even some older generation shuffles.

Never had the shuffle but I've had 2 sansa clips - 1gb and 8gb and they kick ass and are very sturdy- I dropped mine alot- also had a car crash -though it didn't work as good.(but still worked)afterwards . It's small so you will drop it. But i'm getting the new "sansa clip plus" , which has a better clip, sd slot !!!!, more search options like genre etc

If you are on a budget, get the sansa, from what i have seen its a great mp3 player. If you have a bit more money, go for a sony walkman mp3 player. If you are insecure and have plenty of money to waste, get an apple mp3 player. I own an ipod touch, i bought it for the music but i was stupid, its too much about the style and ease of use that it just totally takes away the main selling point (Music). Ipods are not good, but apple make great laptops and software. This is just my oppinion.

plus the original shuffle is only $50 and id say its better than the new one, plus all the mp3 players iv owned always freeze, iv tried sony, sansa, and all the other ones, i went swiming with my shufful and it still worked perfectlly, i got my mp3 a litle bit wet and it broke, the company gave me another one and it froze and never worked again after a month of use, and iv been way harded on my ipod, iv droped it 100 times and its still good

when u think about it, apple wins beacause they have fuckin ipod touches and shit, and sansa has nothing, exept litle things, and second of all, i have a super small shufful and is has volume buttons on it and all the other stuff, even hold button to make it save energy, so why are they using the stupid shuffle that has nothing on it, i dont get it and its not fair. and yes i am talking about a shuffle, actually the first tipe of shuffle, and it has no screen

My criPod shuffle's base station thing broke. I dropped 20 bucks to order a new one from Apple, but for some reason it didn't work with my unit (looks like my unit is too old even though I bought it just a few months ago). I got close to buying a whole new shuffle, but decided to go with the clip+ instead. I have little but distaste for Apple, but having said that, I feel like a side by side comparison between these units isn't exactly fair. Obviously the shuffle is going for something diff.

sansa clip´s not diverting from the music itself - not only the device itself but the way mp3´s, album´s and playlists can be uploaded. No proprietary software and no proprietary connection. If they now increase the width a little bit to make the battery unproprietary (since on long trips or in Siberia...), too it´s
