I'm starting to hate this mythic rarity right now. What we all know is that mythic rarity is usually for legendary creatures, timmy cards, planeswalkers. But the 2cc cards? I know, I know, like Evan said, never underestimate the power of the Wizards R & D. Baneslayer Angel must be legendary, and those 2cc cards must be too.
I ask myself why they printed her, honor of the pure, and a new Savannah lions. Lightning Bolt isn't tipping the power level compared to what baneslayer does.
Believe it or not, the playmat went through about a dozen iterations before the final design. We went crazy busy, and finally ended up with something more functional, 'open', and elegant that has all five colors of Magic while also featuring the logo.
Heh, my friends call Kalitas the "Bloodchief of 'Get'." Because he effectively "gets" creatures.
Also, I really like Archive Trap because it's great in Limited. It has a huge chance of milling away your opponent's one big creature or winning spell.
And as for Halo Hunter, my initial reaction went like this: "Oh look, an answer to Banesl- No wait, it's a Demon. Neeeeever mind, false alarm."
Personally, I think this set is going to make Manabarbs a lot better, since it forces your opponent to think twice about tapping all of those lands they're getting.
I've been hearing people say that this set is going to be known as the new Urza's block, with all of its ridiculousness. While we still haven't seen the other half of the set yet, it's really starting to look like Urza's 2.0.
Cards are rarely strictly better than other, similar cards, even if just in corner cases. Keep Needlebite Trap in mind when you compare the lifegain lands to the invasion lands - the 1 life isn't a may effect.
Well yeah, but the term "strictly better" tends to be used only taking into account the cards themselves - after all, are you REALLY going to play Shock over Lightning Bolt, "just in case" your opponent has some sort of Shunt effect?

I wouldn't set that expectation very high. Lotus Cobra is like Baneslayer Angel -- a foolproof insurance policy that the set will fly off of the shelves. Wizards has to make money, and frankly I don't have a problem w/that.
World Queller is better then you think, many people are thinking right now that you are bound to sacrifice something, but that is not true, you can just call the card type that is almost never on the field... Tribal.
205.2a The card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, planeswalker, sorcery, and tribal.

The Spell Pierce out of nowhere countering the Turn 3 Ultimatum made me really laugh out loud because all I could see is the Lotus Cobra player's face when he gets dreamcrushed.
Killer two drops will dictate the metagame. That means people will HAVE to pack lots of spot removal, and that means some creatureless combo deck is bound to have success.

with the rules change is not that big of a deal. its basically back to the first rules when the game was first out. the rules changes mainly impacts "damage on the stack". now you just have to be a better player and use your brain. alot of ppl told me that they're quitting magic because of the rules change. well next FNM i'm playin against them. The reason nodoby is looking at his first ability is because fear is nothing special. Also i like that Halo Hunter and Borgarden hellkite exist so the baneslayer angel's protection from demons and dragons will actualy mater.

So, let me run with this.
Turn 1) Green mana drop straight into Scute Mob.
Turn 2) Green mana drop straight into Lotus Cobra.
Turn 3) Green mana drop, 3 mana, no wait 4 FREAKING MANA, into Oracle of Mul Daya. Then drop another land, reveal the top card of your library and pray it's a land.
if it's truly supply vs. demand, the lower supply means higher prices here, but it also means the dealers will get their hands on fewer (I mean, since there were fewer printed).
I haven't taken an econ class or anything, though. Is there some kind of more quadratic-like formula for prices like these? As supply goes down (due to mythics) prices grow exponentially?
If a seller sells them for twice as much as you'd expect for a rare, a mythic is twice as rare... I fail to see how that's unfair.
it's nuts, most combos that bring out large doods sac a lot to get it out and usually have no more gas once the big guy is out, but in this situation there's no lost gas, it's par for the course .... they kill your baneslayer and you're still curving out as normal

Absolutely no way the Combra should be mythic. It doesn't have a unique or special ability (just using the set's main keyword to perform one of the most basic actions in the game), it doesn't have an awesome, epic feeling beyond its power, it's not particularly game-breaking in limited...there is absolutely no reason for the Cobra to be mythic. None.
The only justification I can think of as to why Lotus Cobra is mythic is that it has "Lotus" in its name. Considering the history of Magic, it's not actually bad reasoning - as such, I semi-agree with the Cobra's rarity. Warren Instigator and Mindfall Trap, however, definitely shouldn't be mythic.

You don't need Harrow to play Ultimatum on turn 3.
Play your second Fetchland (1 Mana)
Fetch 2 times (3 Mana)
Tap your 3 lands (6 Mana)
Tap Noble Hierarch (7 Mana)
You included Harrow for an additional mana, because you forgot to untap your basic forest. ^^

Cards are rarely strictly better than other, similar cards, even if just in corner cases. Keep Needlebite Trap in mind when you compare the lifegain lands to the invasion lands - the 1 life isn't a may effect.

Well yeah, but the term "strictly better" tends to be used only taking into account the cards themselves - after all, are you REALLY going to play Shock over Lightning Bolt, "just in case" your opponent has some sort of Shunt effect?

I wouldn't set that expectation very high. Lotus Cobra is like Baneslayer Angel -- a foolproof insurance policy that the set will fly off of the shelves. Wizards has to make money, and frankly I don't have a problem w/that.

Killer two drops will dictate the metagame. That means people will HAVE to pack lots of spot removal, and that means some creatureless combo deck is bound to have success.

with the rules change is not that big of a deal. its basically back to the first rules when the game was first out. the rules changes mainly impacts "damage on the stack". now you just have to be a better player and use your brain. alot of ppl told me that they're quitting magic because of the rules change. well next FNM i'm playin against them. MTG is the "crack" of card games next to poker.

if it's truly supply vs. demand, the lower supply means higher prices here, but it also means the dealers will get their hands on fewer (I mean, since there were fewer printed).
I haven't taken an econ class or anything, though. Is there some kind of more quadratic-like formula for prices like these? As supply goes down (due to mythics) prices grow exponentially?
If a seller sells them for twice as much as you'd expect for a rare, a mythic is twice as rare... I fail to see how that's unfair.

it's nuts, most combos that bring out large doods sac a lot to get it out and usually have no more gas once the big guy is out, but in this situation there's no lost gas, it's par for the course .... they kill your baneslayer and you're still curving out as normal

Absolutely no way the Combra should be mythic. It doesn't have a unique or special ability (just using the set's main keyword to perform one of the most basic actions in the game), it doesn't have an awesome, epic feeling beyond its power, it's not particularly game-breaking in limited...there is absolutely no reason for the Cobra to be mythic. None.

The only justification I can think of as to why Lotus Cobra is mythic is that it has "Lotus" in its name. Considering the history of Magic, it's not actually bad reasoning - as such, I semi-agree with the Cobra's rarity. Warren Instigator and Mindfall Trap, however, definitely shouldn't be mythic.
