This is exactly the sort of battle theme you'd get in an old Final Fantasy or similar - and bear in mind that all of those games, unlike this one, employed a professional composer.

CStW is a good trend for JRPGs I think - shorter but still entertaining games. I felt absolutely -refreshed- after playing through it and BoVDVII before it because the games were just so quick and punchy, although CStW was longer in a good way compared to BoDVII which was IMHO a wee bit too short.
