That plot of land (St.Giles Circus) has always been ill-fated. Where the hideous Centrepoint skyscraper stands - which stood empty for years, there used to be a gallows.
Nowadays a concrete jungle with a traffic roundabout with a speculative skyscraper plonked in the middle of it:
Nearby was St.Giles rookery area, one of worst 18th & 19th c slums.
Wonder if Crossrail will manage to finally turn the Karmic tide in a positive direction - or not...
There are countless examples of beautiful, inspiring architecture being designed and built today. Visit the SkyscraperCity forum and see for yourself.
Im against demolishing old building in London , but centre point has always been the one place in London where leaving it as it was would have been the worst option, ether centre point needed to be demolished or a larger space created around it,
Now the blocks have gone they should build nothing and create a bigger space.
Tearing down The Astoria is a crime. Centre Point was a design crime (I don't even want to think about what was torn down to build that) and it is still a crime that i have to look at it - even though for some unimaginable reason it is now a Grade 2 listed building. It is just plain ugly. So let's just rip down the old and put up even more ugly buildings.
As a former resident of London(I just left after 4 years),I wanna congratulate you dude for your excellent video!I was walking past this area all this time without really knowing what they planned to build instead.Great job! Merci beaucoup! A "frog" loving London.
Is that block of Victorian buildings with the blue hording on the same side of Chring Cross Road as Centre Point being demolished also? This whole area is an absolute disgrace. Having said that the new building going up next to the Theatre is amazing. Nice to see an architect borrowing from the past to create something worthy for the West End other than a glass block.
My god those are ugly buildings.

The worst thing about Centre Point is the douchebags who gather at the 'Paramount' members club on the top floor.

Noted architecture critic Nikolaus Pevsner described Centre Point as "coarse in the extreme." (from Wikipedia)

Yeah I hate centre point, it's such a shame it's listed. It looks like shit but it also looks like unfortunately it's here to stay.

I disagree. Centrepoint is an iconic building.
