  • I love this game. This game is what started it all. EverQuest IS THE ORIGINAL MMORPG

  • @kevin89060

No it isn't. Ultima Online predates it by 2 years and is another excellent game.

  • man i miss that old game was fucking awesome :D

  • While this video was playing, I was Playing UO and loving it.

  • i remember when i first started playing ... on my first day i went to talk to one of the gaurds and accidentally attacked it :D who else remembers that

  • @wildefice1 everyone should remember that, who didnt try to kill a guard?! bahahaa

  • It's amazing how dated that is now. I remember being so blown away when it first came out. Still remember Neriak when I started a Dark Elf. Good times.

  • Wish I could go back and play EverQuest when it was in it's prime. Didn't start playing MMOs until WoW :(

  • @questrelm I played it from Jan 2000 till mid March 2000 then I left it for Asheron's Call. I never looked back as AC1 was my game but many people loved EQ. I absolutely hated Verant, at the time, but SoE takes their place. I loathe and despise SoE and will never ever touch another game from them after many years of playing EQ2.

  • 1:14 where is this?

  • I think I started playing EQ on a K6-300 mhz with a 4 meg ATI video card and win 95.

I still have that computer, except now it runs dos + win 3.11

Maybe I'll "re-upgrade" to win95 just to play some more...

  • just wow <3

  • Nostalgia - party of one....

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Part of what made this game so great was that it was new to the US. It was a new kind of gaming. EVERYONE actually put part of themselves into their character. As an example Ogres wouldn't talk to High Elfs and Druids were afraid to kill animals even though there wasn't a faction hit. Everyone followed the basic lore. It was a game of mostly adults. It was unmatched. The EQ experience within its first few years will never be rivaled until there is again a huge new leap into gaming.

  • To bad SOE promotes gold farming

  • The good old days before VI was "relieved" and sony hosed the game forever.... oh and wow came along and made things epic boring. 'Oct 99 Dakthin, Brell Serelis

  • wow the graphics in alpha were like 10x as clanky as the release version :P

  • @ambientdiscord

lol, I remember getting in game the first time and going OMG! now i'm like ....omg?... but the nostalgia will never fade. Forever KOS to EFP (stupid paladins).

  • i was playing this game when i was 7man you had time lol

  • I remember when this video was new and awesome. I wish I'd kept it, since this copy's audio is rather broken.

  • What is the name of this remix of conga fury? I had this video and have been looking for this remix forever.

  • /ooc LVL 8 WARRIOR LFG ORC 1 or 2 PST hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha omfg i remember those days and now im a lvl 85 ranger with 4400 AAs on the povar server over 11 yrs played and still runnin strong

  • I guess this is the starting point for all MMO's then? I would have been, like 3 years old when this was around. But i can understand why it was so big.

Also the 28.8 kbps Internet connection seems so unreal now.

  • EQ was a breakthrough trendsetting game. Brings back a lot of memories. Will never forget how exciting those early days were -- we were right at the cutting edge. I've never experienced another game quite the same way again.

  • I started back in late 2000, early '01, can't remember, but I was only about 5 at the time. I didn't know what my specs were but it ran beautifully. And Trenaur's right, nothing beats old school EQ

  • I started back in 1998 my self. I was 7 1/2 at the time. Haven't stopped playing mmo's sense. But I will never, ever forget the classic days of EQ1. I would relive them again if I had the chance.

  • Man, I wish I was old enough to experience such a great game at the time. I was only 8 but I heard the rumors of how fantastic the world and immerse the community was. If we only still follow the path of making games with great features instead of improving just the graphics. I'm apart of the newer generation of gaming, but I can still tell how much of a great game this was.

  • I'm glad that there are some youngsters out there who can appreciate the oldies but goodies.

  • @Drbolla345 Actually, started Everquest when i was only 8, back in 1999 :)

  • @Drbolla345 here here, It is nice to see these youngsters, even play with a few of them, but the friendships I've made in EQ will never compare to those of WoW (or every other MMORPG bc i've literally played them all) and I like to see these young people realizing it's more than just about graphics, it's about the friendships made.

  • EQ has come such a long way, that's for sure... I still play it to this day :)

  • hahaha look at those player models! omfg that guy soloed naggy that's impressive

  • EQ was developed and ran by Verrant Interactive until 2001. A fact that was forgotten or unknown to many MMO players today

  • @hunter24seven

Aye when Verant left the game died.

  • I'm happy they went this the spherical ogres

  • Look! Spammy Fire ball projectiles!

    Man, the ogres were buff...

  • These vids are definately opening me up to the grand-uncle of mmorpg. I'd go back in a heartbeat to restart my Hal-elf Bard again... sigh. He's the only one I didnt level fully (45?) plus I miss the skirt armour of my Erudian SK, drool. When all those expansions started to hit I became dis oriented and left. No one really played simply hung out in the marketplace all damned day. That got old. But I would be game to get in on some old eq.

  • I got into EQ through EQOA..I could only imagine the fun at the time this game was released..

  • I was 17. Man those were the days.

  • I sometimes think back to the start and recall all the memories I made and people I met, dam miss those days, simpler times in my life.

  • yea my comp couldnt handle this game back in the day, so i was forced to play ultima online

  • You had a pretty nice computer, better than the one I had when I started this game.

  • nothing beats old school EQ.

  • Cool video. Glad I found this. I didn't start playing EQ until 1999 when I think the Kunark expansion came out. But man I can remember how hardcore that game was. Took a lot of skill. Nothing like WoW or anything where you can solo to 80 and easily never die once. I still play on EQ Emu once in a while for nostalgic reasons. It would be awesome if EQ Classic was released again but I'd be afraid of becoming addicted again.

  • You know, if EQ classic could just get some excited "developer" like people with it and create an expansion after Velious, it would be perfect. Obviously not so huge but storyline and themed zones that have not appeared in the main game would be so insane.

  • 64mb ram? That was pretty good, I had P120mhz and 16mb ram with 1mb gfx card and 33.6kbps modem :)

    Good times.

  • started July 99

24 mb RAM voodoo 2 whatever.. I lagged so much I couldn't get up the Kelethin elevators

  • LOL that flare spell was fun...wonder why they got rid of it??...it didnt do much but illuminate stuff as it flew by :P

  • i started playing in 99 on fennin ro, and I played with 32 ram and i think a 400 processor...

  • I played from 2000 to 2005, I would like to play the classic game again.

  • This game is a classic.

  • I remember in 2000 the graphics of the zone were like that, only the peoples graphics were much better and the spell effects were alot better in 2000 when i started

  • i'm actually STARTING everquest 1 soon. Everquest was way before my time, and even if it isn't the same anymore, i still want to see what the hype was/is all about

  • Everquest 1999 is a lot different from Everquest 2002-Present. So many changes have been made to the game it is almost a totally new game in all reality, so you will not know what the hype is all about until Everquest Classic server comes out. Don't go in there (the game) with a preconception that nothing changes after 10 years you will sadly be disappointed.

  • Any idea when the classic server's going to be a reality?

  • There is no estimate time to completion because you can't rush genius my friend.

  • i miss eq so much=(( made so many friends, i used to just log on a talk to them sitting in various towns =( if anyone is from the tribunal server and knows Grimlim-59 dark elf Shadowknight Message me..or if anyone still playes eq or if the Classic is stil alive MEssage me and inform me how to get on it please

  • World's best game, nothing else compares

  • yes, lots of ppl still play it, including me! =)

  • you know, most of the comments ive seen on the EQ videos have all talked about how good EQ was. I used to play EQOA for ps2. Makes me upset that i mised a game like this? is there still alot of players on this? if so i would love to join it in stead of playing fucking wow ='(

  • It is not the same game it used to be unfortunately... at all. search EQClassic youtube profile videos, theres a project to bring back old eq with a large following.

  • No MMO will ever compare to original EQ. Everything is so watered down and easy now. All of the most enjoyable gaming I've ever had happened on EQ.

  • Wow your IQ is low Zeropha. Did you know this game didn't come out in 2008? Of course it would "suck" compared to some games out now. How about researching before typing? You would appear less fucking stupid.

  • this was 1 hardcore game.

  • god, i miss the old game:)

  • Oh *wow*, I've been looking for this clip again for the last eight years. EQ was never released in this state, and of course races like trolls, ogres, and dark elves were completely different in beta/launch.

Locations in this vid are Qeynos, Surefall Glade, Blackburrow, SolB (or was it SolA?), and Cazic Thule. Might have been a splitpaw in there too. There was only one shot that I couldn't place, the horned temple thing.

  • actualy EverQuest first came out in June 25th 1998 after The Internet was introduced to the people in March 10th 1996.

But yeah i remember that version of EQ back then when i had my Amiga Skyfox I still Play to this day.

    Skardeck Level 85 Warrior.

    Xegony Server.

  • The internet was introduced to the rest of us before 1996. I can remember first logging on to it in 1989. But for most, it was available sometime in 1993. But wow what a difference between pre-release EQ and the one today.

  • to some people including myself, this was the greatest game ever created.... those days were golden

  • Dude, It has enhanced in not only graphics but in every aspect of the game since it was released in 97-98, this game is raging with life still, i know so many people who left to wow when it came out then came right back because wow cannot measure up to this amazing game play it for a month and tell me im wrong, it is the antidote to any gamers addiction, 10 out of 10, ive played eq on and off for 5 years now but somehow keep going back, it is just that good!

  • thats fucking nuts. Ive never seen eq like that

  • my first computer that i played eq on was 8meg onboard graphics card, 28.8 modem, 64 megs of ram. I got my second one when DAoC cameout, and went right back to EQ. I was so psyched it could handle almost all the new models lol.

  • Wow, i've never seen this version before. Were these graphics only in beta?

  • Most likely.

  • its alive.... trust me

  • EQClassic was NOT stopped. The website was temporarily taken down. The project is strong and getting closer and closer. :) Drop by IRC ( #eqc on irc-peeringsa-net [replace -'s with .'s]) and see for yourself. Don't listen to the people saying it was shut down.

  • "you have sold your last muffin"

    wow, pwned hehe

  • look at todays graphics we can make everquest look even better more enviroments bigger servers better ideas to make even more fun =) sony make everquest 3 haha

  • This was over 8 years ago. Keep in mind this was for computers that did not even have 1ghz and not even 512 mb of ram. Even some computers didn't have 3D accelerators or graphics cards as they are called today. I played this game without one and it was very hard on my computer, so in that time it was very demanding for computers. A lot of you young people need to do your gaming history before making accusations of other games that have paved they way for today's games.

  • 1999 version lookes better =)

  • gnolls in Sol B

  • For anyone wanting to check out EverQuest one last time, Google EQClassic Project, it is coming together and it will be EverQuest in its golden years (99-01) with Original, Kunark, and Velious.

  • Ahh the good old days. :D I wouldn't even mind giving up PoK for those 20 minute boat rides. Created some damn good memories.

  • I know how you feel..

  • I wish I could thumbs up more than once.

  • man i played this on a windows 95 box ,so laggy but it hooked me ,eq player for life

  • Holy hell, pre-alpha footage. That's really, really old. Even for EQ players...

  • At 1:14, what location is that?

  • It was probably one of the many beta zones they made, but never used in the final release of Everquest.

  • I'm so pumped for this

  • I'm with ya.. Balek :)
