@MojacarFlamenco Albuquerque's got deep Spanish roots (New Spain's New Mexico. Go figure) So we have a lot of Spanish culture in our lives (As well as Mexican but that's a given). Anyway we have the only repertory Flamenco company in the U.S., the National Institute for Flamenco, and every summer, the Hestival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque. We have world class dancers and tocaors which is great for a mostly Spanish Acosta like me. Gott alove Flamenco =)
I would like to correct those that believe Fandango is only from Portugal or Venezuela.
Fandango/s are the term/name used for many songs and dances throughout the Spanish speaking world, including Spain and Mexico, and many other countries.
Fandangos in Spain include: Fandangos de Huelva, which is a regional dance from the Huelva area in Andalucía. We based our Fandangos on the Fandangos de Huelva, often performed aflamencada. I wanted to clear up misconceptions.
I'm glad some people are catching this correctly, this is Flamenco, not Fandango. They are two very different styles of dances from two very different countries. I'm Portuguese and Fandango is done at many of our festivals and gatherings. This is a beautiful dance, but not what I was looking for. For those that asked, Fandango is a dance from Portugal.
This is a Fandangos de Huelva from Spain (Huelva being in Andalucía). There are many versions of this dance - in Spain often performed with castanets (more folkloric/regional) or performed as a flamenco dance, with the same dance structure as the regional style. FYI, there are also many other versions of Fandangos, both in Spain, in Mexico, and other Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. Just wanted to let you know :)
This is FANDANGOS de HUELVA de España - As I mentioned, it can be performed "aflamencada" or as a regional Spanish dance from Andalucía/southern Spain with castanets.
Our dance here is based on a traditional flamenco Fandangos de Huelva structure, and has nothing to do with any dance from Portugal, though I'd venture to guess there may be some connection, since Huelva is so close to the Portuguese border.
GREAT SHOW,, AND THE GUITAR SOUNDS ALRIGHT, THE SOUND SYSTEM NEED LESS VOLUME,, ACOUSTIC, MORE TO BRING THE AUDIENCE INSIDE OF YOUR PERFORMANCE.. bUT REALLY IT WAS SPECTACULAR
Hi, Stephen (the guitarist in the video here.) The music is an original composition pf mine, essentially a Fandango. You can find it under the name La Primavera on iTunes. The Cd is is Mojacar at the Madrid, the ensemble is Mojacar Flamenco. Cheers,
Beautiful, but something seems off... Maybe the camera was in the wrong spot and was picking up the echos at weird times or something? I can see their feet moving correctly with the beet but hear it offbeat, maybe the speakers from the band were close to the camera's microphone, while the sound from the feet had to travel. Impressive dancing though.
YouTube sometimes works like the subtitles on '50's Japanese monster movies, audio and video out of sync.We haven't had this problem with this piece, so no worries.
Bonito baile y mu guena musica! Buen trabajo. Sobre el tema abajo, ke me llamó la atención, aki en el sur de Brasil también hay bailes llamados fandangos. Y si no me equivoco nos españoles han estado muuuucho tiempo por Filipinas también, será esta la razon...
That's an excellent question and one that doesn't have a simple answer. A form known as "fandango" emerged in Spain in the 18th Century, but it doens't bear much relationship to the contemporary fandango dance except for certain key features such as the use of the andalusian candence and a refrain section. There are also slow, un-danceable fandango songs, fandangos grandes, that don't sound anything like the dances or the 18th century version. What's the Pandango like?
He estado in Jerez aprendiendo del maestro El Carbonero y me encanta los ritmos de esa ciudad, pero en esta piece quise tocar un fandango con un ritmo más americano.
No. Like many folk dances, Fandangos de Huelva, the form underlying this piece, can be danced by one or a hundred. Go get 99 of your friends together and try it!
Would you feel disrespected if someone wanted to dance like you? We are American artists who love and respect flamenco and we've never experienced anything but positive reactions from Spanish artists for our work. In fact, We're pround to have received eight awards from the Spanish Minsitry of Culture to promote Spanish culture in the U.S., one of which helped to pay for this particular production. So go, find a good flamenco teacher and dive into this beautiful art form.
You are right, the Fandango is a sub-genre of the Flamenco dance genre, but gigagamer16 is not wrong either. while there is a Flamenco Genre, the Flamenco Dance also exists and is native to Andalusia. So while the Fandango strictly falls under the Flamenco genre, there are a lot of Andalusians that would very upset if you said that their dance (the flamenco) was actually not a dance of it's own.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We love it too

gigagamer16 3 years ago
The fandango is part of Flamenco music.
U can't say there is ''a'' flamenco for it's not so defined.
It's like pop music. U wouldn't say a ballad is a slower version of the pop right ? It's just a style within Pop. The same here.

teddysn 3 years ago
The fandangos de Huelva is a regional dance, but also considered part of flamenco, and included in flamenco concert and smaller shows.
In flamenco, many songs/dances are slower - i.e., the cante jondo/baile jondo dances
