  • Hey, I'm 13 and I get up to like 0:35 and I just get so confused. You make it look crazily easy! Hopefully by studying this video I can learn to play it all the way through

Inspirational, this'll help me a lot.

    Thanks :)

  • Thanks for uploading this! I'm learning it right now for a performance! This is my favorite piece by Beethoven!

  • Cheers for uploading this...I'm attempting to learn it at the moment and this is really usful :)

  • is this song hard to play

  • oh my god.. great... i want to learning how to play a piano like you man...

you is a inspiration for me.. thanks..

  • this gave us i i want you shes so heavy by the beatles!

  • I wish my keyboard had more keys

  • This plus RainyMood? ~love~

  • this was on shadowman thew one on n64

  • This song truly speaks to me. I will soon take piano lessons and Ludwig Van Beethoven's songs will be my first goal. Moonlight Sonata is a song that can truly never die. Just like Beethoven. His spirit will live on in all of our hearts. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • this is INSANELY slow. this is not at all how it should go.. mind-numbing and the sound is off by about a second.

  • @eyePWNThisChannel This is how slow Beethoven wrote it. It's supposed to be slow because it adds to the mysterious moonlight atmosphere of the piece.

  • @RianeBane you should really study up on the works of not only beethoven, but also many others that are being misinterpreted... You are also wrong about it being named moonlight sonata... that came much later...

  • An elderly father sleeps in his armchair, before the warming orange glow of a fire. Behind him a loving son pours him a glass of wine, tending to his aging father's needs. As he moves silently to the chair's side, his shirt lifts slightly, exposing the bottle of poison....

  • First time i heard this was in Resident Evil, about 16 years ago. Fell in love with it forever.

  • I am in 8th grade and i hit print on this piece... little did I know 30 pages would print. Beethoven is wonderful. so are you!

  • Thank you for sharing this,I have yet to learn how to play the piano but I feel the time has come, many years of practice before I can play this masterpiece, but I will,it's number one on my bucket list.

  • This song always clears my head, i guess thats the brilliance of it.

  • que bien buena habilidad para tocar esa cancion

  • Did you learn specifically to play with a 2-4-5 fingering in your right hand at the beginning (and other random locations), or is that what was more comfortable with you? Were you told that the thumb would produce too much of an accent to use a 1-2-4 (or 1-3-5) fingering? I personally find it easier to start with 1-2-4, just because I use it later once the melody comes in. But otherwise, you sounded wonderful. :)

  • @goodnitemama I'm not thinking about my fingers (let alone what fingering I'm using) when I'm playing a piece like this; I'm just thinking about the sound of the music. My last piano lesson was more than forty years ago, and I developed most of my technique on my own after that, so it wasn't a matter of being told what to do, but rather of trying things and listening critically to the result. The technical part is all pretty much unconscious now.

  • @smalin Well, I certainly can't wait until I am allowed to do that again. I'm currently a music education student (junior), with voice as my major and piano as my minor, and my piano lessons professor is a tiny Chinese woman with a doctorate, and she's incredibly strict about fingerings and whatnot, so I suppose for now, I am very conscious of them, because if I'm not, I get yelled at.

  • @smalin I miss the days when I could just play something and not have to worry about my hands, I could just let my fingers work themselves out. Those are the times that I most enjoy playing piano.

  • @smalin So you can say you are almost a self teach... I am plaing for 8 years now. I am Selfteached i Played the Moonlight Sonata after i listened to it like 3 times so its not hard but still is a Wonderfull piece

  • u r gr8 !

  • beautiful link to the sheet music. There are so many interpretations of this. Every time I play this, it translates differently. The 3rd movement is the "Killer" movement. Some days I can do it, and some days I can't. Frustrating....

  • @smalin

great playing and i have a problem as an amateur pianist

i cannot control top of my left thumb. so it becomes hard to play octaves or even to play arpeggios. do you have that problem as well?

  • @MrChopiano No, I don't have a problem with my left thumb. I have played a lot of contrapuntal music (e.g. during my twenties, I played the fugues in Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier almost exclusively), so the two hands both work about the same, and no finger gives me any particular trouble.

  • @smalin thanks for the answer,

so did you understand what i meant exactly?

if you look at my Chopin-prelude video you might see particularly, bC_mg30oU1E&list=UUIgzEg-ZLMJv9T9s3ethQvw&index=6&feature=plcp

this is a well-known mistaken posture for the thumb and is there anything to do to gain a new finger posture after being 22?

  • @MrChopiano I see that your thumb is bent backwards. When you say "I cannot control" the top of your thumb, do you mean that you're physically unable to bend it normally? Or that you have a habit? If it's a habit, you can overcome it.

  • @smalin well just in case i hold my left thumb i can bend the top joint inward for now. and i am not sure if that will pass by time. i hope so and thanks for replying my messages.

  • Yes, it was always my favorite, still remember the time when I was able to play it without problems. Nice work.

  • Sooo beautiful I almost cried... sniff.. ;\

  • My daugther plays this lovely piece, it is just wonderfull. Thank you for sharing this video, congratulations to you♥☺

  • I was once able to play this from memory. Great Job!

  • this...is...beautiful. Wonderful!! Bravisimo!! Marvelous!!

  • I just love how you captured the utter loneliness and depression that Beethoven felt. So beautiful. So absolutely beautiful.

  • That was good ... Really good !

  • Simply wow! I Love Moonlight Sonata, but this illustration was great.

  • gona rip this video and practice all day long

  • do you play all of this from memory?

  • @Ibakecookiess No, I was reading the music.

  • @TheLoverock1996- I beg to differ. This was actually one of the first songs I learned, and it wasn't that difficult. It's just a matter of practice.

  • @ViceHBI7 see what i said to nickaldana23 above :)

  • Wonderful. Did you play yourself?

  • @pianist1501 See the FAQ.

  • Thank you for uploading this

  • I feel sad when I watch this cause I'm a beginner and i can only play the version with out the chords :(

  • nice video. liked it

  • Whooo went I watch this It's like that is very easy to play? or not?

  • @shimazu122112 Easy to play? I wouldn't count on that lol. It's written by an amazing pianist, so i doubt that it's easy.

  • one of the best sounding pianos on youtube

  • beautiful!

  • i love this piece1 this video helped me a lot in playing this piece. bravo!

  • I am just starting out to learn the piano and i cant wait to learn to play this!!!

  • @FLYDOG2013 And i can't wait to "have" a piano like this!! haha....

  • @FLYDOG2013 I trully dont wanna disappoint you BUT its really hard... you have to play for AT LEAST 5 years...the notes arent so difficult by as time goes by you get more experience and the sound actually sounds much better.!

  • @TheLoverock1996 5 years?! I've been playing for 7 months and just finished learning this piece. After my beginner book I learned fur elise and then this. It is really not a very difficult piece if you put the practice time in and work hard

  • @nickaldana23 Yeah i know it's easy..pfff i dont know english..i will write it in greek and try use google translator ;p

    I hope it makes sense(:

  • I play this peace but as I have a disabilaty I do not need sheet music I have autisum it dose upset me having autisum but I no just how gifted I am would love to here back from you Jay

  • Love the piano playin mate that is awsome would love to meet you ias I play this peace to Jay

  • @itsanthonyhere Bah!

  • I can never not listen to this song from start to finish

  • Absolutely beautiful, my favorite piece by far

  • hmm ..peacefull

  • Musically, I'm completely incompetent, but I love to listen. You play beautifully! Thank you for adding all of your videos!

  • dud i can play this on piano

  • That was almost a flawless performance. It is very hard to get the musicality so good. Thanks!

  • This piece always makes me think of earthworm jim... :P

  • i dont know why but i feel its scary rather than beautiful..

  • @TheMarshall92 The dark moodiness of the song would probably contribute to that feeling.

  • Is this an acoustic or an eletric piano in video smallin?

  • @OmegaRed1993 Acoustic (a Kimball grand).

  • Ah, I so need to get back to playing piano. I miss being able to play things like this. It's been almost 2 years I think since I've actually sat at a piano and tried to play a piece of music from looking at sheet music.

  • That's weird, I started making my own melody and it sounds so similar to this in the three, three, three, three, three way it's played; I've never heard this before either.

  • Beatiful piece, dont know if its just me who knows this but you had to play this song on the first resident evil to open a door to outside!

  • Manly tears were shed...

  • dung la dj vao long nguoi

  • @smalin I downloaded the sheet music in the description and printed it out, but it has no fingering labeled and I'm having a lot of trouble with that. Any suggestions to wear I would find that?? Thanks! :)

  • @goodoldmoon7 Sorry, no.

  • @goodoldmoon7

Hi there, I have no idea how I came across this video lol.. but glad I can help

    Go to this page: imslp.org/wiki/Piano_Sonata_No.14,_Op.27_No.2_%28Beethoven,_Ludwig_van%29

There's a lot of sheets for the same music, which is great! Choose after rating, mostly

Just ALWAYS use this site, there's seriously no better out there. It's free and you get sheet music for all composers you could ever think of! Plus, fingerings are great :-)

  • my god, i LOVE this piece!!

  • Amazing

  • I love Beethoven <3 :D

This is my 2nd favorite from him.

You did amazingly good :D bravo!

  • I love this... You did this amazing. Sometimes, it makes me think of death when I hear it. I can't [play this song on my Piano, but I can play others

  • Wow this is a really good video. I really like the setup. It's quite helpful :)

  • i like your big ass piano alot

  • how long did it take you to get this song down?

  • @michaeljpescatore I don't remember. I learned it more than forty years ago.

  • @michaeljpescatore

Hi! This was the first piece I learned for piano, takes about 2-4 weeks. But of course you will NOT play it very good if just starting out, but who cares. Friends and family wont even notice, maybe you wont even yourself lol. But when you return to it after a year or two you will laugh at the ease ^^

oh, and please don't call it a song.... makes me sad >:(

  • @michaeljpescatore I nailed it in 6 days. And I'm 15!

  • @Rasmus0909 dud it took me a month to learn the different parts but i got it im 13 ive been take it since i was 5 so im happy but tht means ur really good i dont know how u could of master tht

  • gotta love that finger stretchin...

thanks for the upload! belissima :)

  • I heard this song when you enter a shop in that Xbox Live indie game called dead pixel...

  • @lmlm11 No.

  • i really like those with hands playing

  • this is lovely. i really apreciate your work with MAM.

  • I just wanted to thank you for sharing this.

  • i wish i could play half as well as you. but i can only play the theme to beethoven's 9th symphony. i can't even read sheet music that does not tell me where my fingers should be every step of the way.

  • VERY VERY NICE ! thank you.

  • Very good - a little too fast though. Claudio Arrau played this piece fantasticly.

  • i knew i wasn't crazy... so far i am able to play the first two pages out of 5 correctly but my piano teacher complains i don't play with passion but i'm playing it as passionate as you are.

  • Stephen, are you famous? Where can i find pictures of you?

  • @arielrati Famous? Ha-ha. No. You can find pictures of me on my web site.

  • have you taught of being in a group or something lately your very good

  • is it weird that i cry every time i hear this song? :')

  • @MoonchildSummer yeah, a little. but that's okay. we all sentimental bastards out here in this world, and we all cry with joy and love.....it's when you cry for sorrow that you should really worry (life is bad, then)

  • I fucking cried

  • wow, this was just perfect. :) Thank you for your upload!

  • I come here just to listen to this song. X-D

  • This is good music for playing in the background and revising to, it really does boost up your grades, i got a D in physics last time, and when i revised whilst playing classical music (mozart) in the background, my test results were and A and a C - Much better!

  • I wouldn't really call this romantic haha :)

  • @mcnultyfrank it was of the "romantic" era of music, that's all :P

It's very depressing, isn't it? but nostalgic. I just can't stop listening to it.

  • Do you play at like piano recitals? youre the best player I have seen so far.

  • @lookIMaRACOON No, not really. The last public performance I gave was probably more than a decade ago. I sometimes play at get-togethers with friends.

  • shame, really is! at least you are really good at playing the piano, better than 99.9% of the rest of the world, its something to be proud of!

  • you should do personal tutoring sessions, you would get paid loads. and if you already do, i am not surprised

  • @191khronos I tried teaching, but I wasn't cut out for it.

  • @smalin u should try harder. I really think your style feels "comfortable" and should not be allowed to go to waste. ;)

  • @ahtan2000 Sorry, I'm just basically unambitious.

  • I play the same arrangment! Very nicely done! :D

    Sam

  • do you have the other movements?

  • What kind of piano are you playing?

  • @madhatter2883 It's a Kimball grand.

  • @smalin you're very good i wish i could play like you

  • it's crazy how your hands can reach over one octave. I have very little hands and while playing the piano, I can barely reach a seventh, let alone a ninth like you do!

    Well done. Beautifully haunting.

  • Oh god this song is hard to play. I once played through the whole thing, then fell asleep on the piano bench XD

  • i luv this song :)

  • woah thats awsome how you did the notes, along the screen

  • @JadaAndLeAnner Sibelius+MATLAB+AdobePremierePro.

  • My friend is 10 years old and he played this in music class. Absolutely loved it

  • <3

  • One of the great works of art! Hey, how did you make this video? What program/programs did you use? I'm really impressed!

  • @scottgilesmusic I made it with software I wrote, plus Sibelius, Matlab, Visual Studio, Adobe Premiere Pro, and maybe On2 Flix (though I don't use that anymore).

  • i played this song for my puppy tonight (its his bday hes 1!) and he fell asleep on the couch. i will never forget that :]

  • this is terribly difficult to learn /:

  • @KamronRashid No, its not to difficult... my cousin taught me in a day and i then could play it! :] it just takes consentration and time

  • incredible

  • Resident Evil theme song,

    nice

  • @kakashi86477 yaa.. lol

  • this interpretation is so awesome! thanks for this!!!

  • i'd like to know why in some parts you slowdown and then goes to normal speed, please ?

  • @TheXeeded I can't explain it.

  • @TheXeeded Expression from the pianist. The piece would be pretty monotonous without the slows.

  • @samuelsko thanks, now i understand.

  • this song gives me the bumps

  • @LALALAND9216 This is some of the coldest shit every written.Love dhis shit.

  • FAAAAAAN-TASTIC!! What a great method for visual piano lessons. One could get very used to sight-reading this way with the "pitch-class coloring" and pedal indications, while the sheet-music gently floats along below fingers that look like they could be my own with the angle/view. Well done, sir!

  • It takes a long time to load but it's very nice!

  • Just beautiful

  • one of my favorites

  • Love this video! Nice hands by the way ;)

  • Big fan smalin. Not only do you have sweet graphics but your a great composer and pianist. I wanted to ask; my piano teachers have said one of my biggest flaws is that I don't roll my fingers when playing (I accidentally keep them flat like during a pushup) and I see your doing the same for the most part. Is there a reason for this?

  • @C33Four If you look at my hands in the Bach C Major fugue, the Mozart piano concerto movement, or the Scarlatti sonatas K 450 and K 159, you'll see lots of times when my fingers are more curved. If you let your arms hang loosely at your sides, you'll see the natural curvature of your fingers --- the most relaxed position. If you use that as your "home" position and open and close your hand only as much as necessary to get your fingers on the right keys, you won't go too far wrong.

  • I learned how to play this a year ago (when I was 13). It was very difficult to learn, but I can play it substantially now. Your video of this is lovely :)

  • Is it normal for your heart to try to slow down to follow the beat of music as beautiful as this?

Maybe I should listen to something else, for my health.....

  • @progressiverocklover Slow down, yes. Follow the beat of the music, no.

  • @smalin

My heart always sped up listening to this song, responding to the tension, the despondency, the moroseness of the piece.

  • nothing but Beautiful

  • @RmSlayR Agreed.

  • you should do a different visualization.. i cant read notes, yet i found the notes more understandable than the animation.

excellent play and tutorial btw =)

  • beethoven = big in da game.

  • id like to lick ur hands ,,,just saying :)

  • @RaeRae914 Well ... uh ... stop by the next time you're in town.

  • @smalin lol well im from Ireland i doubt i'll be in ur town :) lick ur hands for me ok maybe a lil weird ,,well awesome playing xxx

  • @smalin this is why we all wanna become piano players xD

  • @RoBMaRley117 You mean, so that RaeRae9 will lick your hands?

  • @smalin if i could play the piano like you dude, all the girls in the world would wanna lick my hands...

  • @smalin el oh el

  • Wonderful playing and a cool video. I'm just starting to learn this piece but I have trouble reaching the octaves and sustaining them. I think my hands are too small or maybe I just need to practice more. What do you think?

  • @BeatsonsGirl84 If your hands are too small, you can roll the octaves (play the lower note first) and hold them with the pedal. This is a standard technique, and some music is written explicitly to use it (so that all pianists, not just those with small hands, need to master it).

  • @smalin Thanks for the tip, I've tried it and it works. Is is the same when I have to play low A and high B simultaneously?

  • @BeatsonsGirl84 Yes. When I first worked on this piece (when I was a teenager), I did that. I think my hands were as big as they are now, but not as flexible. You might find that it sounds best if you play the A a little before the beat (and catch it with the new pedal).

  • @BeatsonsGirl84 how old are you? i learned this song when i was 13. and i bet theres some asain girl 6 years old who can play this thing so i think you should be good. i don't think any song is out of the range of anyone you just have to practise. my dad has smaller hands then me he's 6'1 and im 5'9 (im 16) and he could play this song.

  • Guys I would love to learn the piano... I have my own keyboard but I can't read music and have really bad coordination (bass/notes) Lessons are really expensive where I live, do you think there is still a chance I could learn?
