Yeah this is a very below bacharach quality tune,,, the Lyric has something to say. If you listen to this version just listen to Barbra's incredible voice. If you want to feel a great interpretation of the lyric then bring up Laura Nyro.
What a terrible song. the lyrics are great and meaningful, but the melody is disgusting. Even Barbra can't make this a nice song. Horrible , it just rambles and the keynotes change into very undesireable sounding notes.
@pizzorno So sweet! I dare to say thank you as I had nothing to do with this but posting it. but thank you for sharing a tear. What I WOULD KILL TO FIND is her Since I Fell For You studio session video. You MAY have noticed I posted an audio slide show of ten minutes of the session but I HEAR it was filmed!!! I don't know if I could survive WATCHING her sing Since I Fell, as hearing it is enough to make me lose it even after all these years. SEEING her knock that bridge out of the park ...WOW!
@KJBigBelter Couldn't agree more with everything you just wrote. What a pleasure read the words you wrote about her. What a pleasure for me being here watching your posts. thanks a lot!
we know where bacharach and hal david dreamed up their misguided attempt to make "lost horizon" into a musical. this song is so bad, so foregetable. no wonder streisand wouldn't agree to appear in "lost horizon." she saw the disaster coming.
@tearmann This is actually a very good song. The music in Lost Horizon is excellent. The songs Reflections, Lost Horizon, Question me an answer, Living Together are great. Others like The world is a circle and The things that I will not miss are very good too.
The lyrics may be relevant, but unfortunately that isn't merely what makes a good song.....this has a forgetful, rambling melody....THAT is probably why she never recorded it: it is a rather droll song!
@eldiran2 GOOD CALL. I LOVE it because this to ME is when her voice was unstoppable. Sorry I WIDESCREENED this video, making he chubby when she was actually stunning physically. I WONDER if the SET was just for her? OR a recycle from an ABBA or BEEGEES special? lol I LOVE IT TOO!
@eldiran2 Streisand so didin't record it because the song was originally written with Warick in mind, and at the time of this TV special, the song was in the shelving period since it's finished after Warick had released her recent album. So the song had to wait for the next Warick album. And during this interval, Bacharach, who wasn't unaware of the gravity of the occasion, just think of Lady GaGa and Sandra Bullock combined, couldn't control himself but to give the premiere to Streisand.
Barbra Streisand is the greatest, my favorite singer of all time since back in 1964 when I first heard "People" . This performance and her duet with herself (A House Is Not a Home/One Less Bell to Answer) were the reasons this Bert Bacharach Special won the Emmy for best variety show. Wonderfull performance, great lyrics make this song a classic. Never recorded, thank you so much for posting. Magnificent!!!
This must have been a labor of love for Barbra because there was no way this song was ever going to chart. It had no hook and the tempo changes constantly and is punctuated with silent pauses. It's a difficult song to sing, as she recorded it, and it just didn't fit into the contemporary mode for that time. But it's a beautiful song and she completely nails it. I'm glad it's here.
@luigy39 oh I bet she can still sing this song and she should! somebody call her and tell her please!! this great work of art has to be on her next album!!! <3
Of course, it's Burt Bacharach at the piano and also conducting. It's a mystery to me why Barbra Streisand never recorded this. Thankfully we have Dionne Warwick's excellent version from her 1972album 'Dionne' and Laura Nyro's posthumously released version on 'Angel in the Dark'.
beautiful, the greatest voice ever. responding to osvaldoe's comment, I really wish she would but could she? I don't think Barbra is at a point where she could belt this kind of songs any more.
This is absolutely a gem!!! I had never heard or seen this before........ as always, I am FLOORED with her presence and talent! What a beautiful audio and video to have!!! Barbra, you are, and always have been... INCREDIBLE...
How very true. Her musical interpretation is remarkable and her voice beyond reproach. You are so right .... that's when music was music and this is exactly what singing is all about. How great!
I just have to let you know that this is one of my favorite Barbra videos. Thank you so much for loading this. Do you have more of this special evening?
Worlds would collide! Planets crashing into each other! Entire solar systems ripped apart causing astronomical destruction that hasn't been seen in a billion universal lifetimes! I would fall to my knees and weep in sweet pathos of the wonder that I once felt, watching snow flakes melt as a child! Especially if she sang it as Katie Morosky.
Barbra has recorded many songs which were not written for her; she's even recorded songs she came across on her car radio. I don't know why she is so often painted as some aloof far away deity. She has always been very immersed in life and people and ideas and questions to be answered. Her music shows just that.
I love Barbara

Tasteful fashion for the 70's. Style-wise, with a tweak to the hair, this would work today.

It's true that her voice is brilliant- and yet it is more than the voice. It is that she has unbelievable presence.

Perhaps Barbara never record it,
Because it meant more to her, than
we realized.
Burt B. wrote it just for her and it was
probably had lost of Personal meaning.
