  • Dude It sucked

  • Pretty Fair Review. As a lifelong Green lantern fan I was pleased with Ryan Reynolds and much of what I saw sticking to the origin story. However if you only get one shot at making a green lantern film, the plot should have told the origin and then gone right into the Sinestro storyline as the studio's opening salvo. I'm glad to see that despite losing that gamble, they are going to go ahead with the followup. Hopefully they will be able to retain the actors under contract.

  • I really appreciate your analysis of what exactly the flaws are here... I didn't have any expectations, but I just know it left me cold. From your review I can see it more from a hopeful fan's perspective - and how it wasn't all bad in that regard! Anyway, GL has a new fan in Max! ;)

  • DC has payed attention to only two heroes? Are you saying that the time spent on revitalising batman has been wasted?

  • @predwarlord considering that they are just now trying to push their other properties after seeing how successful marvel has been and how it will be with the avengers movie, I am pretty warner warner brothers is kicking themselves for not giving their other properties the same treatment they have given Batman.

  • deadpool i got it in like 1 second lol.

  • The hulk is green...and so is the lantern...so the hulk may have created the lantern power from a space intestinal parasite..the parisite turned into the squiggly lantern that feeds all the rings..thus the circle and the sqiggly power lantern of the ring is really a symbol for and ejected gamma radiated ring worm from the hulk that shot out into space and became the green lantern ring (IE ring worm) ..there are many more hulk ring worm metaphors that could come from this movie...

  • This movie was AWFUL, everything was wasted, to the characters to the action. There was NO PLOT, and the effects were as bad as something you would expect from SCI-FI channel. Terminator 2 had better effects than this, embarrasing. But it's Hollywood....they don't know how to make movies anymore, they just know how to manipulate the aduince into thinking shitty movies like this are actually good. shame......

  • Right... on the... Money, Fury!!! I just didn't feel everything for these characters. It needed to be more because we are now accustomed to quality superhero films. But then you already said that.

  • Problem with a lot of these comic to theater movies is a great concept which gets cut to pieces with producers trying to hit the jackpot like Avatar or Titanic. Splashy effects ruins great stories. Hopefully we can have a comic film that is original without any "we gotta hit the jackpot" influence.

  • I liked Ghost Rider.

  • i'm sorry, fury. this was a terrible movie.

  • not even pretty good but not terrible just hmmm meh can't really classify it not really good but not terrible

  • The pacing was terrible and they failed to make the earth parts interesting. Its like if someone gave you a really house and you got to live in it for a few minutes then they take it from you.

  • Its not bad, but there is so much wasted potential that it makes me angry. What really bothered me was the lack of good characterization and development. Especially with Sinestro and his relationship with Hal. The post credit scene suffers because of it. It had the writers from No Ordinary Family working on it and it suffered because of it. Ryan can be a good Hal, but the script suffered heavily. The villains were so uninteresting.

  • Your right about meters, they suck. You can use meters accurately, and that requires reading individual reviews from the meter's website. The individual reviews gives people a more realistic expectation, that you don't have to expect big from a sucky movie, but u can use ur bad expectations to enjoy it more. But thats just me and I still watch movies with bad ratings.

Using meters to lower ur expectations can help you enjoy a movie more, is what i am trying to say.

  • It's definitely NOT on the level of Elektra, the Spirit or Wolverine: Origins. It just felt like it was lacking in a lot of areas. I walked out going "meh" more than anything else. Good performances, decent SFX, poor script and not enough of what worked well (Sinetro, Oa, the other Lanterns). Also, I thought Amanda Waller served no purpose being in the film other than them wanting to tell the audience "Hey! Look who else is here!" She felt like a macguffin.

  • funny ending and great review.

  • My points pretty much the same as yours. I didn't feel robbed of Green Lantern but I didn't think it was outstanding either. It was pretty good but I wouldn't buy it on DVD or rewatch it ALOT. It was fun for what it was and I hope of a sequel comes they push themselves more to deliver what we want.

  • I had fun with it. Sure it wasn't as awesome as Inception, but it's better than Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, and Elektra. For critics to say it's as bad, they're not only out of touch, but deserves to be hated upon.

  • You guys do understand the tomato meter works right? It ads up how many critics suggest it or not suggest it. The reviewer could have been very close to recommendation but they just couldn't full recommend it. Fury's review would have come up as rotten to.

  • Excellent review my friend :)

  • Uau you saying that we must see it in 3D! That must be one good 3d then!

  • I really enjoyed both of the Fantastic Four movies especially the second one. I possibly have the unpopular opinion. Same thing with Ghost Rider.

Honestly, I don't expect Green Lantern to be the most epic superhero movie ever, neither do I expect Captain America to be. But I do expect to have some fun with both of those movies.

I do look forward to seeing Green Lantern.

  • but I wonder if the justice leaque movie will have anything to do with green lantern or jonah hex? if they do do it, it will probably be the opposite of what marvel is doing with the avengers, have one big movie then have all their characters have their own spin offs instead building it up through their own movies then brining them together for one movie, plus their probably going to revision sups and bats which i have no problem with

  • I loved what chris nolan has done with the batman mythology but I hate the fact that he took him out of the dc universe, superman returns should have been a complete reboot instead of continuing from superman 2, johan hex should have dropped the whole supernatural element and should have been a badass rated r movie. could of, would of, should of, so I guess now if dc will do a justice leaque movie it will have nothing to do the dark knight rises or the man of the steel

  • the guy who voiced hal jordan in emerald knights should of played him in this movie, ryan reynolds should have played the flash and deadpool, hes perfect for those characters in both DC and Marvel respectively

  • I didn't see it in 3D :(

  • I keep hearing mixed reviews from people on youtube. So I'm going to have to see it for myself.

  • Parallax should be part of a trilogy and be the last and ultimate boss, because, its supose to be a last boss. The first villain could be the manhunters, robots wich go berserk. Wich could lead to sinestro start the sinestro corps (yellow lanterns) and then we could see parallax, the last boss. Great review

  • I smell a reboot

  • Thought the ending of your video was classic!!!

  • So, whats the difference between you, and one of those critics that you dislike? Rotten tomatoes and Meta Critic are meant to show what the overall critics approval is of a movie. What's the difference between you and them, besides the fact that you have the tagline "Bringing the Reviews Back to the People"?

  • @095293003 Fury is doing this out of love of movies, not to get paid. When you do reviews as a job you feel pressured to make them as clear cut and entertaining as possible. Which means you sometimes exaggerate. They have other tastes compared to movie audiences because of education/the fact that they've seen a lot more movies. Lastly, critics writing for Press/webzines are cut off from their readers. They don't really hear feedback and have a chance to reasess their arguments.

  • @095293003 There's also other stuff that happens behind the scenes. Critics deal with movie studios and their PR. For instance, a uk movie site I like had some trouble with WB Pr department (ran a contest and WB didn't give them the prizes they promised) Their review of GL was a picture of a Green Lantern suit with an ass for a head. Because that's what the movie was. ASS. Now I thought this was highly unprofessional, but that site just really hates WB because they screwed them over.

  • great stuff Fury

  • Steel wasn't a dc character?

  • Good review.

  • Once again, Marvel>DC.

  • Well I'm not that into the Green Lantern comics but I didn't really dig this film much at all. Great review and ending, though, Fury! And please, the last thing we need besides MTS2 would be Dragonball Evolution 2.

  • i hope the second is better and and not rushed like hangover 2 was

  • Wait...I had something else to say.

I think the predictable villain and really formulaic writing was due to what I saw as a tribute to classic Superhero movies. It went back to Superhero formulas and cliches, ans sometimes even poked fun at them, to remind us a movie is just supposed to be fun, especially one based off a COMIC book.

  • What I'm really afraid of is Grown-Ups 3.

  • why do you use a fan made picture?

  • @awesomeman462 I like that one better than the studio one with all those people who never really do anything in the movie.

  • i saw the midnight screeing and thought it was ok

  • I understand that professional critics can frustrate those who see something different entirely in a film. I hate that this one critic (Dana Stevens) compares Green Lantern to the Tree of Life even though the two have NO relation whatsoever. However aren’t we all critics? We all form opinions alike and sometimes don’t understand each other’s point of view. While there are qualities in films that we simply can’t deny, it seems odd to disregard critics even though I am one and so are you.

  • @TheMantaBluRay heya manta, when I say "critics" I mean those accredited ones with their noses in the air and look down on the audience and only seem to write for each other. I've always had issues with "critics" and thats why I use the tagline "bringing movie reviews back to the people". These critics feel they have power and often times power is given to them when rotten meters are looked upon as a standard to follow. most people don't even know the people adding to the meter, how could you

  • @FuryoftheFilmFan trust a meter when you don't know who is rating it and how. so that's what I meant when I talked about critics.

  • @TheMantaBluRay The difference between stating an opinion and doing a movie review is that when you do a review 1. you have the obligation to provide reasonable arguments for why you feel the way you feel and 2. you have to keep in mind who the review is for. Opinions are meant to be expressed, reviews are meant to be read and understood. Good critics will provide sound arguments and will always keep in mind what they want the reader/viewer to walk away with from their review.

  • I'm sure the sequel will be much better...if its greenlit.

  • UGH!!! I'm sick of all the hate that this movie is getting from the critics. Rotten Tomatoes is just so fickle!! Hook has about 20%, yet it has such a HUGE fan base!! Not every superhero movie needs to be like The Dark Knight, As long as it's fun and is faithful to the source material, I'm happy. Hell, my best friend, who is a HUGE Green Lantern fan said the movie was a blast!! If he likes it, then I will too!!

  • This was a great review as always, Fury! Keep up the good work :D I personally thought Green Lantern looked too much like other superhero movies that flopped. From the trailer, it looked like it relied heavily on comedy and special effects, and not enough detail on story. I was still gonna see it.. eventually, just not at this time period

  • So in your opinion both of the DC Animated Green Lantern movies (First Flight and Emerald Knights) are much better features than this live action take?

How much better is First Flight (since it was also a take on the Hal Jordon origin) compared to this live action take?

  • @DaRunningMan absolutely ,the animated one told a better story. not so much emerald knights but first flight told the right story for Green Lanterns origin

  • @FuryoftheFilmFan Hey Fury, I once heard that they were seriously considering Jack Black... Yes, JACK BLACK, to play Green Lantern.

  • Hey Fury wheres the blip link?

  • I found Thor to be very forgettable ! as well as Iron man 2

  • lol whose the lady who talks at the start of each episode?

  • @StormingSheep pretty sure its his old lady, sounds hot eh? XP

  • @xxc3lld4m4gexx thank you <3 (blushing) hehehe

  • @Chulachulafaraway :D Very welcome madam, i speak only the truth

  • @StormingSheep my own personal announcer.
