  • My favorite song from Simple Minds . The whole song arrangement gives me goosebumps...unforgettable!!

  • I was born in Dublin but migrated to Australia in 1970 at six years of age. I don't claim to know much about the troubles but I've yet to listen to this beautiful song without crying.

    Thank you for posting it.

  • Dedicated to William John Close, 5 years gone but never ever forgotten, I miss you mate XXXX

  • never mind the troubles.. hopefully those days are behind us now.. this is a song that reaches out too both sides off the invisable divide.. its a great piece off music all ppl from belfast should be proud off.. even tho it took a scots group too write and perform it :)

  • bit pathetic when people slag a classic tune off,you dont like it fuckoff, pure quality this is

  • 11 OUT OF 10.!

  • the song is call 'she moves through the fair' a traditional irish number

  • they are call simple minds because the singer looks like he has down syndrome

  • Every time I hear this, my thoughts are with my Grandad, because he passed away when this went to number 1.

    I still miss him.

  • Simple Minds is such an underrated band, who knows about them today if you werent a kid in the early 90s.

  • @peuimporte i don't think many 90s kids knows about them either to be honest...i started to listen to this band just because my father listened to them, otherwise i wouldn't even know they existed.

  • makes me melt listening to this <3 true magic! <3

  • omg, thankyou thankyou thankyou.... forgot this song existed, what a beautiful blast from the past x

  • 1 of the best songs ever written

  • you stupid bastards

  • Touching, amazing...wonderful. Simple Minds far exceed u2 in my humble opinion.

  • When I first heard this, I thought ok, paddies, going on about that, np, then I found out it was just some bigoted Celtic fan.

  • And she moved through the fair...oh, no wait!?!

  • @imagodtoya yeh stolen in a big way mate lol

  • come on home boys, your land needs ya, your women love ya, and your mother wants ya home

  • Hit #1 on the UK pop chart for 2 weeks on Feb 25, 1989

  • @deliveryguytoronto...all of my family lives in Northern Ireland...and the problems go far back before you and i were born, the snakes just need to get the hell out of Ireland for good, that would stop most of the problems...the longer they stay the more killing there will be...nowadays the problems between the Catholics and the Protestants arent so much the problem as are the problems between the the english and the Irish...

  • Absolutely awe,awesome!!!

  • Brilliant Band!

People of Ireland, please help me understand how things got so bad is your wonderful country? I'm a English Protestant who was born and raised in 95% French Catholic Quebec. I have no love for the separatists but love the culture and the people. They have almost outlawed English in Quebec, but yet not one bullet had been fired over it. Why is 2012 is there still hate and bitterness between the religions in Ireland? Thx.

  • @deliveryguytoronto Check out Paul McCartney's Give Ireland Back To The Irish - it was banned from radio play in the UK

  • @deliveryguytoronto Ill answer all your questions if you answer a few of mine I spent 6 months in Canada im a Irish man living in New Zealand

Why do you a so called Canadian treat your natives like shit and still do as second class citizens’ e.g. Mohawk tribe and the Iroquois nation? These where the same people that helped you (the French) defeat the English (hence why you speak French and that is the only reason) at the cost of hundreds of thousands on lives both sides

  • @deliveryguytoronto Remember you stated not a shot fired right I think not both sides slaughtered till the ground ran red read your own history properly so I suggest you take that log of wood out of your eye before asking me to explain as a Irish man the wee speck of wood in mine or perhaps learn to read in English real history not the corrupt garbage that’s rammed into you at school

  • @deliveryguytoronto As a visitor I was treated like shit in Quebec my only fault being I didn’t speak a bastartised form of French How come even the French don’t like you So when you can come up with some answers ill give you mine

Last question how come in 2012 Quebec still wants to separate its self from Canada

The rest of Canada was great but Quebec nice place apart from the French speakers

  • Terrible Virgin EMI edit of a great song. A minute cut out and it really grates.

  • as a protestant living along the border on the republic side life was hell, intimidation was rife as was murder, we just kept our heads down and hoped nobody worked out what our religion was

  • Listen to the chieftan's "he moved through the fair" a very old song.

Then tell me if this was ripped off.

  • @xpandion99 Maybe, but I bet you The Chieftans would be proud . . . Peace

  • yes i am..

  • the deaths were squabbles over land, however trouble exists in that region because of protestants looking after catholic children. The peep o day boys. Then its brittish rule flogging workers, cruel landlords.

  • @Specialk1719 very very few died for religious reasons

  • Great song from the 80's. Good band they were. Great sentiment in that song.....life goes on.........

  • Terrible waste of life, what did they fight for now they're ruled by Brussels.

  • I have always loved the words & music 2 this song. Very beautiful. & very sad, 2.

  • Sgt Walker RM. Belfast Lough, Palace Barracks, Rathlin Isle, along the border area, Amah, hunting for the IRA and the Provo’s. Neither side won. Compromise in the end prevailed.

  • @SgtWalkerRM They deserve it (the Irish) they are so stupid to fight with people of a different religion; complete muppets!

  • @SgtWalkerRM beatiful song and at the same time a response to current events at time. Huge simple minds fan.

  • @SgtWalkerRM A victory over war and violence is thousand times better than a victory over your opponent. If only more people could understand that.

  • @SgtWalkerRM nice to see a good mucka being ralistick from bootneck 42

  • @SgtWalkerRM No winners in a war, only one side that lost a little bit more than the other side.

  • Classic song from a truly brilliant band.

  • IRA forever...

  • gob bless cukie ar lar

  • Damian O'Hare was the little boy

  • GOD!?!?! you're having a laugh. Religion is a complete fabricated pile of pish. All we are sure of is the here and now.

  • desde que escuche esta hermosa cancion me gusta.

  • this belfast child will never sing at all,as long as secterian hatred, secterian bands are trying 2 bully their way down our streets :( when we have complete equal rights ,and no majority rule ,then myb my kind will sing like the free birds of ireland :) until then its best i keep it zipped ........ why oh why cant loyalist bands just stay and play in their own areas ? where they seem 2 be welcome ,the we can all live happy :) oh and amazing song :0 ty for posting :)

  • @TheGlenmanusskinhead Because loyalists are all out to show how superrior they are mate, if you're from Nothern Ireland, you'll know that they are all scum, obsessed with power, money, greed, and above all, hatred for Catholics, basicaly, a bunch of selfish neanderthals that dont have a brain between them.

  • A classic one.

  • North Korea ?

  • @7071t6 Palestine?

  • One of the greatest band's from the 1980's. Period.

  • the troubles are a skidmark on humanity.

  • @Snakey2012 mate the troubles have been going on since the 1500-1600s.....one big elongated mess

  • love it

  • Toddlers don't see colour, they don't see religion or culture, they just see beauty. May the children of Ireland see beauty in their future now and for ever.

  • I love this song but its true NI needs to be repatiatoed with dublin THE uk dose not need NI

  • Well... I don't know how was that shit in your country but I was born in north of france in coal mines palces and it was a kind of belfast place I think. understand me or not but as we are all humans when I'm listening this song I just want to cry.

  • take away any political views. would love to hear the belfast child sing again. great music and songs.

  • What a fuckin tune.

  • I am unfamiliar with all the history over in Ireland, but I like the song for what I think it is, just a song.

If you are wondering I live in Australia, I grew up during the 80's listening to lots of different music Simple Minds was one band I liked.

  • @DKashman Let us hope it all becomes forgotten history and both sides live in peace

  • kill the troubles , wakey wakey hands off snakey lol

  • Fockin dirty unionist scum!

Leave Ireland to the irish ppl !

  • Bye the way the blessing from an Englishman!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    God bless you!

  • God bless northern Ireland.........

  • Thumbs up if your from N ireland.

  • The best song Simple Minds period! This is why we love The Simple Minds. Check our covers of The Simple Minds and rate them please. Do not forget we are NOT The Simple Minds ofcourse.. We are just a local band from Brabant The Netherlands.

  • Screw the troubles, what did it achieve. 3000 people dead for what. Religion is man made bullshit. Rip to the people who died, no matter what religion they were, just think of what they might have achieved if they had lived.

  • @setter55 Respect!

  • @setter55 Spot on Mate ?

  • @setter55 Excellent - nice to see we now have atheists who are intolerant of others and spread the hate - besides your confusing english imperialism, greed, materialism etc with spirituality. I guess that it is inevitable that in a culture more materialistic, violent and intolerant as any that went before you would go for the dopey old religion scapegoat rather than the age old human condition. Those that were killed wouldnt appreciate your mocking of their beliefs added to the mix I am sure.

  • @wolflegioXIII class

  • @setter55 we as a race are better than squabble, the people in charge want us all to row. its called divide and conquer

we are all gods children no matter colour or creed or haircut

  • @setter55 It's not about religion. It's about culture. In Ulster and Glasgow you have had a battle between the Irish and the Scots for dominance. They should unite and tell the Zionist London bankers to fuck off.

  • @setter55 this is the way i look at it if your from the falls of the shankill your still a tramp

  • @setter55 The troubles had nothing to do with religion, I agree it is bullshit, but the troubles had a deeper cause to brush it off as just about religion or even mainly about religion is to show ignorance of the history.

  • @conorucd if the troubles had nothing to do with religion ... what was it all about then?

  • @Specialk1719 The British army being in Ireland and the six counties being part of the UK and not the Republic of Ireland.

  • Comment removed

  • @conorucd Religion had a major part in the troubles .... the 6 counties are a part of britain because the majority of the population are protestant and Great Britain is dominantly protestant and the Catholics who are in those 6 counties want a 32 county nation (Ireland) .... obviously this creates conflict in which the troubles were.

  • @Specialk1719 The troubles have nothing to do with religion, the demographics of the 6 counties is split into catholic and protestant (mostly) but the troubles had nothing to do with religion.

  • @conorucd If the troubles had nothing to do with religion how come people were killed for being protestant or catholic.

  • sono 20 anni che lo ascolto, e mi provoca ancora emozioni.

  • a beautiful piece of music.

  • Simple minds were the biggest band on the planet at one time..I think u2 even supported them?U2 took the next step and simple minds did not? I still love their music...

  • Is, this a good song or not???????????? Never mind all the political stuff.Classic!

  • 100% ståpels....

  • My heritage lies in the extremes of both sides of the troubles.

Whether your lips speak of Tiocfaidh ár lá or No Surrender I wish all in Northern Ireland a Happy Christmas & Peace filled new year. Reconciliation and Love.......... at the end of everything.

  • @muttoncyborg i echo that ..well said!

  • @muttoncyborg Right on mate, fucking right on. Pithily put.

  • muito bom eu me lembro das discotecas do rio de janeiro a vinte anos

  • This is a classic track, but I do remember it caused huge controversy when it was released. It was at the height of the troubles in 1989, and many from Ulster were upset that a Scottish band were making money from their plight.

  • @djb66v2 a scottish band of irish descent. what's your point caller?

  • masterpiece!

  • 150 assholes from Dublin.

  • Jim Kerr....one of my most favorite male-singers in the whole entire world....

  • Jim Kerr is a mainstreamler and Charlie Burchill onliest job is, looking sexy!

  • Northern Ireland rules.

  • This is an amazing song!

  • When? Great interpretation!

  • Theres a few people on here would want to get a bottle of cop on, most of you lads would brick yourselves at the thought of REAL confrontation

  • IRA!!! the true defender's today against British terrorism in this country since 1916. Before that the united Irelander's and right back.

  • @Paddy234 Thats right Paddy. You keep killing the women and children. Heres a great idea. Why dont you hold hands with the other side while youre doing it. Prick.

  • @chanctonbury63 Only British force's are the legitimate target by the IRA, no point in yapping about it just because you support British rule as it won't change reality here

  • Comment removed

  • @chanctonbury63 And the british keep killing hundreds of innocent middle easterns? prick

  • @JordoF6 Whats that got to do w Ireland you silly cunt. Apart from your friend Gaddafi of course.

  • @chanctonbury63 Gaddaffi isn't the republics friend you ignorant ejiot hes was the Northern irish Ira's ''friend''.And Libya is in northern Africa you idiot. And my point is you dear call a people who wan't freedom terrorists whilst it was your country who invaded and terrorized the world.

  • @JordoF6 Well at least weve got it straight that Libya is in North Africa and Gadaffi armed the IRA. You really need to get over the history lesson tho` and move on w your life. Its in the past.

  • @chanctonbury63 you probably dont know about all the shit the british did to ireland for over 200 years, over 1 million people died because of their ignorance

  • @clippy2010 Yes I do have a pretty good idea thanks. My Grandpa was in the Black and Tans for a while which is not something that fills me with great pride to be honest.

  • @chanctonbury63 at least you realise, im not angry with unionists in general, just those who march in the streets honouring the murders of hundreds of irish folk

  • @clippy2010 The Pope gave his blessing for the invasion of Ireland!

  • @2409chris and the queen is german

  • @Paddy234 GROW UP

  • There must have been a fair breeze when they made the video :P Brilliant song

  • I`m walking the beat on the Shankill 30 years ago when I hear this.... Going for breakfast at Michaella`s kitchen, corner of Agnes Street.... good luck

  • hes a scumbag that kerr

  • Comment removed

  • @Alpinerbergen What the fuck do you know about you Teutonic prick?

  • @chanctonbury63 Everything, for sure. That is why I voluntarily inform at youtube an unknowing emptyheaded person like you. That is what a nice person I am, instead of you.

  • Beautiful Song!!! I hope that Catholic people and Protestant people in Belfast live in peace whith each other. I am Protestant, but I don't want tho be my Catholic brothers and sisters are be punischment by the "Orange-marches" of the Protestant brothers through the Catholic area's in Belfast. I hope it's gonna be peace in this City of Belfast!!! It's a bloody shame to see how christians (catholic or protestant) who became to each other to fight for the freedom on their own religion. PEACE!!!

  • @wietsejan1980

    What? Indecipherable!

  • @DaronWoodward

Not " indecipherable" at all to those of us who live in the more peaceful parts of the world.
