ahhhh fuck!!!!! i loved this game but got stuck early!!! had a problem with jumping on those mountain cliff thingys close to the beggining of the game.....every gameplay i watched had no problem with it it was just me. I seriously almost cried cuz i once i started playing i got hooked and uggghh i cant even think about it.
i'v been a fan of final fantasy since the early 90s and i'd love to see alot of them remastered with better CG but i learned about this gem of a game a few years ago and i can honestly say this game needs to be remade first and foremost. i know they made the xenosaga games but they didnt have a great as impact as this game did....if this was remade it would sale big simply because every thing about it was great....the caracters, the battles, the story was epic.
Hmm....the PlayStation was my first console growing up, yet I've never played this, is it any good? Can it match Tomba, Lunar, or Megaman X 4 in overall fun?
@TheUltimateCrash1990 Xenogears is what you could call a classic. It's not the same as Lunar or Megaman and I never heard of Tomba, but long story short, its definitely a good investment if you wish to purchase and play this game. Make no mistake about that!
@XularusXIII its commerialism, it takes over anything that has the potential to be popular with the masses. Games are now the in thing, people lose weight thanks to them, relieve stress and pretty much everything but have a meaningful experience through them as an art form.
Games must now cater to all folkgroups, mainstream and hardcore and must not offend a single soul, thus alot of the focus goes from music and pacing and storytelling and more to bang for your buck, gimmicks etc.
I finally got this game at a reasonable price, and am playing through for the first time and the music alone makes me feel this will be well worth it. Plus, I'm studying psychology and heard there are elements of Jung and Freud's theories in the storyline so I have a slight chub in sheer anticipation.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Xenogears. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
feel free to check out my "cover" for this track. you can find it as a video-reply to this video, or just look for "rpgmusictribute bonds of sea and fire" and you'll find it. hope you enjoy :) thanks
I was only able to experence such a awsome RPG by using an emulator, and im saddend that the company cut the budget short on disk 2. they would have made a shit load of money, If only I had known about this title sooner :(
Played this game when I was eight years old. Played through several times as a child growing up, grasping more and more of the deep philosophy as I grew older. Very much treasured the characters and a story that forced you to think about ethics and metaphysics.
I already graduated and went to college smart ass. It's not like you ever made a mistake in writing something right? Even the best writers make grammar errors one in a while.
@Scarecrow2004 In a format where you were unable to stop and review your text before it was entered, I would agree with you. Unfortunately, this is a format where you can stop and review your text before it is entered. Given the circumstances, I don't think the best writers would make a mistake. In fact, I don't think that most college students would even make that mistake, which I feel throws your claim of being a college educated person into question.
Atleast our childhood/teenage life was saved by games like these, memories we can cherish for years to come, i pity tennage/child gamers of today ruined by dudebro culture
@wunderbeast New generation has a much shorter attention span and lacks intuition that the majority of the older generations had when playing a new game. It's a shame for sure.
@wunderbeast Yes! I bought Super Paper Mario thinking it'd be like the GCN version I'd loved so much. It's crap in comparison. I ended up getting the original on virtual console instead. It's head and shoulders above the Wii version.
@gunslingerfry yeah i had to sell super paper mario cuz i got bored with it. the n64 version was great but the 1000 year old door is my personal favorite for sure!
It's kinda sad... video game music can be as good as movie soundtracks (it all depends on the composer's talent, really). I remember someone saying that he played Rose of May (from FF9) before his teachers at a conservatory. At first, the teachers were all "It's beautiful." and then this person told them it was from a video game and all of sudden, the teachers began to retract. Some people are clearly fixated on not recognizing VG's artistic value for some dumb reason.
@RadicalDreamer17 Those teachers need some lessons. I was taking piano lessons early this year, one day I brought some sheet music with me so my teacher could play it for me and give me some tips for playing. I told him it was from a videogame (SH2 - Theme of Laura), he played it horribly on purpose, saying that it didn't make sense and was not what "real" musicians should play. Needless to say I asked for a teacher change, and then send him a link to VideoGames Live.
This tune keeps my demons at bay....it keeps my dark side from wanting to lash out and reminding me that there is great beauty in humanity....connecting....belonging....harmony...
@korrbarrett You should check out "Myth". It's a CD that came out in 2009/2010 and features a fantastic version of the most known Xenogears songs - played by an orchestra.
You can't always count on SE for good games but you can count on them for top-notch music. This is the way it has always been and the way it will always be.
Can't even describe the feeling this song brings about. It's kind of nostalgia...but on the other hand, it just feels like my youth in general. Spent more time listening to it outside of the game than in. Absolutely beautiful.
its funny because i only bought xenogears this year, and i am HUGE on video game music. I was instantly captivated by the music in this game when i heard this....i hadn't realized that yasunori mitsuda was the composer, who composed chrono trigger, still my favorite soundtrack in any game, but this game's music, and even the game itself, are just so incredible that i wish i had the privilege to play it when it first came out.
A game TELLS you it's awesome if it's price at the game store is STILL 60 bucks after 3 years. Too bad the greatest hits came out for it, the value would be MUCH higher than it is now. (Up side is more people had gotten to play this masterpiece of a game.)
The soundtrack is my favorite soundtrack ever for game music. (Hell, even more than most movie scores, sans Hans Zimmer's works.)
SO true. I used to just sit there and listen to each theme that rolled up in-game for hours at a time because the song were so incredible. I remember the first time I heard the battle theme and the creepy whispering. Sent shivers up my spine I was so blown away.
@Newsted25 its not that Square Enix doesnt make only bad games but I know where youre comming from. The games made by Square alone beat the ones Square Enix made

Fair enough, but the lyrics above is nonsense anyway (it was a language made-up by her to sound good). So, what made her version memorable actually is the gorgeous arrangement (aka. "music") that is at least on par with Mitsuda's.
sorry dude the first person to write this song was yasunori and wow someone came up with a good arrangement of the song if you already have that song to go off it wouldnt be as hard as writing the song in the first place and no her version isnt even close an arrangement of an original song will never be as good because its not the original and ive heard her song and it does not rival this song even a little

One of the best RPGs on the PSOne for sure. Probably one of the most underrated in my mind. It isn't a polished as something like Chrono Trigger but it is epic! The battle system is also awesome!
Wow I played this game when I was 15 years old, now I'm 24 and I still remember how great this game was and still is, memories are a beautiful thing ;') "A world without music like this is like a world without oxygen"..........XENOGEARS FOREVER.
Heh, just about the same deal with me actually. I got the game for my 16th birthday, at 25, I'm gearing up for my (at least once) annual Xenogears playthrough, a tradition I've held ever since that fateful day I received it, 9 years ago.
The soundtrack is outright enchanting, let alone, just about every other aspect of the game as well. This is one of (if not THE) the very best RPGs ever made. I love it through and through.
Xenogears has one the best soundtracks ever I dare say. And the songs are so much better when you've played the game as well, adds alot of atmosphere you wouldn't think of if you never played the game. The game is a true masterpiece.
dont compare xenosaga to xenogears cause xenogears is one of the best rpg game there is u know and has one of the best music in rpg so dont ever compare xenosaga
the best ever and ever... so deep, masterpiece in entertainment history, non only a game, but an experience.

The game is a true masterpiece.

indeed.. it's because they're done by the great game BGM composer Yasunori Mitsuda.. and I look forward to RPGs w/ bgms composed by him^^
