Tabarnak!!!!

  • music a not apropriat

  • my cottage is just up the road from there

  • Glad you got the joke! unlike some of the comments here...

  • lol i should add, "the fact that they BELIEVE I am going to hell" lol my bad, i deleted that part cuz of the character cap limit

  • Christians don't realize that throwing around threats of hell pushes me and people like me further and further AWAY from Christianity, you will never win me over with your fear-mongering...and it always amazes me how the self-righteous people who do that are so smug and happy in the fact that i am going to hell. this is why I am a Buddhist and will remain a Buddhist. btw I agree with Zencat, I don't think Buddha would mind this video at all hehe kids will be kids and I'm sure he knows that

  • Speaking as a "serious Buddhist", I highly doubt the Venerable One would have a problem with children being children, or even adults being playful around a bunch of statues! When I prostrate at a statue, it is not the statue that I prostrate to!

  • However, if the images especially the Buddha images, whether they are in the main temple hall or outdoor, it is better out of respect and decency,to avoid such behavior. May you be well and happy!

  • But it appears to me that the monastery has created a outdoor Buddhhist theme park with some intersting statues. If the images are not for praying to with offering of flowers and incense (Puja) and I think it should be alright for the children or even adults to enjoy themselves with the statues, as long as these acts are done in good fun and not insulting or in ridicules.

  • Buddha images are objects of reverence because they remind us of the Enlightened one and His teachings and the monk community (The Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha).

  • Buddha was only a man NOT A GOD, the holy bible is what them people need to learn. Buddha is NOT a temple, i would let my kids play on it if it was aloud, the people that r in to Buddha needs to know that God above is the only on, theres going to be a lot of people being left behind, i have no respect for no other other god then our God the father and the lord thats real, praise God , he is so good,

  • Buddhists IS NOT A GOD,

  • Buddhists is NOT A GOD, GET A LIFE, THE HOLY BIBLE IS THE REAL TRUE WORD, THERES GOING TO BE A LOT OF PEOPLE GOING TO HELL,

  • Personally, I don't think that the innocence of the children shown climbing onto the statues is a positive thing at all. What a lousy excuse to justify those unthoughtful actions. This is because a temple is a scared place for people to gain enlightenment. There are rules. You want your kids to play? There's a place known as funfair or arcade centres.

  • Beautiful! Love the kids. There is no idolatory in Buddhism or Christianity; the images are symbols of inspiration. The angry guard images here, are the things we have to overcome in ourselves to get the quiet place in the mind. The storm is a natural phenomenon, not the wrath of spirits. Look how the Tibetan monks handled it when a toddler ruined their mandala. They thought nothing, just restarted as part of life. In true Buddhism, only if harm is intended, does someone even think of it

  • when your kids were laying on the buddha like that think of the buddha as jesus if youre christian or what so ever would you be letting your kids do that if he was jesus?! or virgin mary?! or maybe your so called noble god?!

  • Buddhists do not worship statues. If we did, we would be stupid indeed. We have statues to because they represent what each Buddhist should aspire to, the attainment of all virtuous qualities. We do not think that the statues hear our words or partake of our offerings.

  • I know what they worship something that can not speak, hear nor talk.

  • Hi ,

During all my years of going to the temple,I've never seen anyone have so much fun at a temple before. Usually I just see people worship without really knowing or practicing the Buddha's teachings.

This is the first time I've seen anyone act like this at a temple, it is very cute and funny. You're right, Buddha nature can only be found within oneself. I think the Buddha would laugh too if he sees this video.

  • Well I can understand your position but let me ask you, would you allow the children to climb on the statues in the main shrine hall? Also, it's not about any damage but more of the respect one should show. Anyway, like someone said, the temple itself is not a playground; the park may be, but the temple itself should be kept quiet and calm.

  • I wish I had not seen this video.

  • why worship something that can not speak nor hear. odd

  • I am a Buddhist. Please be respectful! Such acts in Sri Lanka or Thailand would result in arrest. You cannot speak for the Buddha. Children could not climb around on statues in Churches or Synogogues. It is a matter of respect.

  • I have added an apology that you can read in full in the video description: "Our apologies to the monastery for letting the kids climb on the statues. As outdoor works of art, it did not occur to us at the time that we might damage them. .... I think it is also a positive thing that the innocence of the children in climbing on the statues for fun challenges the belief held by some adults, that playfulness is incompatible with reverence for the awakened one."

  • You should apologize to the Buddhist monastery. Apologizing to the YouTube audience isn't the same.

By the way the child who "meditated" on the Buddha is a sign of disrespect. Your children's shoe prints are all over the statues. -_-

  • Wanting to be photographed with a statue is a sign of respect and attachment to the statue. I would save the police for people who want to deliberately cause damage to property, and this was obviously not the case. The children do not have your upbringing, and your way of venerating these symbols. Religion should not breed intolerance of other peoples' behaviour.

  • If I was a Christian, I don't think I would be okay with children climbing on Christian idols. At the very least they are works of art and we do not touch art works in museums, or churches. It is inappropiate behaviour, unless this area was designated to be a playground.

  • Look in the eyes of the children, and you will see more Buddha nature in them than in the statues, which are only pieces of stone. They are works of art and beautiful, but not as beautiful as the playful children. I think Buddha would have been very happy to have children climbing into his arms. The important Buddha is the one in you, not the statue. Please lighten up!

  • These are not statues in an art gallery. They are outdoors in what resembles a park. I have had my picture taken with statues in a park before, and there was no question of respect or disrespect. In fact, why should a monastery not be a playground? The family that plays together, prays together...

  • The kids were being playful and I think it was okay to climb on some of the statues, but climbing on the statues of the Lord Buddha was disrespectful. How would you like it if I climbed on the Pieta in the Vatican?

  • If Christians are ok with that, then I'd like to do the same to Christian idols and images.

  • They were playing around. But, Im not so surprised what they did. But in the end, the storm come. which spirtual is getting upset.

  • It is a beautiful temple. Can you post the location of the temple?. I would like to visit someday. Thanks

  • Wow! It's like playland at McDonald's! If you let your kids climb on statues like that in Thailand, you would likely get thrown out of the country. After seeing this video, I can now understand why people would be offended by that kind of behavior.

  • It is true that today's "religions" promote seriousness rather than playfulness. However, the essence of spirituality is to reconnnect with our own childlike innocence of the heart, not with the adult seriousness of the mind. I have no problem with seeing the kids playing on the statues, in any case it is sure that they meant no offense to anyone.

  • wow very nice temple..what do they practice there do you know? It would be lovely if you can show the inside of the meditation/chanting hall.

  • Actually, the scene where there are hundreds and hundreds of little buddhas lined up on the walls is one of the meditation/chanting halls, but I don't have details on their practice. I guess its whatever Vietnamese Buddhists do.
