Tibet has rich water resources (to generate electricity) and mining resources. Good points. I don't think Tibetan independence will work well for the Tibetan people either. At the same time, I think as Chinese, we need to face up to the fact that we are not very culturally aware, especially compared to western nations. Even though the central gov't has tried to do a lot, Tibetans and other minorities still face a lot of social and cultural discrimination, and lack of economic opportunities. The root problems of Tibetan dissatisfaction needs to be resolved.

For the last 50 years tibetans have been protesting every year on march 10 . Mostly in India because that where majority of exile tibetans lived ans still live and so there wasnt much publicity. . And every year we hoped that teh chinese govt would be sincere in their talks with our exile reps and everytime they fooled us.

I'm a Tibetan and I have been to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's teachings and His holiness has always said to treat Chinese people as our brothers and sisters since we (Tibet and china) will have to be neighbors after freedom has been achieved. I also agree that some of the angry frustrated Tibetans have ignored His Holiness advice of peaceful methods and have chosen more violent paths to gain freedom.

Well I guess that is where our opinion differs. I find it odd how you say it is "common for Americans to force their ideology onto other countries" (which is quite true, for example Iraq). And yet that is exactly what China has done - Taken their ideology of rule without religious authority. In fact I don't think that government should be religiously based: it should be secular. But that's not my place to tell Tibet. China (in my opinion) had no right in taking the Dalai Lama's position away.

Good points. I don't think Tibetan independence will work well for the Tibetan people either. At the same time, I think as Chinese, we need to face up to the fact that we are not very culturally aware, especially compared to western nations. Even though the central gov't has tried to do a lot, Tibetans and other minorities still face a lot of social and cultural discrimination, and lack of economic opportunities. The root problems of Tibetan dissatisfaction needs to be resolved.

Pre-modern and modern Tibet engaged in many offensive campaigns against its neighbors, all of them sanctioned by Dalai Lamas. Domestically, too. Political rivalries were often settled by assassination. The historical record unequivocally contradicts the image of a Dalai Lama preaching or practicing nonviolence.

The money allocated for the resistance movement was spent on training volunteers and paying for guerrilla operations against the Chinese, the Tibetan government-in-exile said in a statement.

Tibetan Buddhist monks are marching on the streets of London, Geneva, and NY to protest against Lalais religious dictatorship. Millions of overseas Chinese, along with their western supporters volunteered to protect the Olympic frame from Free Tibet disruptions. In the west, the media coverage of these events was minimal, if not non-existent.

For the last 50 years tibetans have been protesting every year on march 10 . Mostly in India because that where majority of exile tibetans lived ans still live and so there wasnt much publicity. . And every year we hoped that teh chinese govt would be sincere in their talks with our exile reps and everytime they fooled us.

Firstly, where did you get all these information from? I'm a Tibetan and I have been to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's teachings and His holiness has always said to treat Chinese people as our brothers and sisters since we (Tibet and china) will have to be neighbors after freedom has been achieved. I also agree that some of the angry frustrated Tibetans have ignored His Holiness advice of peaceful methods and have chosen more violent paths to gain freedom.

Well I guess that is where our opinion differs. I find it odd how you say it is "common for Americans to force their ideology onto other countries" (which is quite true, for example Iraq). And yet that is exactly what China has done - Taken their ideology of rule without religious authority. In fact I don't think that government should be religiously based: it should be secular. But that's not my place to tell Tibet. China (in my opinion) had no right in taking the Dalai Lama's position away.

Thank you for the logical outlook on the situation. I agreed with some things you said, (and yes the media has made a biased favoritism towards Tibet) But I was scared by when you asked if Tibet would be better off with freedom. That is completely irrevelant to basic human rights of freedom. As an American perhaps I feel more strongly about this than others. But if I were a Tibetan I'd rather give up the Chinese government welfare for freedom . Give me LIBERTY or GIVE ME DEATH!

Isn't it just common for americans to force their ideology onto other countries. If by liberty you mean a home, education, jobs, and medi-care then they already have it. Unless you are completely ignorant to the history during dalai lama's rule, you wouldn't call what they used to have liberty. It was more like slavery. So really what you're saying is: Give tibetan people back its religious ruling class and reduce them to slaves, or give them death.
