The 5-ball was your problem ball, and you needed to get on it quick. You had great position on the 6-ball to do so, but you let the cue ball roll a little too far.
The 8-ball saved your bacon. If you hadn't run into it, you would have been out of position on the 7-ball. You could have still made the shot, but would had to figure out how to get shape on the 5-ball.
Nice little stun-draw on the 5-ball to get straight in on the 8!
That is how you shoot pool man! Any skilled player doesn't need to stand there for a minute on each shot. It just comes natural. Check out my video, I would have cleared in under a minute but had a couple bad leaves leading up to the eight ball and couldn't get my leave. To those who think the pockets are wide... most tables you can fit two balls into at once. We aren't pros.

8 ball balls, but the table is 9 ball, with huge pockets. still very nice self made table though....
