What the cat is trying to do is what it would do outside ie make a small hole to do the business in (scraping the toilet inner side) and then cats always attempt to cover where they have been. Not like dogs who usually just walk off.

I wonder if these cats watch humans and have figured it out what they do there.

My mother's cat did this but she did not know how it had learned to do it.

This reminds of when I tried a homemade approach using cardboard. Unfortunately the cat somehow got around the edge of it, crammed herself halfway (facefirst) into the toilet then pee'd while doing something like a handstand. Quite a mess. I bought a Citikitty and things are going much better.

think you need to raise the tray where the litter is so that it's leveled with the toilet seat. so he doesn't go inside the toilet to poop, he should be using the toilet seat rim to balance.

lol!!! I learned to prevent that by making sure the container was filled 3/4 of the way up and slowly reducing the litter :p this was pretty funny and gross lol

that's how they get trained to use the toilet. You start with a litter box IN the toilet then gradually take the litter out until they're dropping dueces in the water like a champ.

teaching them to flush is a whole other story.
