  • Honest question. Do all Australians not acknowledge that Holden is a subsidiary to the parent company General Motors? Meaning that yes, as this is the same as the Australian Holden Commodore. It is not "Holden's" design. It is General Motor's

  • honest question, do americans acknowledge and appreciate the fact that this car is a holden? or do most claim it to be american?

  • i got to drive a few days ao and it was fuckin fun car man i want one

  • pontiac was so bad ass their engineers always knew how to keep us fans interested to bad their all gone now

  • @bubub56 Pontiac didnt make/engineer the vehicle.

  • @scarblade234 still love it and pontiac

  • the gxp is shit compared to holden'a HSV E-SERIES 3 (their tuned out commodore/g8). Check my channel for 2 vids on the HSV E-SERIES 3 GTS.

  • the driver is such a shit cunt lol

  • whats wrong with that car? MAde in Australia as a holden Commodore...good cars

  • @gerard12668 i agree! and who cares if was a holden that they brung to the states? all that maters is that the car kicks ass!

  • australian car may look like an average american car, but under the skin, it's a monster equip with lots of high tech and performance :D

  • The dumbest this GM ever did was killing Pontiac!

Pontiac outsold Buick in the US 2008-2009 that’s a fact.

  • @bserell I agree Buick is boring, Pontiac was great!

  • (cough cough) bonneville (cough cough)

  • Same power as a 2000 BMW M5. *yawn*

  • moron forgot to turn off the stability control

  • 50 cent is such a shitty driver.. STICK TO BEING DRIVEN YOU DUMB A#E BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @mwmp1 quit hating on 50 because he got a g8

  • You're driving that car with Tourettes Foot.

  • Keep looking, Buick is coming back with the Regal and so the GN.......might be in 2011 I think, Lecerne is supposed to be dropped for the Regal's return, the GN will have a Turboed 3800, with I think the blueprints from the original 231 RWD V6

  • your mom sucks your small dick because she is a slut just like you

  • which one has more power G8 GT or G8 GXP.?

  • GXP.

  • gxp

  • Australians make bertter American cars than Americans make American cars..

  • Of course, we're better than everyone at anything!

  • |:{

  • no the engine is american and the tranny the only aussy thing is the body and interior and holden is owned by gm so shut up

  • exactly.

  • The engine is made in Canada and the transmission is made in Mexico.

The body is made in Australia and the whole thing is assembled there.

    Which part is American???

  • the managment

  • anything with a GXP badge is the bomb

  • Agreed.

  • Have you ever driven a GXP? If so, I think your opinion would be different.

  • I meant it in a good way dude. I meant bomb as in the best. Guess u never heard that saying before.

  • Second that 79HZGTS. American's may not like this but Australian's love muslce cars more than our US friends. You guys r getting screwed - dumbed down versions of our own vehicles at a ridiculous sale price. And the front ends suck 2! Anyhow...

  • That's because the Govt get's involved by making lots of stupid rules that suck the fun right out of them... especially the C.A.F.E. requirements.

  • are you all on crack or totally dumb as a rock about cars/??

  • Its so much better than a BMW. The Pontiac G8 will get you laid.

  • @davidd2005 Not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper, and much easier to customise. If you decided that the stock G8 look isn't what you're after, you can raid the Holden Special Vehicles parts catalogue for alternatives. Look up "HSV VE Club Sport R8," "HSV VE Senator," "HSV VE GTS." All three have bolt on parts for a G8, inclugin upgraded brakes, suspension, seats, even LED tail lights.

  • @davidd2005 Not to mention, it wouldn't even cost half of what a BMW 5-Series cost. When Holden were developing the G8's "parent car," they used the BMW M5 as a benchmark, and made sure it would kick its arse.

  • ehh... i dont like the Pontiac version , the car looks as if someone said , "oooo i like the Vauxhall and should import it. but what if we get rid of the sleek lines and use squares."

  • Body roll!

  • You can't buy a VXR8 in Australia. The VXR8 is a Vauxhall.

What you had was a Holden VX R8, which is 4 years older and 3 models earlier than the VE / G8 / VXR8.

The VX and the VE are very different cars, they don't even use the same platform.

There is no point to your ramblings.

  • can the gt come in manual?

  • slap a superhcarger on that bitch itll fuckin scream

  • I've seen STS turbos on the G8 getting 515 hp and 560 tq on a dyno with no other mods. I saw one here on youtube that runs a 11.50 give or take a few tenths and still gets mid 20's mpg.

  • The more I think of it, I would take a G8GT and mod it for about an extra 50-100hp. The GXP doesn't have cylinder shutdown, which is great for driving the car under normal circumstances. I haven't checked out if the body appearance is the same.

  • cylinder shutdown is the worst thing ever invented , LOL half of your engines pistons are new the rest are old and worn out

  • The exhaust valves are closed, there is no spark, and the pistons are still being lubricated. They also alternate which ones are firing every 2500 strokes during deactivation. Plus, the throttle can be opened larger during cruising which helps "pumping" which is loss of pressure in the cylinder caused by low sustained low RPM with the throttle narrowly opened. There are no long term effects on the internals, except less wear on rings from fewer firings. This sounds more genius than stupid.

  • I knew Pontiac was doomed when 50 cents was going to be their spokes person.

  • Sort of like how Chrysler used Snoop in a few of their stupid commercials.

Getting some ghetto black guy is not the best way to appeal to people who can actually afford your products.

  • it appeals to the black ghetto people that can steal this ride

  • So does crack, malt liqueur, HIV and single moms.

Is there such a thing as a black family with a father?

  • Poor Pontiac! Noo why are they leaving me? Sucks they have to go. I"m glad I have a Pontiac. We will miss you.

  • f u

  • Yeah i Love mine... plus its fun feasting on those Hemis and stangs!

  • 13 sec at 108. Four doors, seats 5. Mid 20's MPG. I'm sold.

  • Problem with the commentator...

At the end you say the GT may be enough, but they ONLY come in AUTOs, I want a (M6) manual, so the ONLY option is the GXP.

  • um. for the past few weeks they have had a manuel. so! go buy it!

  • Come to Australia, you can get about any engine / transmission combination you can think of.

  • Tha is an U G L Y...car!!!!!

  • Also, of course we already know it's an Aussie built Holden. Why the hell do you think GM brought the G8 to the states? BECAUSE AMERICANS loved the Holdens and begged for it. dumb ass.

  • Not really, most ignorant American's still believe it is an American built car. Most American's don't really know much about anything outside of the U.S.

  • Funny that you are exactly what you accuse Americans of being. Ignorant. Seriously, you think a handful of game shows that chose the stupidest people they can find on the streets to show their stupidity automatically means that equals all or the majority of all Americans? Get a clue jerk off.

  • I don't know why you are talking about game shows???

You will see I did not say 'ALL' American's. American's don't realise how they are perceived by the rest of the world do they? American's are perceived as people who think they know everything, invented everything etc and without them the world would fall apart. This is far from the truth.

Don't get me wrong, I do like America and American's but sometimes they need to pull their heads out of their arse.

  • You are throwing some pretty big stones from the pedestal you put yourself on cheekywun. How would you know what "most ignorant americans" know about relations outside of the states? Have you ever even been here, or are you just basing your opinion on what makes it to your television. I have never been to Australia, so I would not openly bash the majority of it's population with an ignorant statement like the one you made about the States without finding out first hand. give it a try sometime

  • The only person here is is being offensive and judgemental is you. You have decided to insult Americans here for no reason. You're definitely one chop short of a barbie.

  • "Most American's don't really know much about anything outside of the U.S." I am an American and I have to say I am with you on that one. I own this G8GT/Holden and it is a beautiful car and its obvious it came from some where's else because this car looks to much European than to be a American made car, but it awesome and I'm glad the Aussies let us have it so I can enjoy it! I love mine and seeing it on a video does not do it justice.......Yog

  • Americans dont know anything about the rest of the world because they arnt like Europe. Where their country is the size of a grape and surrounded by tons of other countries. The US is a HUGE nation, and has only 2 counties on the borders.

  • interesting point.

  • Australia is the same size as the continental USA. Australia does not share borders with any other country. Your justification for your national ignorance is false.

  • The USA tries to look bigger by cramming 48 states into an area the same size as Australia.

We have 7 states in Australia, and 2 of them make Texas look like a grape.

  • A great Aussie designed and built car! (is really a Holden VE Commodore)

  • why do we have to keep going on about this? Yes the world knows that it is aussie, lets not come across as stuck ups...

  • cough australian cough holden cough commodore cough cough

  • But no warrantee.

  • Stops almost the same considering the caddy heft around @ 4300 lbs to the GXP 3900...?

Also you forgot all the agility power come with a warranttee...Now i don't know about you....but i've already got a handhled bringin power levels to 500 and 490...wheel......undetectable by GM ghost tracing pragram searcher.....its been tested by a couple of owner ..though original tune was reloaded...

Then i read a see the auto makes the manual look slow...0-100 1 second faster than the manual, crazy

  • he ass hole fuck you uour momma is fat bitch

  • Hey ZO6Pilot600. well, up here in Canada there are some sweet incentives on the G8. Take list price, then subtract $6500 GM incentive, $2000 All in one package (declined), $1000 GM loyalty and then I haggled another $500 off, so $10,000 discount. The car was already a bargain without the discounts.

  • I just scored one of these babys. OMG, it's not only fast, it sticks to the road and has an interior way more refined than most North American cars I can remember. Don't bash it until you drive it. And given the cash incentives, it's surprisingly affordable. Highly recommended!

  • It is "more refined than than most North American cars", because it is not a North American car.

    It is an Australian car.

  • well i got the most refined /powerful/ and more agile American made CTS-v

do remeber if it not for our Zeta plateform and engines the Australian Versions of GM wouldn't be as Hot.......Holden is a division of GM GM is American ergo Holden is sorta American. Not only does the CTS- outpower a GXP by almost 150 hp it handles better and stops shorter.

of course you pay for that.

but thats "refined muscle" if you ask me...and its American The crest of caddy

    rules the "ring" 4 drs

  • The Zeta platform was designed and engineered in Australia by Holden.

If you find a car that was built on the Zeta platform, then it was made in Australia by Holden. No one else has used that platform, yet.

  • gxp actually "stops shorter" then the heavier caddy. and yes you do pay for the power/agility but its probably worth it, theyre awesome cars; congrats on the purchase!

  • Holden is GM, GM is American, plus CTS / CTS-V is N. American and awesome too.

  • GM is a global corporation.

  • @79HZGTS

HQ'ed in Detroit which makes them an American company.

  • That means nothing.

Budweiser (the American beer) is manufactured by Anheuser-Busch, which has it's headquarters in St Louis, Missouri. But Anheuser-Busch is owned by AB InBev, which is a Belgian owned company.

Anyway, Holden's head office is in Melbourne, VIC, Australia, not Detroit.

  • @DeftonesFan867 They may get access to some resources from GM, but very little of the decisions GM Holden make come from Detroit. Last time Detroit gave them any orders, it was how they wanted the current Chevy Camaro to look, as Holden designed and developed it for Chevrolet, handed them the blueprints, then moved on to the next project.

  • I did not say that the Cadillac CTS / CTS-V wasn't an American car.

I said that every car on the Zeta platform was made in Australia.

The CTS/CTS-V uses the Sigma II platform.

I made that post 7 months ago. The 2010 Camaro is also on the Zeta platform, and that is now made in Canada.

  • Hey...i'm gonna trade a old 06 Zo6 for the GXP, how much did it cost you?

i was thinking trading 2 GTO's but the vette is a car that requires uber care....and jealous folks like to rub against it.....

I'm also looking at the CTS-v if i could swing a Zo6+ a GTO for a Cts -v i might go that route.....the G8 GXp and the Cts-v are on the same plateform...they are like the older camaro and firebird....but the caddy gets the S/c if you have time respond please. GXP= awesome good luck

  • The G8 and the CTS-V are not on the same platform. The CTS-V is on the GM Sigma platform. The Pontiac G8 GXP (Holden Commodore) is on the Zeta platform.

  • I just realized this.....man if they don't look similarly

the CTS-v stops from 60 in 109 ft

the GXp 108-110 So i'm thinking braking is a wash....

Now i'm gnna push the warrantte limit is slotted rotors gonan void NO...i haven;'t checked if they have hard lines.....SS lines wouls increase intial bite.

You can make some smoking deals on the CTS-v as well.....just mention you want aGXP...and they atart slashing prices...they know the GXp is pretty damn good...I you mod hard GXPftw

  • Ive been a GM guy all my life and it pisses me off that they are dropping THE performance company, Pontiac! They should keep Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, and of course Cadillac. Forget Saturn, Isuzu, Saab, Hummer, and GMC. That would be their best bet. Just look at how many Pontiacs you see on the road. Wake the fuck up for God's sake. It needs to stay!

  • id rather see saab stay then pontiac

  • after they get rid of Hummer, Saab, and Saturn, they should bring back Olds.

    imo

  • keep GMC tho...their trucks are bomb...esp. the denali (yukon and seirra)..

  • Not any different from Chevrolet trucks The only things different are badged items like the grill, etc. Other than that they are of the same build quality, which is awesome.

  • If they want to kill a brand, it should be Buick, which hasn't made anything super exciting since the '87 Grand National GNX. If I were chosing, I'd drop Isuzu, sell Saab, make Hummer a model line of GMC/Chevrolet, instead of a brand. Pontiac would absolutely stay alive, Holden would be brought to the US as Holden, All cars would get performance tuned suspensions, and high output powerplants. I would also move the plants US plants to NV, UT, AZ, NM, MT, and WY. Hire car-enthusiasts for CEO's

  • You make several good points. I agree with everything, but I disagree with dropping Buick. Buick is an American hallmark company. They make great cars. Yes, they aren't the flashiest or highest performing, but they last and they are classic. Besides, Buick is responsible for so much of what GM is today. Also, I think the CEO's should be car enthusiasts, but not "gear head" rednecks. The company needs to be ran by business men with automotive experience and knowledge.

  • @jreyman

Buick is selling an amazing amount of cars for just having 3 current models. Something sadly Pontiac wasn't doing.

  • Wow you're a Dick

  • the ink u used on that post is more valuable than your opinion...what are you some kind of moron?

  • u must be fat

  • fucking sexy

  • Wow that things as quick as my STS-V nice!!

  • yeah, because it's got the same engine/drivetrain

  • Too bad GM is going to drop all Pontiac vehicles...

  • g8 is pontiacs saver car and i fuckin want one sooo badd

  • hey loser its commodore not commador

  • wow was the person driving blind deaf and pretty much incapable of any sensible input on the wheel and pedals. seriously i dont thnk i could drive that bad missing both of my arms

  • omg haha that was 50 cent driving, lol now i know why my comment made so much sense, hes def handicapped

  • probably, i remember seeing him on unique whips ripping one of these in front of his mansion

  • I love the GXP but c'mon...the 6-speed manual is an OPTION? Fuck that. The stick shift should be standard and the auto an option. Automatics suck.

  • For those of you thinking it is an American car.....check out the Vauxhall in UK or Holden in Australia.......I like the car though :)

  • No, just check out the Holden in Australia.

Like the Pontiac G8, the Vauxhall in the UK is also an import.

  • I think everyone knows by now that the G8 is the same thing as the holden commador but holden is owned by GM an american company, whatever holden does it has to get ok'ed by gm first and the holdens are made from gm parts so the G8 is no less american than the commador is no less australian.

  • What, are you on the board of directors at GM, or are you just making shit up as you go?

Next you be trying to tell us that Holden Special Vehicles is owned by GM.

  • All i'm saying is from a business standpoint, if your gonna design and make a new car that is gonna cost the company millions of dollars over the course of time that the vehicle is in production it will have to be aproved by upper management first. I highly doubt that GM lets holden do whatever they want when GM owns the company.

As for holden special vehicles if its own by holden then it's still owned by GM. Just like Ford special vehicle team is still owned by ford it's just a sub division.

  • I just drove this car in the GT form, and I was totaly impressed!!! Power a plenty, nice interior materials, great sound system. Deffinantly not the Pontiac of old!! I would consider this car in place of a Passat CC V6, A4/S4, BMW M3, For $35K you get a real nice car plus 25 oil changes, %yr/100k warrenty!! Im a German car nut, but this car cracked me!!! 5K more gets you in a GXP 415HP WOW!! A 4 door Corvette!! I got to admit it, I think GM is growing on me!!! LOL!!

  • that was $25 oil changes... Oops!!

  • what a guy u can never have enough power lol

  • You know, when I first saw this car, it didn't seem that impressive.

But when you think about it, it's a heck of a deal. You can get fast sports car performance in a practical sedan for a cheap price. If you ever had kids, you wouldn't have to "sell the sports car". You could keep this one, and drive them to school with a 400HP car.

    That's fucking sweet.

  • Indeed. When you really look at the numbers and compare them to some of the 'true' sports cars out there, you start to wonder why everyone hates on GM.

  • The G8 GXP is a great bang for the buck. You can get a 400HP+ for about $32-35K. It's like a de-tuned Vette for 5 people. GM just needs to make few more of these cars to get rid of that bad reputation from the 80's and 90's. The new Vette, CTS-V, G8 GXP are all under-rated. The new European cars break down as much as American cars nowadays. Most Japanese cars aren't fun to drive (except few models). This is GM's chance to be #1 again in the world.

  • all cars now days suck in reliability only japanese companys that make fun cars are nissan hondas subaru, i stick to honda and nissans for japanese cars and german cars man dont get me started.

  • incredibly biased and completely untrue. If you do some research you will see that Nissan is not rated very high in reliability, Honda has safety problems and Subaru fails in electric reliability. Don't believe me, look it up? I can name at least 5 GM's that are safer, and more reliable while also getting better mpg than all 3 makes you mention. Ok, I will. Chevy Malibu and Malibu Hybrid, Saab 9-3 and 9-5, Caddy CTS, Saturn Aura, Saturn Astra, Saturn Sky, Pontiac G6, Pontiac G5, Pontiac Solstice

  • thats 5 cars it should be every single model that gm makes, i'm trying to get a g8 and i agree that thats a well made car, along with the new gto but honda nissan or subaru have never had a crazy recall that could kill u or cause a crash gm and ford have,my granddad and great aunt and a bunch of uncles have worked for gm for years and all have told me things that went on in gm in the factory, so i know lots about reliably and gm.

  • I have to disagree with you. I have owned both American and Japanese automobiles. While I don't know the specifics your uncle told you, I can tell you what my 2 Maxima's and Infiniti I35 were recalled for. Both the 94 and 99 Maxima were recalled because the rear would rust out, spilling fuel and separating the seat belts from the car, also if a car infected with this was hit, It tended to split in two. My 04 I35 was recalled because the Brakes would fall out, the Brakes would fail, no airbags!

  • not trying to be mean but that 135 was shit they didn't make those very long and i could understand why, but still honda and toyota are the best out of all of all of them i only go with nissan for there sport cars cause like i said they make great engines for racing and hondas make good track racing models depending on witch model, but now it really dos not matter cause there is no such thing as made in american buy american thats bs a person should get the car they like.

  • the I-series Infiniti was produced from 1996-2004 when they created the RWD/AWD G-sedan. Nissan decided to scrap the I because it was FWD. The I-series is a more luxurious version of the Maxima, but identical in every single mechanical way except the option of a manual transmission. Honda is a great "Motor" company, but they fall very short in the design of the actual car. you can still buy America cars. Pretty soon they will be more American than ever, lol.

  • You complain about reliability and then say you like Japanese cars.. WUT.

  • i don't see americans being reliable and i don't see german or american cars being reliable either, and wen i say reliable i'm talking about back in the 50s and 60s wen cars were made out of thick metal, now days u could barely be going 5 mph and get 2k damage if u hit something.

  • Lol how well something does in crash tests doesn't have anything to do with reliability. Reliability means it lasts. for example an American V8 or a BMW engine. So you are saying Jap cars are more reliable because they do better in crash tests lol?? Sounds like you need to learn how to drive or something. Crashing should be the least of your worries.

  • only japanese company's that make anything decent are toyota and honda thats as good as it gets japanese wise, id say nissan too but they are not as reliable as those two.

  • cheaper though

  • Hope you're joking, and not just a dodge fan boy with no knowledge whatsoever of either car.

  • I just choked on laughter.. Buy a V-series Caddy and move on... Among members of my 'fleet' include a Stealth Gray STS-V with several modifications and not ONE AMG 'has' Benz has gave it a run for its money yet.. Then again we can throw the '09 CTS-V into the mix to make things very entertaining..

  • If you want to show off an awesome car then get a good demo driver that is not making the car look like it drives like a bucket of shit, cause that is exacly what that driving didi to this awesome car and with a Holden you can never have enough power for sideways action.

  • see alot of body roll

  • It's called a sedan. The G8 has very stiff suspension for sport sedans, on par with BMW; however, it still is soft so you can actually drive it on the highway without injuring your back.

  • That would be 50 Cent's amazing driving skills.

  • The official numbers are 415 horsepower and torque, not 402. 1/4 mile in 13.0 @ 109.

  • i hope pontiac survives through these tough times and 1 day bring that trans am concept to reality have u seen it. its my dream car.

  • That was some horrible demo driving in that lot! WTF? These twats cant drive for shit.

  • They probably don't know how to drive a manual car lol

  • loooll thats 50 cent driving lmao no joke

  • did anyone else see the grey el camino looking car in the backround at 1:02??

now thats a car id drive!

  • That is the Holden Commodore ute. You were going to get it in the USA badged as Pontiac G8 ST (sports truck), but with the downturn in your economy Pontiac have decided not to import them. Google "VE SS UTE" if you want to see more.

  • everyone knows that automatics are actually faster once you start getting into lower 1/4 mile times

  • SLP will soon reveal the 2009 Pontiac G8 Firehawk, & will wrongly reinstate the legendary nameplate!

  • it wont have the strenght to do it...

  • they have a so hard time to make it I don't think it will be easy for them to create new models

  • fuck manual dude. there are plenty manual cars out there. I like manumatics and pluse we all know that manumatics are better then just manuals

  • Its good to see you guys finally enjoying a well built Aussie car.

  • cmon theres no such thing as enough power

  • That car is hot! Best looking Pontiac in a long time.

  • haha your rite great australian built cars just like the gto

  • I really like the 'new' GTO, but the fact is that it does not have very inspiring looks. The 'new' GTO just does not look awesome.

  • What did you want it to look like? A 1974 Pontiac Ventura? Where do the rules say that a GTO has to look "awesome". From the beginning, a GTO was only ever a hotted up version of something ordinary. The new GTO is no different.

  • I guess some people just have to have a manual. Are they claiming the GXP Manual or Auto does 0-60 in 4.7? If stick, GXP doesn't seem worth the upgrade with just .6 seconds shaven off the 0-60 from the Auto GT.

  • .6 seconds is drastic

  • the most important is not the seconds, but the fun you have driving in these seconds

  • That's not the point. The point is a manual car is a Hell of a lot more fun to drive than an old lady's automatic. When I'm driving I want to do just that. A proper sports car has a manual. Everything else is a Buick.

  • Ha, a RWD Buick w/ limited rear slip, maybe ;-)

  • well I won't say it that way... but clearly manual's better, the standard G8 should have a manual tranny choice (granny auto trans (ok "manumatix (its not a real one anyway its a cheap shit like so much others) sucks)

  • In Australia, you can get them with almost any engine / transmission combination. 3.6 litre V6 with 6 speed manual or 5 speed automatic. 6.0 litre LS2 with six speed manual or 6 speed automatic. 6.2 litre LS3 with 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic. The 7.0 litre LS7 is only available in 6 speed manual.

  • that's why the reg g8 and gt need more engine and trannies

  • Hellooooo torque steer...

  • Torque steer? This is rear wheel drive. I dont think rear wheel drive vehicles have torque steer.

  • The Saab 9 3 only gets 24 MPG and my BMW is worse than that.

I am thinking about one of these but the base model will be good for me, why does anyone need over 400 HP on American road?

If they had a manual transmission in the base 6 cyl it would be a no brainer and I would already have one.

  • what about manumatic? The caddy CTS has it.

  • I never understood US car makers' obsession to not offer the option of a manual transmission.

    Unless I have 2 cars,I own a stick.

From shit boxes to the nice ones, very few cars are offered with a manual.

I almost bought a Lincoln LS6 a few years back until I found out they discontinued the availability of the manual.

I always said they should have offered a high performance version of the 98-2004 STS with a 6spd,maybe from the Vette.

But as much as I love that car,it is front wheel drive.

  • da boi said on da kelly blue book review dat it has 415hp and 415lbs of torque and 0-60 in 4.6 secs so whos lying???
