I doubted he was drunk too but on a concert here in iceland coupla years ago he said ' I can't do this song wihtout being drunk ' and commented on ' how lightweight he is and it's awkward how little alchohol he needs '

I believe it's a little of both in this case, as you can see he is actually drinking but I doubt he's that drunk he's probably a little tipsy and acting aswell, he's amazing.

I am a long time lover of Damien Rice, but I have to say that being an "artist" isn't acting. Being truly drunk on stage would have made this piece so much deeper with visual angst and pain. If he's faking, he's ruined the song and that's incredibly disappointing.

I don't know the story behind the song, but for me it looks like it's about somone who has been left, than pretended he is okay, now turned to drinking and while drunk it shows that since the end of the relationship he has been a total wreck, and still can't stop thinking of his "darling". Than again i don't know more than what i imagine for this song, so don't take my words, this is just my point of view, which makes it the saddest and most brilliant song ever written.

I love this performance, but I think i'ts a bit ashamed that he's acting. I mean if he had done that only once and if he had been really drunk, it would have been one of the greatest, the deepest and the most beautiful performance I would have ever seen in ma life. He's a better musician than he is an actor, but it's still really cool that he would even do this. Most musical artists couldn't even step to this level of storytelling. I love this song, it's one of my favorite by Damien Rice. It's kind of annoying though when people laugh and snicker at it. It's a very deep and troubled song. I don't feel like it's something that should be taken lightly.

That's my opinion though.
