People say it should be a wedding song but it's kind of a sad song...because he's singing about how he's no longer with who he loved and he'll love them even when they're loving someone else. So I don't think I'd want that for my wedding song...but that's just my opinion.

I definitely hear this as a reminiscence of his past relationship. I imagine he's sitting outside looking at the stars. He misses the person he's singing about, but at the end of the song I believe he is saying although he misses what he had, he wont miss it too much because the person he's singing about it happy with who they have.

Maybe suicide is a long shot actually, but it still doesn't seem like a happy relationship song to me xD And since he's telling it all in present tense, maybe that's the reason why they chose to do it in a very obvious older style. Pshhh I'm probably completely off but that's what I think :P

I always thought this was a suicideish/breakup song.

Like in the beginning, he's remembering the times they had together and how she was his first love, especially how much he wanted her before he had her. Then he talks about when he first told her he loved her and how they started dating. But then he says, "but since then many days have pushed you away," which makes it seem like she left him or they grew apart.
