I watched Big Daddy many times at Alamo Dragway in SA. Tx and then sat at a table next to him and his crew at Don Pedro's at 1AM for Mexican food, a favorite place back in the 70's for racers to eat good food after the drags.
During the tune up he used to hold his hand about 3 Ft above each pipe, feeling the power of each cylinder as they cracked the throttle. No computer BS. Just raw talent.
It makes no difference who holds the current record, Don Garlits is still the man.

Listen close when he stabs the throttle. When the blower whirrs down. Garlits engines sound like no others. Motor sounds crisp.
