using only reason live is quite difficult or not that flexible...he might be using it via rewire.

first run ableton, when it loads succesfully, open reason. in the first machine (in reason) ull see the rewire hard. the display will show "rewire slave mode". now the reason's sound will pass trought ableton live. u have to check the "exit in" in ableton in an audio channel and select there "reason" option.
