  • lol, fail. Terrorists just need to buy like 100 of them and they have enough radioactive material to make a dirty bomb(an improvised atom bomb) FFFAAAIIILLL!!!!!!

  • 1:26 wait whut a C4????

  • enchancement?

  • make bombs! xD

  • Can you make a video on Optical smoke detectors also? I have recently replaced my broken detector (an ionic one) by an optical detector and found it useless :(

  • .... what?

  • crap thought the smoke detector went off 0:05

  • The beeping scared my mom lol

  • not simple

  • um... can you repeat that?

  • ohh now it makes sense to me...thanks

  • I used to collect americium in the hopes of gathering enough to make a bomb, then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • RIP for headphone users

  • Arghhh you deafened me!!

  • so i can make a bomb with my smoke detecter?...awesome :)

  • rsnor latch lool

  • Theres Americium in my living room! How many smoke alarms do i need to power my house? :)

  • Jesus. Saw the circuit diagram and had a flashback to high school physics. Had to stop watching.

  • Must admit, I kind of zoned out during the MOSFET section. It was really in depth.

  • @Nurr0 I agree. We kind of look back on that & wish we'd used a different approach ...

  • I really learnt something, well invested time.

  • Hahaha i rememberd this from school :D!! i feel so smart

  • Please make a new video explaining how the mosfet works. The summary was too fast!

  • @aerodyno I agree with you. We are finishing up the book that goes along with the next series of videos and I MAY be able to put a good description in there.

  • in 3:06 can u explain what each of the symbols mean ?

  • I like how he sounds like William Shatner. Rad.

  • @DDaines88 hard... its hard

  • tanx !

  • ENGINEER IS CREDIT TO TEAM

  • I gave up at 0:46...

  • @95toffee why?? is electronics boring??

  • what came first?

    the chicken or egg?

    ↓MINDBLOW!

  • @YanxtarVideos your mom lol

  • what?

  • Bill Nye ..is that you?

  • i was watching this when everyone else in my house was asleep, im sure it awoke my uber sensitive mom thinking the house was on fire, or having flash backs from the very first night in this house (all the smoke detectors went off every 30min from 1am-3am ) untill my mom finally beat one down to unplug it xD fun first night.

  • This guy is awesome! Hope we see even more like him :)

  • Too!...Much!...science!!!...

  • Lulwat?

  • i lost

  • i found this through Leanback on Vsacuce and im really glad i did, but at parts i believe it should have been better placed in Mindblow ... my head hurts!

  • how come at 1:08 the protons are moving together with the protons, and the electrons are moving together with the electrons? shouldn't opposites attract? especially if they are not noble gases (which oxygen and nitrogen are not)

  • @moops47 The drawings show ions (not electrons or protons); it shows charged particles. The radiation has ionized them. The top and bottom electrodes have difference charges so the positively charged ions drift toward the negative electrode and the negative one toward the positive electrode.

  • @engineerguyvideo awesome, i get it now. thank you kindly :)

  • ....but will it blend?

  • I have a question... How do you feel about Blu Spies??

  • ty this help my project on engineering do you mind if i show this vid in class? pl

  • @josephgarrison1205 Its licensed under creative commons: Of course you can use it ... in fact you can download it to any device, add your own comments to it etc ... all legal ... google "creative commons share alike 3.0"

  • @engineerguyvideo ok ty very much

  • How do you feel about tickets being issued by the municipality for every false alarm? It seems counterproductive because the dis-efficiency lies in the responders of the alarm rather than the alarm itself.

  • so because when the battery is running low, there is not enough of a current running between the two electrodes causing the alarm to go off?

  • Oh so if you add the battery correctly it will work, Ic...

  • wow i didnt understand half of it yet i still know its amazing hahaha great video =)

  • Bill Hammack is amazing.

  • I'm worried about the C4 there at 1:30 =(

  • BUT!, will it blend?

  • Im actually watching this because of the Hard drive video, This one seems really interesting so i clicked on it, But apprently its in the playlist xd fail

  • show civil engineers some love

  • and...... My brain exploded. This is not the right thing to be watching at twelve thirty at night.

  • @TanaARose im waching this at 1:34 at night

  • @RURUDDY 2:33 right now.. beat you :D

  • 2:33 So from what I understand, you can create a current that opposes one diode if a current flows in the direction that another diode is pointing when the current pushes the charge from the positive side on through the circuit.... Im not sure If I still understand (I thought I did for a second). This seems contradictory to all of what I know about electricity flow. Would anyone mind giving an explanation?

  • You misspelled transistor (transisor <- in your caption)

  • WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?

  • i totaly understand this -_-

  • that......makes so much sense o_o

  • you sound like bill shatner

  • what level of intelligence is required to watch this episode?

  • @henryusyay umm 40

  • Haha that reminds me of my own smoke detector. We always know it's working because it goes off every time we have french fries, even if none of the fries are burnt. And it only goes off when we have fries too, not other foods. And ideas why?

  • I get the weirdest happy nerd smile every time I watch one of these vids. So smart it's hypnotizing!

  • That Guy Is Really Fast

  • Can this device detect carbonmonoxide?

  • @ottotr That's an excellent question. No. I believe you need a chemical reaction to happen. E.g., some (I I recall!) have a gel that traps CO.

  • @engineerguyvideo name of the Gel?

  • ii never understood circuitry at A level!

  • thumbs up if you love to learn new things.

  • OBJECTION! current flows the opposite way!!

    blashphemy!

  • Cup of tea: Check

    Engineer guy video: Check

    My body is ready

  • but why dont alarms go off when aresol sprays (like deoderant) enter them?

  • @AnonymousDOOD1 THEY DO

  • @AnonymousDOOD1 Very good question. I would hazard a guess to say it's moisture related.

  • o____o

  • it really is amazing how people come up with these gadgets

  • after all this smoke detectors feels useless on how complex to build they are!

  • mass effect?

  • @PCFPSGamer @engineerguyvideo yes but now they have ones that only go off when they detect thicker particle disruption ie smoke.

  • Am I the only person who thought of Redstone circuits from Minecraft when watching this? Same principle, yeah, got that, just wanted to make a friendly comparison.

  • I feel so ignorant after watching these videos. They are so interesting though.

  • smoke detector at the beginning woke my mom up -.-

  • @Cr0gers Wear headphones if you are going to watch videos this late. Be considerate man.

  • Really interesting videos!

  • he reminds me scarily of my physics teacher.

  • vsauce shows the best stuff!!!! :D

  • i cant understand anything of this, the worst thing is im going to be an eletric engineer. xD

  • my smoke alarm went off in the middle of this!

  • inexpensive??

  • I thought that was my alarm going off at the beginning!

  • RESTONE!!!!!

  • @010000012 Did you mean redstone? XD

  • My dog got spooked by that beep at the beginning!!!

  • i sub'ed, damn you leanback

  • @0p3ra710n Crazy people aren't intelligent enough to watch this guy. :P

  • wait i have a radioactive metal in my room?Thats why I'm coughing up blood.. :O

  • 5 people still live in the middle ages

  • I want someone to build a smoke detecter in Minecraft.

  • but there are two different types both very different

  • mine blown ppppflllshh

  • I am taking a eletronic engineering degree on Portugal, I understand a few things, but in the end, putting all together, I can't understand at all. xD

    Need some portuguese subtitles here!

  • I remember the first time I opened my fire alarm and noticed the radioactive symbol and freaked out a bit haha

  • My god, you make everyone smarter in less then 4 minutes with everyone of your videos.

  • I've always wondered how a computer reads a computer language like C++ or Python.

  • So essentially it is only detecting the increase in particles in the air. So dust and steam can cause the detector to go off...

  • @PCFPSGamer Correct! In some very humid parts of the world these detectors give off too many false alarms.

  • @engineerguyvideo oooooh, THATS why mine goes off when people take showers for too long and steam fills up the hallways. cool!

  • @engineerguyvideo I learnt this in my first year of electronics, it's quite simple

  • @engineerguyvideo and thats why there are so many smashed alarms in florida

  • @engineerguyvideo well I happen to have one in each room. Had about 5 alarms, 2 of them were in the middle of the night and all of them were false. Any ideas why?

I could explain 4 of those... well not really. But one was really strange. It started beeping in the corridor when I entered my house. Windows were open and no one was inside for good 2-3 hours.

Now I want to remove those things or turn off those noisy liars.. (that's why I'm trying to find out how they work)

  • @PCFPSGamer Thats why theres no smoke alarms in kitchens

  • @PCFPSGamer Yeah they do. We used to have a detector just down the hall from our upstairs shower. If my shower was too hot and I opened the door.. the steam countless times set off the alarm.

  • vsauce sent me here and i'm subscribed!

  • COMPLEXITY is on a roll!! he has thumbs ups from all of the vsauce videos! :D

  • best description i've ever seen of how mosfets work, why cant you be my analogue circuits lecturer!!

  • R.I.P Headphone users at start.

  • All I could think about was redstone wire through that whole thing, lol.

  • at 0:37 who else tried to click it away?

  • lol my mom came in saying whats on fire?!

  • born and raised in america, just took college general chemistry, and this STILL is a bit complicated

  • wow never though humans are so clever....

  • subcribed! thanks for vsauce

  • Can we actually use this to generate electricity?

  • amazing. love these videos.

  • I'm sorry, but I just can't follow these videos :\ They sound and look really interesting, but I'm a Dutch 14 year old, so my English I don't understand quite a lot of words + a lot of the things I do understand I still don't understand because I'm too young, so after not even a minute or so I'm already lost :)

  • shut up nerd!!!

  • I must be an idiot because he lost me completely...

  • HOLY FUCK THAT HURT!!!!

  • oh...my...gosh...i'm like so friggin lost it's not even funny.

  • MY EARS!

  • Not him againnnnn

  • i understand the video just fine, though english is only my second language...

you don't have an accent, some british accents for example are much harder for me to understand.

nonetheless it's true, there's a lot of information in short time especially when you explain the circuit(s) -- but that's not an issue of hearing, rather understanding. ;)

  • im 16, english is not my native language and i still understood all of this.

and now im reading that people who speak english didnt get it.

    what the fuck, people?

  • @OmfgItsHenu congratz you should win a prize for being a douchebag.Sowhat lots of people have english as there 2nd language and understood it!Im german in the 9th grade and learn english in school i dont brag about it.Also how do you measure how good ones english really is?Im sick of people acting this way thinking there better cause they know more...

  • Shit maself lol

  • me no understand smart language...

  • wow.. incredibly interesting and at the same time sad.. sad that is that im alot dumber than i thought.. i only understood bout half of all this.. maybe.

  • I masturbate furiously to these videos.

  • @Phelan666 D:< NO GOD DAMN COMMENT STEALING FAGGOT

  • We are learning the MOSFED stuff in the end of our first electronics engineering year. This must be hard for people to understand

  • I think I just gained some brain cells.

  • Damn hate that beeping sound.

  • say what?

  • Yeah I did this as a part of physics coursework for g.c.s.e science in school a couple of months ago... *skip's video*

  • I did this in science GCSE for coursework..I realize i know more about fire detectors than i should. ¬.¬

  • I love science so friggin much

  • I feel smart knowing this already.

  • Pretty interesting.

  • the beeping was unnecessary

  • we learn the basics of this in school here in england.... i'm just sayin'

  • simple ???????

  • I just learned what a mosfet is in 3 minutes vs. the countless textbooks with even more complicated diagrams.

    INSTANT SUBSCRIPTION

  • Too bad these videos lose a lot of it's value to people who have english as their second language, like me... Too many words I don't know make me lose track of what you're saying, but I can see these video's are awesome, and very interesting.

  • @Soldier842 I'm sorry to hear this ... we do have translated captions for the videos with the most hits ... this one currently has only Indonesian and Russian ... post a comment asking for a translation and someone may do it. Also, there are English transcripts at the web site which might help ....

  • @engineerguyvideo can i volunteer to make closed captions translations to Portuguese if it would be ok with you.

  • @engineerguyvideo Can u make a How to mices work?

  • @engineerguyvideo Dutch would be great. Subbed.

  • @Soldier842 School boi...school.

  • @Soldier842 Your english seems to be pretty good actually xD English is my fourth language and I almost completely understand this video, but we are all not the same so just before you point that out, I do get it x) It might have something to do with my age too, I'm 15 and I learned english pretty much from movies and such.

Have a nice day sir and hope you understand these very well educated videos without struggle soon =D

  • @Soldier842 I have english as my second language but I don't find difficult understanding the difficult words or any other words by that matter.

  • @Soldier842 It's also somewhat difficult for anyone who is not involved in the engineering field. I'm English first language, and I don't know everything he's talking about. Look up terms on the net; that might help. :)

  • @Soldier842 It doesn't really affect me.
