  • Simply the best!

  • I love this poem and this poet.It is the dream of my life to write with half this skill-if I make I will die in peace.

  • It's always good to add the translator's name and acknowledge that is one person's interpretation of the poem.

  • this is beautiful, but its 1OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO times much better in spanish

  • Oh it's way way way waaaay better in Spanish, but I like it :)

  • Of course , it Is better in spanish be cause Neruda Wrote That in Spanish (sorry for my words i speak spanish)

  • way better in spanish

  • Thank you for this beautifull video, it comes at a precious moment !

  • This is the epitome of unrequited love. A longing for that which is gone, yet it still remains and always will. This reading touches the very essence of that pain.

  • wonderfull !!!!!!!

  • I've been hearing readings from monotonous, decrepit old men and let em tell you this is like hearing pure ecstasy

  • Ah...the way the words wash over me like only Neruda can and the voice of Glenn Close which can make one's soul still for a moment...

  • crystalthread - silverlining

  • Pablo Neruda was the perfect poet.

  • does anybody from here know where i can download this as an mp3 version? thanks so much

  • does anybody from this thread know a link where i can download this as an mp3? thanks!

  • such a captivating poem I think it's about someone who is trying to help another person dealing with depression

  • @lindsaylohansucks its about love and seeing the beauty in someone even when they're asleep motionless and knowing that their presence alone moves you and being grateful that they're with you

  • *Sob*

  • Glenn Close's voice is sooo perfect for this particular poem by Him..

  • nice vid

  • hum seems that who ever translated nerudas poem did not really know spanish, the original title is "Me gustas cuando callas" which would actually be " I like it when your silent" "or even " I like it when your quiet" LOL

  • One definition of 'still' is silent, as in 'the night was still.'

  • @Baphometsblood Still is a much better word choice than sill or quiet. It implies a lack of sound and absence of movement which is important to understanding this poem. Silent/Quiet would imply someone enjoying the other to shut up and never talk which is not when this poem is about. Clearly, you don't know Spanish or English very well and if you ever see this poem in a book as "I Like for You to Be Quiet" throw out the book.

  • @oktoast Well said. Yes, Still is not Quiet.

  • @Baphometsblood

English lesson for you: It's "you're" not "your".

And since you know nothing about poetry translation either, here's one for you: I like it when you shut up.

  • @quenuca You are an unbelievlble - eh unbevielebel - eh no - unbvliebelel - eh, wait a minute, give me a second great grease master - eh grease master the great, you are to big for my words. It's you're not your master. Indeed you're master of the poetry translation. YOU'RE RIGHT.

  • I luv ur voice.. it comands me, to be and remain still....

  • tad pretentious

  • I absolutely love Pablo Neruda's poetry as his words are so deep and sometimes dark but always really beautiful and Glenn Close's voice suited this poem perfectly.

  • For someone special...you know who you are Shakira x

  • The tone of the poem is captured Glen Close's voice

  • Me gustas cuando callas porque estas como ausente

Y me oyes desde lejos y mi voz no te toca

Parece que los ojos se te hubieran volado

Y parece que un beso te cerrara la boca...

    neruda neruda

  • This is GORGEOUS.

  • Inħobbok hekk: wieqaf, daqslikieku mintix hawn

u qed tismagħni mill-bogħod imbiegħed u leħni ma jasallekx.

    Qishom għajnejk ittajru l hemm

u qisha bewsa għafsitlek xofftejk flimkien.

Hekk kif kollox mimli bir-ruħ tiegħi

hekk inti tfeġġ mill-kollox, mimli bir-ruħ tiegħi.

Inti bħal ruħi, farfett ta ħolma,

    u int bħall-kelma: Melankonija.

  • Κάθε βράδυ

    γυρνώντας σπίτι

    ανεβαίνω σκάλες,

    αμέτρητες σκάλες,

    τόσες που πλαγιάζω

    κατάκοπος να κοιμηθώ.

    Και κάθε πρωί

    έχω την ίδια απορία:

    πως γίνεται να ξυπνώ

    μέσα σ'ένα υπόγειο;

  • porque existe la Santa Poesia no morire del todo, amiga mia!

  • such a powerful poem!

  • This is Pablo Nerudas's Poem#15.

    WONDERFUL!!!

  • Where is this taken from?

  • Soundtrack CD for 'Il Postino' (The Postman), 1994, a Pablo Neruda film. Or do you ask about the picture? It was taken in a Norwegian fjord.

  • I meant from what CD/movie ;) Thanks for sharing it!
