Wow, awesome video, truly brings this beautiful song to new life. So well sung and choreographed, I can't even imagine how many hours of practice (much less editing) that took. The enthusiasm of each performer, was easily felt. Makes the song much more accessible to a younger generation. Five stars.
@ikeboy Thank you so much for the positive feedback and recognizing all the hard work the cast and crew put in. The video was choreographed by the brilliant Maria Colaco.
good song, the singer does a great job acting out the song. The only thing i don't like about the song in any version that ive heard is how crazy it gets about half way through.
I think you girls fuckin kicked ass!!! Awesome video and cover of a great song!!! You made this song fun and attractive to a younger audience. Don't listen to old bastards telling you that your version misses the point. The point is..if you get it..you get it..if you don't.. well you still had fun watching and listening. Bravo!
A more "Logical" video would be to satirize social media like Twitter or facebook that really change our way of thinking so we have to conform to expressing our lives within their format.
Who can think deeply about a subject or express any meaningful comments on a subject when they are restricted to 140 characters or whatever it is.
Ok. Sure brevity is appealing. But i think the regular use of that way of thinking creates a habit of not thinking beyond the superficial.
"By subscribing to a dictum of no excuses, KIPP essentially puts the onus on the victims of poverty and institutional racism. This clearly conveys the fallacy to urban students that failure in this society will solely be a reflection of not working long and hard enough, or simply not complying with rules set by those with authority." -- Brian Lack, Journal for Critical Education Policy Studies vol. 7, no. 2
I retract my earlier comment somewhat. I didn't notice the "Work Hard. Be Nice" slogan in the background before. For those who don't know, that is the slogan of KIPP (the Knowledge Is Power Program), a nationwide chain of charter schools many have criticized for creating an oppressive environment, and for only accepting kids and families who demonstrate absolute compliance at all times. This lends more context.
I question your message here. I think you've gotten it backwards. In today's society, the kids who just want to have a good time all the time are the conformists. The kids who are actually interested in learning and thinking are the ones being true to themselves--- and are fewer and farther between. The message of Hodgson's song isn't "ditch school and have fun," it's "think for yourself." I don't see anybody thinking for herself in this video, just following a new leader.

what do YOU think?
Schmeng7 4 months ago
I think this video starts well but then misses the point of the song;
The song is about losing your identity through conformity.
Now although that can happen in school or any institution it doesn't mean learning Math is bad for you or that school is bad for you.
It means just becoming a thoughtless conformist is bad for you.
Because schools could be places where we teach people to be open minded and how to think for themselves.
So it's not the school it's the way the school is used .
