I cannot understand the unrespectful public that cheers before de song is over, nor the laughs. Dya really think is funny? Nope. You're ruining somebody's moment while they're listening to the song (during the concert i mean).
Absolutely genius.. Im going through a separation right now with the love of my life. And this song is what makes my days go around.. I can relate to every single word in the lyrics and the music is exactly how my feelings would sound if they could talk.
I doubted he was drunk too but on a concert here in iceland coupla years ago he said ' I can't do this song wihtout being drunk ' and commented on ' how lightweight he is and it's awkward how little alchohol he needs '
I believe it's a little of both in this case, as you can see he is actually drinking but I doubt he's that drunk he's probably a little tipsy and acting aswell, he's amazing.
I am a long time lover of Damien Rice, but I have to say that being an "artist" isn't acting. Being truly drunk on stage would have made this piece so much deeper with visual angst and pain. If he's faking, he's ruined the song and that's incredibly disappointing.
I don't know the story behind the song, but for me it looks like it's about somone who has been left, than pretended he is okay, now turned to drinking and while drunk it shows that since the end of the relationship he has been a total wreck, and still can't stop thinking of his "darling". Than again i don't know more than what i imagine for this song, so don't take my words, this is just my point of view, which makes it the saddest and most brilliant song ever written.
@JaRickk a man bumps into a beautiful woman at a bar, she asks if he wants to have a drink the man, of course, says yes. They talk and talk, and then he asks if she wants another drink, she, surprisingly to the man, says yes. The talk and talk, and drink and drink, and before they know it it its quarter 'til twelve, he yells "Shit, you're gonna miss the bus", and she said, "No, its fine, my boyfriend is picking me up". The man is shattered, he stumbles home and writes this song.
I love this performance, but I think i'ts a bit ashamed that he's acting. I mean if he had done that only once and if he had been really drunk, it would have been one of the greatest, the deepest and the most beautiful performance I would have ever seen in ma life. I'm still blown away by it though
Sweety.. i love you.. just for the pain you feel........ cheers darlin!...and yes... you should have kissed me in the rain.......Blown away by this performance.......... i love , love , him!!!!!!!!!!!
Great song, recorded it when he got home from the pub one night, it's in the liner notes, sonofabitch recorded the album in his room for chrissakes that's one he'll of a talented man.
Wonderful song
this song works very similar to the song lilac wine. (look for the jeff buckley version) it's not as aggresive and a bit more surreal but has a similar effect
defininitaly (how the hell do you spell it????) this is real poetry. I don't now if he's drunk or not but i kinda hope he he is cause it jusifies the lyrics somehow...
(ok... im drunk right now myself, so don't judge me too much! :-)
is he going down the same path of Morrison. This is the most tragic thing. Now are we supposed to sit around and watch him slowly kill himself? I like Morrison too. Tragic
this song says it all too many times this has happened to me having to pretend to be happy when the one you love loves someone else. The mans a poet and yes I agree this is a very clever act brilliant tho.
i bet in ireland they know a lot about alcoholism...on my vacations in ios i met a few guys from ireland! to be honest they were staying next door...they certainly know how to have fun! i really love irish even if i am miles away! greetings from greece...
i saw his show in KC, missouri, and he did a similar routine. not quite as dramatic as this one, but still well done. i doubt he's actually drunk, but just oh so talented!
hehe "i'll just hang around and eat from a can" - genius lyrics, made me laugh! :D Omg, dont u just wanna throw your arms around him....he's so damn cute when he looks sorry for himself!!!!
Before he even released O any nobody even here in ireland knew him really, I went to see him in a local bar called "The Kings" max of 20 people there and he stood on a bar stool for this song with a pint of Guiness in hand and while he was singing my phone went off and almost ruined it. Then after the show we met his mum and his dog called lucky
Everytime I listen to this song, I see this drunk guy at the stage of a wedding, with a wine glass and cigarette, singing to his ex-wife. Now I see this, it is exactly what I imagined.
I actually got to see him at Radio City Music Hall. And towards the end he started climbing all of the stairs on the side of the stage. It was hysterical. But yeah, funny take on a really really sad song. He's amazing.
He's a better musician than he is an actor, but it's still really cool that he would even do this. Most musical artists couldn't even step to this level of storytelling. I love this song, it's one of my favorite by Damien Rice. It's kind of annoying though when people laugh and snicker at it. It's a very deep and troubled song. I don't feel like it's something that should be taken lightly.

Love the song. Love the artist. Love what he's trying to do. Major props!
I saw him perform this live. It was fantastic. He brought a girl up on stage to drink/smoke with him while he was singing, he'd stop and tell the story of this song and a story about a girl he met at a pub. He's amazing.
this is the best version of the song, wow! amazing. so emotional, heartfelt... and amazingly he was able to remember all the words! let alone stand up... artists should sing while smashed more often, as long as they get better, like he did
i think i like this version better then the cd version. there is so much more heart in this version. such a great writer and performer. amazing voice.
