  • The title suits it perfectly...

  • i keep thinking that this was also in chrono trigger as a arranged version of a couple of songs. but which ones? anyways i just beaten chrono cross again a gaem i haven't played in years. it is sad and emotional the music is great. this is what games are missing these days atleast that is what i think. classic game great music perfect combo for a wonderful game. i wish the rpg games by square enix was as great as the square soft games yes i know they are the same but square soft is better

  • @squallcloudzell This is basically an arranged version of Schala's theme. I haven't heard Mitsuda say anything about it. However, you can pretty much overlay Schala's theme with the rhythm at 0:55.

  • For a minute i can´t think of a better videogame composer than Yasunori Mitsuda. Chrono trigger, Xenogears, Xenosaga and probably the best game OST ever made, Chrono Cross come to my mind.

Uematsu and Akira Yamaoka are top composers too, but Mitsuda´s music has something absolutely unique feeling wise that cannot be explained with mere words.

  • @ValkyriePROfile83 David Wise has some good moments too, but Mitsuda definitely takes the cake, and no one can lie about that.

  • This music is perfect to hear on the bed with your eyes closed to think about your life...

  • @Slayerx49 exactly

  • Can anyone recommend a good new RPG? Seriously can't find any good ones anymore. All flashy graphics, no story. Even the Final Fantasy series has turned to custard since starting on the PS2. *sigh*

  • @CommentFanatic I was surprised by Arc Rise Fantasia available on the Wii. As good as these classics? No, but better than most. It will make you think in your battle strategies. It's one of those games where the story gets stronger with each new scene. And quite an epic score as well.

  • @FencerforJesus Hmm, is that only for the Wii? I only have PC/PS3 and some old consoles. Will probably rent it and use a friends Wii if it is, the controls must be interesting. Thanks alot.

  • @CommentFanatic I don't play the PC games and I don't have a PS3, so I can't help for those systems. Arc Rise Fantasia is only for the Wii that I know of.

  • @CommentFanatic Radiant Historia for the DS.

  • @CommentFanatic Have you tried Dragon Age (Origins or 2) or any of The Elder Scrolls?

  • best part, 0:40 and beyond

  • To be honest, videogames these days aren't that bad as you people claim it to be. The Zelda series and the Kingdom Hearts series are still one of many videogame series that are still considered good. Maybe it's because I'm only fifteen, but those games had an impact on me, just like this one. Whie I agree that a lot of videogames aren't as 'amazing' as some of the older ones , there are still new games that are really awesome too! :D

  • @TheAwesomerandom You haven't been around long enough to really know the history of gaming. Those who complain about the gaming industry are talking in general and I fully agree. Overall, gaming quality has gone down. Graphics have gone up but what makes a quality game has gone down. That being said, Zelda has been around for ages and is a standard for what gaming should be. KH is perhaps the best 'new series' out there that I've played. But it is an exception and not the rule.

  • @FencerforJesus I know I haven't been around long enough, but that's what cousins are for, ya know XD. Games that are from this generation and I find amazing are not very popular. Okami is a pretty amazing game, but not many people know about it. It also doesn't help that the company that produced it is now closed.

  • So many people complain about how bad games are nowadays but they are constantly buying them anyway, We have to stop if we want change!

  • Comment removed

  • I weep for this generation. I'm 28 but I feel like this genre is dying. All everyone wants to play is COD or Battlefield and want nothing but multiplayer games and sacrficing good stories for something you'll play with your friends for a month or two and then it collects dust

  • @TheMikon The memory of playing with a friend is easily replaced by another game.

The memory of another world is timeless.

  • They sure don't make them like this anymore...

  • this song on that part out?

  • started dance like a crazy when use Chrono Cross ending

  • The video game industry now cares more about money than quality. It creates action games and such to be physically appealing to customers. However, they no longer create amazing games with true emotion or meaning to them.

  • @DaNi3lJu777 While not entirely true I do agree to an extent.

There are still some RPGs and stories being made out there which still contain emotion, but none of them even come close to the ammount of emotion and feeling Chrono Cross puts out.

It's sad but I think you see more emotion in newgrounds flash games these days...

  • @IidoTheFox Nier laughs at you and your ignorance.

  • @DvDangerous: Nier had a good storyline. However, it lacked many other things to make a it a good game as a whole.

  • The healing Chrono Cross melody that shall defeat the Time Devourer :')

  • Sounds like Schala theme ;P

  • @22Lucid they ran out of money coz people kept on pirating their games

  • @ireallygotnothing lol. The industry is more profitable now then it ever was. Ever.

  • Life... What a fitting title. This song has all the great emotions I could ever have possibly imagined.

  • Epic! I played this game yrs ago and never got to the end... but this music motivates me all the same... Thanx for uploading this cuz I really Love Chrono Cross and it's music. Best game ever!!! >_<

  • Wow, it had been a while since I heard this song... so powerful!

  • ...This game probably redifined what I desired in video games. Releasing Schala from Lavos and that Good Ending hit me in a place no tear-jerker film or book could match...

I can't recall the entire speech she made, but that one line stuck with me for years: "Any one of us could be that chosen life form that could inseminate a planet. Yes, even "You"...." I still don't know if she meant the player or Serge, but as a kid it made me feel...safe knowing she meant me.

  • i've played this game million of times... but this music just make me play it over and over again... why good videogames had to die u.u

  • I truly miss the Chrono series. Today I am a game reviewer and I gotta tell you, I don't think we will ever see another franchise like Chrono. This series is the only series I support to where I collect and support every version of the game. The story is deep, the soundtrack is one of the few that can move my very soul, and the games themself are some of the few I will continue to go back and play till the end of my days. New game or not, this series will always live inside those it touched.

  • I remember playing this game and morrowind long ago.....and the impact they had on me, Especially when i had a hard day i know i could come home and exist in another world and escape my problems.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY?

  • @22Lucid You grew up.

  • @22Lucid Don't worry man! Bethesda's keeping up the tradition + more!

  • @22Lucid People started buying the crap they offer to us. And now it's all graphics and no brains into a decent storyline or great pieces of music. They have all graphics ready on an engine so most of games don't take much effort to make. And why won't they put the work on the important stuff? Because people don't make it sound important to their pockets. And that's all that matters nowadays. Sadly. The world, even the gaming world is corrupted.

  • @22Lucid well, bethesda went on to make oblivion, fallout 3, and now skyrim; all game of the years (skyrim is not official yet, but i think its pretty obvious). square enix fell of the radar with two less than stellar final fantasy releases with low quality gameplay. aside from what the 1/4th of the world that is retarded would want you to believe, good games ARE still being made, just look at the metal gear solid series, half life 2, mother 3, shadow of the colossus, portal, etc.

  • @arkwrestling145 Skyrim's won several GOTY awards now, but you make a good point.

  • @22Lucid: They ran out of ideas. They only care about money. They are a bunch of sad pricks. No effort whatsoever in storylines, let alone music. It's all about eye candy now, which tries to sugar coat empty products. May work on noobs, but I can see right thru it.

  • @22Lucid exactly. This is art. The rest of the world has got to realize that games like this are the highest form of art we now possess as humans. It's not just a 'game'. It's another universe contained in an optical disc.

  • @22Lucid I personally blame motion controls and 3-D effects. More shimmer and less impact sells more games to the idiot community.

  • @22Lucid

Long story short, people went from making games because they loved them to making games because it's profitable, or were forced to do so by greedy publishers.

  • @22Lucid it's gotten lazy. everyone wanting top end graphics but sucky story writing, DLC fads. What I wouldn't give to go back like 10-15 years and bring these games back now and show everyone this is what a beautiful game is

  • @22Lucid Wonderful games are still out there, they are just in such few numbers now. :[ With Morrowind there's Skyrim now and Mass Effect is a fantastic game. Although Chrono Cross, The Final Fantasy's and Xenogears/Xenosaga win my heart. there are a few newer games that rank up there with them, just in a different way. :]

  • i think it sounds even more beautifull if you close your eyes ^-^

  • Very cool OP...

  • @Nowheremovies not this time, this song is just to awesome

  • Its amazing that someone acturally disliked this of all things, its an amazing song.

Sent chills down my spine every time there was a slight change somewhere in it.

  • As far as i know, the starting of this song is the same as the sounds of the elements you use in series to defeat The Time Devourer...

  • God bless Squaresoft for this game and kill squareenix for drop this saga

  • Chrono Cross is such an epic game that it doesnt need any continuation.

  • may you continue to live on, though his not there physically but i know he lives in your heart, and he will always be and forever be you watching you. God bless you...

  • Huh, for some reason this song kind of reminds me of Tower of Heaven's theme.

  • People say a sequel or continuation needs to be made, I dissagree, this game resolved all plot, answered our questions, and gave a solution, although Magus was intented to be Guile, that is one big flop.

But I feel that this game dug very, very deep in all of us, and I really believe that for it to try it for a third time, is simply asking too much, people no longer can appreciate a modern game.

  • I didn't who passed away but today before i heard this music, I found there were many people cried when heard Chrono Cross's music because their friend or who , I sad for them......

  • I didn't who passed away but today before i heard this music, I found there were many people cried when heard Chrono Cross's music, I sad for them......

  • One of the best ending themes ever. 1999 feels so far away, this piece does not.

  • y did they have to make the ending so sad? y did kid have 2 die?

    :[ :[ :[ :[ :[ waaaaaahhhhh!

  • @dangerousvampiregir1 um i dont think kid died. least not in the *true* ending. never gotten the other one, so idk

  • @darkprince909 Oh really? I'll try. Thanks alot!

  • @MrFavorite01 Chrono Trigger was released in 1995. Chrono Cross was released in 2000. *At least in my area. Think it was originally released in Japan in 1999.* Considering Chrono Trigger wasn't released for the DS until 8 years AFTER Chrono Cross, your entire post is irrelevant, and all my points still stand. Enjoy your evening.

  • Come to think of it...in Chrono Trigger, Schala had purple hair. In Chrono Cross, she's a blonde. So we've either discovered that 1000 AD was the start of the bleaching movement, Lavos portals not only alter time, but also dye your hair, or that being imprisoned on Lavos's back inside a crystal not only changes your hair color, but your clothing as well.

  • @TheLordDragonX Your second reason is invalid because of the added ending in Chrono Trigger DS.

  • I know it's not very appropriate but this music sounds a lot like the vomit scene in Team America: World Police.

  • Ahh, a proper chrono cross OST compilation. Thank you my good man.

  • 1:00

I just get goosebumps so bad

  • @ThePlskodniak dude i got it from beginning, don't know why. It is a bit chilly in this room though....

  • @Mifumetal I'm certain it's not even close to good.

  • I had tears of happiness after I activated the Chrono Cross in the end......

  • fantastic! Played CC three times w/ Continue+ now, amazing game... pristine storyline combined with an incredible soundtrack.

  • @GlueStikkk It sounds like the theme of Chrono Trigger.

  • I want this to be my song at my funeral

  • Yellow, red, green, blue, black, white.... Chrono Cross.

  • anyone know if this is on Itunes? If so what is the actual title. I've seen like ten different ones, distant promise, OST, Faraway promise

  • I love chrono cross forever!!! The best game!! 穿越时空最好玩!!!音乐最好听!!!!

  • Best video game music period. Better than Trigger even.

  • @BeachofDreams1988 it'd be hard to describe them with words :P

  • EPIC

  • This song reminds me of my friends. We've been together since we're born, and then, each one went to study somewhere else around the country (I live in Brazil BTW). Each time one parted, I started listening this song in my head and I cried a little bit.

I hope I can meet them again in the future...

  • this reminds me of my dog dad gave it away from a stranger. i wonder if she still knows us but i miss her. i wish i could see her. this time. but i cant she lives somewhere at the mountains or whatever i just miss her im typing this while my tears are falling from my outfit cause everytime i think about her tears appears on my eyes So please i just want her back.! that's all i need since im 3 years old shes here when im 6 she's already gone. nothing can make me happy but my dog. :((

  • @adrenaline220 Is there any way to find and visit her?

  • @adrenaline220 Sorry if there's not, I just want to help. Either way I'm sure she loves you and you'll see her again someday :) Don't give up hope, my friend.

  • I can't help tearing up when I listen to this song (lol nerd I know). I listened to this song fully for the first time around when my father died. I left my earphones in accidentally when I was drifting off to sleep, and it woke me up. Like half of the comments on this submission, I have a slew of emotions going through my head. I think of struggle, life, death, fragility, happiness, warmth, strength... The composers put so much heart into this particular track. I love it.

  • @beaucerdog Nah, nothing nerdish about it. This track is beautiful.

  • I wish Yasunori Mitsuda composed soundtracks up to the level of his first 3 soundtracks. Don't get me wrong, he's still fantastic, but he doesn't carry the same emotion in his most recent music. Maybe because he hasn't done a really high profile title in a while....who knows.

  • Yellow. Red. Green. Blue. Black. White. Seventh.

  • If you need a song to describe the word Life, this is it.

My god I know my number one VGM song now.

  • 2 dislikes? I don't know what to say, they misclicked the button or by accidents? Fill me in guys.

  • Very Touhou-like

  • All your hard work, all your effort, all your suffering comes down to this moment. You use your hardships and struggles as momentum to destroy the Time Devourer and set Schala free. At last... at long last, the threat is over! Schala is freed and the last remnant of Lavos is gone forever! ...(hits reset button)... Again! Again!

  • A legend like this game does not need fancy graphic and cheesy love story. It's perfect as it is, I hope they don't make a cheap sequel or remake that would ruin the franchise like they did on FF 7.

  • Ok, who ever disliked this clearly has no taste in music. Neither do they have a life. ):

    This song is just absolutely amazing and wonderful...how can you not like this!? ;w;

  • @YosukeHanamurasLOVE Don't focus on that now. Just listen ;)

  • i wish they could make a new chrono cross for PS3 but im afraid it might ruin the absolute best original piece of it. it's just amazing music and amazing story! it's worth it!

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds like Radical Dreamers.

  • older games may have had worse graphics, but way more heart and for those who see this gain an exponentionaly greater understanding of video games and the impact that they have on all of our lives today and yes even when we get much older.............nostalgia 4 life.......

  • @youmydumdum TROLL... you not have "LIFE"

  • @youmydumdum you bastard!

  • @youmydumdum buy a brain and a heart dude

  • @youmydumdum lol more like "reply" to "Spam" lol =P

  • I remember bursting into tears when I released Scala from her prison and I heard this song in the background. Hey, I was only nine. But then this weird PSA speech came from Schala telling me that humans are bad, nature is good. Okay Scala, I get it. Wasn't the drastic Gnome-Fairy level subtle enough? Geez, gimme a break.

  • Conflicting emotions of remorse, relief, regret, victory, shock, and mystery all create this masterful song. It is purely a masterpiece of emotional appeal. Mitsuda composed one of his best here.

  • Proof that music is indeed a very powerful weapon. God this is beautiful... I love this music so much. I wish they played this when fighting Lavos and Schala and not just the silence...it would have set the mood so much better.

I swear, no matter how many times I hear this, it brings me to tears. It's so beautiful. There are no words to describe how amazing and powerful this song is. I love it ~

  • Quite simply, this is the Chrono Trigger Theme with Schala's melody in and out, then completely orchestrated. Truly Magnificent

  • every song from the soundtrack gives me goosebumps because it sooo good

    Chrono Cross FTW

  • No dislikes ftw!

  • this song is so beautiful and im so lucky to have played this game when i was younger, its one of my most fav games of all time and i beat it yearly to remind me how awesome and legendary this game is.

  • @Johnnycpublic That sounds awesome :)

  • @6robyc yea dude love that game

    just downloaded the whole soundtrack

  • This song makes me think of death, not life. My own ultimate death and the "nonexistence vs eternity" paradox that's actually uncomfortable to think about too deeply. The fact that as of now we are only aware of finite existence makes it difficult to fathom what it's like to not exist anymore or to keep on existing forever.

  • One word describes this Song EPIC!

  • Mitsuda - The apprentice

    Uematsu - The Master

The two greatest video game composers ever.

    Period.

  • @jr276743 In my opinion Mitsuda went sith style and overtook the master. Then again, FFIII....

  • i love this song <3

  • :')

It's so... this is the best VGM i have ever heard in my life.

After Crono's party failed to do so you finally free schala.

I cannot describe the vgm or how it fits the situation in words.

To bad the song sucks ass after 6:37

  • @untouch59 (scrolls to 6:36) wait.... lmao! yes!

  • there are a few songs on this soundtrack I do not like

  • 2:48-3:32 is epic and my favorite part

  • @Sasuke4ever666 hey buddie, i may not know you, but i'm sorry about your friend, i never lost any of my, so i don't know how it is to you..good luck on your life brow.

  • @TheShiroShini I'm a girl, heh... But thank you, It means a lot.

  • @Sasuke4ever666 ops, sorry about that ;o

  • @xxDarkXOmegaxDragonX What's the matter? Jealous you don't have friends or a lovable family?

  • @RetroChris15 good point ;d

  • @Sasuke4ever666

How? My boyfriend died not to long ago from cancer which is why I'm making a playlist on these songs because he loved them so much. They were his favorites.

  • @dangerousvampiregir1

I am sorry to hear about your boyfriend's passing. May he find rest.

  • @starocean912 Thank you. He actually just proposed to me. Then he passed. These songs give me hope. They're all I count on to keep his memory alive now.

  • Oh come on, can't this game have ANY dark, violent soundtracks?

  • Ah, good ol youtube, to have this much beauty at my fingertips is a luxury i would not soon give up

  • It touch my heart, I don' t know, just listening to this, and thinking about the Time Devourer, and all being swallowed and forgotten, its all so sad, but beautiful at the same time if you think there is hope. :D

  • I'm so angry with chrono cross right now errrg!!!! I want to listen to every song because they are all fantastic but thats completely impossible and i just end up clicking on another song that i want to listen to like 30 seconds into the song but i don't want it to end but i have to here something eles!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS MUSIC IS AWESOME!!!!! And also without the music i would give the game a 3 out of 5 but with the music I give it a 11 out of 5 because I think the music makes the game.

  • I would love to see an remake of chrono cross!! it would be great!!

  • When I finally listened to this track after all these years, my tears just keeps flowing out I couldn't stop it. It really gave me the chills, especially from 1:00 onwards, that part just made me travel back in time to when I freed Schala and saw the ending for the first time. That feeling was just awesome. I might forget about this game someday in the future but I really am glad I had the chance to play it.

  • inspiration....

  • I remember the days when I used to play this game .. I used to get so lost into it that I sometimes did forget that I was living in reality instead of this game

Best game Best music Best everything ! :]

  • @Lithiumatron Indeed. Chrono Cross is truly perfection incarnate.

  • I think there were always intentions to draw connections between CT and CC with its music. Tons to be implied by the structures of the songs. Love this soundtrack. It's my homework buddy most of the time.

  • @tomybelle my homework buddy. I totally get it.

Thanks for putting it to words.

  • I don't think u tube will remove the music, they usually don't care about game music.

  • They need to Remake this game for the PS3 or 360 or Wii or heck for ALL systems and Remaster the Soundtrack! This is too amazing!

The Best RPG ever! Chrono Cross!

    Great, now you've ruined it.

  • This is the best squaresoft rpg made IMO.

  • if you listen closely you will find out that its the song radical dreamers just toned down with no lyrics and a tiny bit slower

  • Yes, i could see that before you told me. u-u

  • if you listen carefully you will begin to understand the mysterious of the universe

  • Who in the fuck would have thought to come up with the method to this ending? Maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention, though I do remember when it was hinted at.

  • There were tonns of small hints that most people wouldnt have noticed in the first run.
