@scarekrow9 First of all this is joy of making and of course not only. I use another homemade stove when traveling by car but mainly for simple things like boiling of water and and warming up food. Things that doesn't require much time.
@isa2978 It is possible to use gasoline (better white gas or cleaned gasoline) for this type of burners. The problem is that gasoline requires smaller jet size. Therefore if you can make burner with adjustable jet size you can use almost any fuel exept maybe desel (requires pump). So far I have made only trial version of burner with adjustable jet( in one of my videos).
@brokenAeroVT - I was just thinking the glass could break. It's a very cool stove. I would put up with the weight for backpacking. Looks like it holds a lot more fuel than mine.
@AllieXii Those small glass jars are quite strong and heat resistant if you don't break them by dropping on hard ground (metal, stone, ....). However I don't know how glass will behave after continuous heating and cooling. I use it very seldom. Mostly I use my homemade copper stove which is twice bigger but can be made also smaller.
@AllieXii You can make these using aluminum cans. Plenty of people have vids of those. I saw one stove boil two cups in 4 minutes using 5-6 grams of white gas. White gas needs less energy to vaporize the fuel, so compared to alcohol stoves using the same coil-flame contact area, it's a LOT faster.
@AllieXii His goal isn't aimed at ultralight backpacking. He carries them in his car, so weight isn't an issue. The temperature of the glass can never rise above the boiling temperature of the fuel which is in the nieghborhood of 55-82C, less than boiling water. The glass jars are really convenient in that they twist closed without any tooling or epoxy required.
@BrokenAeroVT Mostly i use 96% ethanol. In my opinion it is the best. Isopropyl alcohol also can be used, flame is little bigger but still acceptable. Haven't tried methanol. Mixture of ethanol and white gas burns very good, but size of jet has to be decreased. Adjustable jet size would be best option.
@lebammabel Thanks. When you put 60ml of ethanol in this jar, do you have ANY idea how long it takes before you see boiling inside the glass jar? Do you ever see boiling in the jar?

I was just wondering how much heat is being drawn away from the direct vaporization by conducting down the copper tubes into the tank. I know the reservoir tank gets heated up--so it is happening--but it doesn't seem that much if no boiling is taking place there. I wonder if the copper tube needs to go all the way down into the tank. If it stopped at the lid, I would think the stove might boil faster.

I think tubes are main fuel heaters and first pressure is building up in tubes especially in glass burner. If tubes stop at the lid I think preheat time will be longer (only my guesses).
@lebammabel Boil in fuel is delayed because there is too much mass in the fuel & body of the stove for the conduction in the copper tubes to heat up before the cooking job is done. Copper is the main fuel heater, then heat conducted through the liquid fuel & lastly through the gas vapors themselves. There may be a little heat that migrates through the connection of the copper tubes to the stove body also. Preheat will be faster if you have less heat being robbed to other places (jar & fuel).
I haven't checked but I think that as far as you have wick in tubes it doesn't matter what is size of jar. Only thing it shouldn't be very high, otherwise it will be too hard for wick to transfare fuel.
I haven't tried, but somebody approximately week ago posted video where he is using kerosene and it works, only jet hole has to be made very small. The same with Coleman white gas - it works good, but jet has to be smaller than for alcohol. But I can say that alcohol delivers more than enough energy and by adding white gas to alcohol even more.
I tried bending the damn pipe with sand but I can't keep it from creasing. EXTREMELY difficult to rap copper pipe into a coil. Is there any pointers you can give me other than the sand and wood. there has to be a better way to wrap a damn coil on a pipe, I went through about 10 feet of copper pipe(expensive as you know) and still can't create a decent coil like yours.
For my selves sand is easiest and most affordable way, But I know that others fill tube with water and then freeze and shortly afterwords bend. If you use hard copper than you can heat it with torch it will get soft. But better to use soft copper tubes (8mm). They are in rolls. If you still are going to try sand, then try to pack sand in tube tightly, make it dense. I think that with soft tube and impacted sand everything should be OK.
Use Bowden wire casing (bike brake cable, throttle control, speedo drive) in the pipe and wrap it around dowelling. Make sure you can do the wrap in one motion or the copper will harden and prevent a smooth curve. Anneal copper by heating until a red flame. Air cool. It will then be soft. Smaller diameter copper pipe is available as brake line for cars, see a motor factors. It's also available as fuel line for lpg installations. See a boat chandlers.

Thanks for appreciation. I don't know what B&Q, but I found this tube and unions (or compression hardware) in special compressor store. Some people instead of unions uses J-B Weld type clue.
Well I managed to secure some 8mm pipe from my mate, and I had some chemical metal in the shed, but no sand, so I tried, wait for it lol, ground coffee, but it wasnt dense enough and the pipe kinked! :D
I definitely plan on making one of these stoves. How do you make the flame go out after your done using it? Do you just cover and and let it die? Thx for the videos.
This burner can be easy shut down by blowing flame off. Therefore it requires windscreen in windy weather (stove body is good enough). Another way - you can cover jet hole with peace of metal (like screwdriver) and flame will die.

Thanks. Ones I made one adjustable flame burner, you can find video in my account, but it was only trial version with temporary nut fixing (with high temperature resistant clue - but not enough). I want to make another one and this time I will fix nut to coil using gas torch which melts hard solder and hopefully will be usable for hard soldering (or maybe brazing). Only problem I haven't found so far needed screw and nut.
To tell truth I dont know exactly and can only guess. Normally pure alcohol burns outside with invisible flame and in room with blue flame. I think that by increasing size of wick or decreasing size of jet, increases pressure of alcohol vapor. Consequently increases gas pressure and temperature which comes out of jet and color changes. Ones more it is only guess. Sometime I will try to check it out by decreasing size of jet.
Nice stove but is misleading >Baking > Not !
Frying would be a better term , Baking requires a oven .

Use a saute technique, rather than pushing the 'taters around in the pan, and they'll cook more evenly and get a more even coating of oil ;-]
