Do what I do-- use the GIMP. It's not all that user friendly, but it's free and will (with some cajoling) do almost anything Photoshop can do.

It all depends on what you're trying to do, really. And how perfectionist you intend to get with it. But at the end of the day, good writing can make up for bad editing, but it doesn't tend to work the other way around.

if you use Sony Vegas, you just make a mask and overlay the original footage over the scaled-down "window".

I used to use WMM, but I had a friend "tell me about" Sony Vegas and I've been using it ever since. Only downside is that producing the videos with SV takes a lot longer.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that. As a couple of people have pointed out, there are quicker and easier methods using Vegas or Premiere, but I'm too cheap and lazy to buy/learn something other than what I have (Ulead).

Alls I'm saying is that if you can't get it to work with WMM, don't ask me, 'cause I can't help you. (-:

Actually for some editing software the process os quite simple. Like with Sony Vegas masking will do the job.

But then again not all video editing software can mask.

No offence but this is a really complicated way of pic in pic/vid in vid, The best programs to use for this are Adobe After Effects or Sony Vegas, you just put the Tv screen footage behind the main footage , resize to fit the Tv area and then draw a mask in the Tv area to make it transparent so it shows the footage behind, you can even animate the mask to move if the character moves infront of the tv
