  • My school is doing this musical! No, it's not a small stage that has hardly any sets, and hardly any audience. We perform in front of at least 1,200 people. And it's an ALL school musical, so everyone is in it! The school goes to 8th grade. It's really fun. I'm gonna try out for Peter Pan or Wendy. Who says Peter can't be Asian, or a girl? (;

(I was chip, from the beauty and the beast last year) :)

  • Ive met Cathy before

  • Why the hell is a women playing Peter Pan? D: I like that they were creative but In my opinion I personally hate the idea.

  • @LadyGagaStatenIsland mainly tradition but the harness is a lot more painful for boys than it is girls...however over the summer i did see threesixty entertainment's production and Peter was played by a boy. But that one had very little music in it and was more based on the original play.

  • I havent seen this since i was little!!!

  • Amazing. Saw the show with Sandy Duncan back in the Day. (my first musical). Saw the video with Martin. Sorry nobody does it like Rigby. Besides being very boylike in appearance and voice being a gymnast gives her an acrobatic advantage to the flying and movement. Mary Martin looked like a spider hanging from a web in a windstorm, her voice was way too "pretty". sorry just my opinion. Saw it 3 times with Rigby, to date none even come close.

  • @ruggerdgmail Mary Martin did a great job in originating the role. She was 42, a Broadway actress, who did a phenomenal job. Of course others would be able to follow her and add to what she did as the original. Rigby was an Olympic gymnast which gave her an advantage along with the more modern tools to create the flying mechanics. Sometimes it is just good to appreciate everyone's contributions. Cathy does have the best flying and we all appreciate it.

  • male or female?

  • This is amaizing

  • I like the Mary Martin version better, but this is still very good.

  • I would hate to be the one who's job it Is to clean off all the glitter after the show. Where was she getting all the glitter from. I didn't see her stick her hands in her pockets or anything

  • Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby will be comming to Tampa Florida, Nov 8 - 13, 2011

  • i hate how peter is always caste as a woman!

  • apart from the gymnastics on the wires for wich Cathy Rigby is obviously beter suited than most broadway actresses I don't really see what's the big deal..Mary Martin did a great and elegant job flying by Foy without an olympic demonstration number and 40 years later they still seem to be going up, down and from stage right to stage left and back.;and they still have the pirouette effect at the end of the song before they fly "out"..

  • I've loved this play forever! I used to perform it in my living room with my sister when I was six. :D

  • these lifts are rapid! and the vocals must be dubbed in this, it must be impossible to sing whilst doing backflips on a harness and wire!

  • @pilchard96 Actually I've been in a production of this show. You actually have to sing and say lines while doing this. It's incredibly hard to do and it takes a lot of practice. This show was done in front of a live audience and therefore is a real production. Cathy Rigby and the 'Darling' children had to work hard to be able to do this. Please don't degrade these actors by insinuating that they are dubbed.

  • @pilchard96 Actually, it's quite possible. HARD, but possible. They were not dubbed because this was recorded in front of a live audience and stage actors are never dubbed. They practice til they get it right!

  • @lovahnotafightah Well Cathy must have incredible breath support and control, to achieve such clarity, whilst flying through the air - I take it the harnesses were fairly comfortable and non-restrictive, as from what I've heard some harnesses are hard to sing in. Either way, ZFC did an incredible job.

  • wow the set went away really fast!!!

  • Where does the set go? hahahahaha

  • This scene must have been so much fun to do. It looks like fun, swinging about like that. Really makes you want to fly again, just like it did when I was a kid. ^w^

  • Just announced!! Cathy Rigby wil lauch a brand new US tour of Peter Pan in August 2011!

  • I had the honor of seeing Cathy do Peter Pan. She was the best I'd ever seen. Absolutely captured the part perfectly. I met her afterwards and my son was too shy to ask for her autograph. She asked his name and told him to come around the table, gave him a big hug and some pixy dust, took time to talk with him and let me take their picture together. She signed his sword and to this day (he is 14 now) he still remembers what an amazing experience it was. She's awesome on and off stage.

  • Cathy is amazing!

  • CATHY RIGBY IS THE BEST PETER PAN THERE EVER IS OR WAS!!!!!

    SHES AMAZING!!!!!!!

NO MATTER WHAT YOU PEOPLE SAY! :p

  • This was the kids song years ago...those days....wish they were still here

  • I think Mary Martin played Peter a lot better, but I love the flying effects in this one. ^^

  • umm no cathy did much a better job

  • @natishot6 This is Cathy Rigby.

She is great. Not sure what you are talking about here.

  • it's a play of corse there not really flying

  • this is marvelous - cathy rigby is amazing! This gives me goosebumps, it is so good.

  • when they fly it looks so real!!!! with the music and then when the set changes very beautful staging! i wish it was revived now and not during the nineties

  • @wendyblue7 Same here. My friend got the chance to play john and he got paid. The show was put on in an outdoor theater and even with one wire the show was a hit.

  • it's funny how in one take he isn't holding the umbrella, and on the next one he is lol

  • there no takes lol this is live. they just cut everything and then put it together

  • im in this play. im a pirate its fun!!! :-D

  • I have the upmost pleasure and excitement of getting the opportunity to play this role and today is most first flying rehearsal.

I have never been more nervous in my life.

  • My first theatrical experience was in a 1975 production as a Lost Boy. I saw the Sandy Duncan version in 1979 and couldn't forget it....Fast forward to 1992, and I went on tour as Smee-with the aforementioned Duncan's beautiful Neverland set. Our Tiger Lily, Dana Solimando, re-created her role in Cathy Rigby's version a decade later. The technical advancements are astounding when one sees the flying ballet! Iit is jaw-dropping. I cannot imagine what it will look like in another 10 years!

  • Cathy Rigby is awesome. She was born to play Peter Pan.

  • Whoever put this video on should put the whole movie on!!! I lost the vhs one 6 years ago and i grew up with that show and i would luv 2 see it again! Thanks!

  • i saw this when i was 4! i loved most of it but at one point it got too loud for me=)

  • even though i have this on dvd i like the other one with mary martin i think it is

  • Wow Great FX

  • i was just watching this earlier this morning, and i still feel like i wanna fly with Peter XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD i love the songs specially I Gotta Crow, I'm Flying, I won't Grow Up and Ugh-A-Wha ^^

  • what happened to liza?

  • Wow this version is very beautiful! I just wish for once theyd cast a boy for Peter! Cathy rigby is doing a great job though....shes just zooming across real fast Im surprised she dosnt get dizzy from all that!

  • I think they cast a boy as Peter for a show in London... apparantly the reviews were terrible! It might be too big of a role for a child.

  • If there are boys who can play Billy Elliot, there are boys who can play Peter. Jeremy Sumpter gave a hugely committed performance in the recent movie version.

  • LOL why this they cast a girl for a male role? she sings like a girl, talks like a girl, and looks like a girl! why didnt they cast a male?

  • Peter is always casted by a women. It's hard for an adult male to sing the high notes Peter has to sing and it's a giant part for a young boy. Also, it's tradition that Peter's played by a women.

  • @peoplelover13 Well, all your reasons for having Peter played by a woman make sense, except for "it's tradition." It would be interesting to see Peter actually played by a boy or a young man. There are adult males who naturally sing in the soprano range. They're called countertenors.

  • @alwaysuseless tradition is the main reason the role is always played by a woman.

  • @ruggerdgmail "tradition is the main reason the role is always played by a woman."

I think you're right about that. As traditions go, I think it's not something to get all worked up about but nevertheless stupid, and the "always" aspect of it is sort of offensive. Only females can be a Peter Pan? Why?

  • @alwaysuseless You might want to try on the "flying" rig before you decide that a male should have the part.

  • @libbychecks The fact that I personally would not be a good choice for playing Peter Pan in a flying rig is irrelevant. There are plenty of males and females who could play the part. I'm not offended by females playing the part. What is offensive is that males NEVER play the part. Why? That it's become a tradition is no excuse. That just begs the question.

If it were Pamela Pan always played by a male, how would you sit with that?

  • @alwaysuseless It is a two-fold reason women always play Peter Pan. An adult woman, professional actress can legally be employed to be on the stage the amount of time the lead has to be on. A male lead would have to be able to look like a 10 year old boy. Also the rigging for flying is not friendly for males to do much more than go up and down.

  • @alwaysuseless I would also add that they guys who have to hold the wires would probably not want to be "flying" a man. These guys are 200 pounds and have big muscles and it is all they can do to "fly" a woman who may weigh 110 pounds for the duration of the flying routine. I don't know too many men or adolescents who weigh 110.

In all Shakespeare's plays the women roles were played by men.

    They didn't wear flying gear.

In Peter Pan, it is practical as opposed to prejudice.

  • hey she is super talented and I am proud of her !

  • Oh, hey, question for eveyone who has played Peter or the one of the darlings in a production---how the heck do you "hook up" to the wire to fly without the audience seeing? I always wondered about that. Thanks!

  • Nana barks off stage and when Peter and the children go to hid, and while Liza and Nana are on stage, the wires are hooked to the kids and peter

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone is hooked up onstage, with a subtle use of old-fashioned distraction. The children are hooked up while Peter is singing "I'm Flying." The audience is watching him instead of the children, who all walk backwards upstage to the closed nursery drapes and get 'hooked up' that way. Peter is hooked up, I believe, right before the song starts, when the lights are turned off and the kids all run back to bed when Nana is barking.

  • That makes sense that she was lipy singing cuz it would be pretty hard flying AND singing at the same time but I saw a production of Peter Pan last summer and there was no way that the actress could've been lip singing

i love cathy rigby as peter pan though!

  • omg THIS IS AMAZING!! really brilliant effects :O I'm totally impressed how it looks like at the end... absolutely GREAT

  • My school, Floyd Central, just rented the official Broadway set for this show. It's amazing. We also have all the same ZFX effects used in the show. Pretty crazy stuff!

  • I'm flying with this company as michael and it is defintley a once in a lifetime type of thing

  • I love this soo much. I was in a professional show of this...i was John...and it was the coolest thing i have ever done!!! Flying is soo much fun!!!!

  • How amazing would it be to be able to do that?!

  • WOW. It must be hard singing and flipping and flying in the air at the same time! She is soooo amazing! :)

  • we did this play lst year! we used this poelpe to fly us, tooo!

  • i saw her in peter pan in LA like 4 or 5 years ago i dont remember too well but i remember liking it

  • Cathy Rigby's Peter Pan was the very first live theatre performance I attended at 4 yrs old in 1990! I was absolutely mesmorized by it all. I was in the isle singing every word & dancing every step (as well as a 4 year old could). I that is what started my passion for theatre. I was able to see her farewell performance a few years ago and was able to meet her & tell her how she inspired me to get involved in theatre and she signed the playbill for me. It was amazing. To me she is Peter Pan. :)

  • This made me cry! Just because I played peter pan and got to fly! its absolutely amazing!

the production I was in also used the duplicated sets and costumes.

  • WHOO!! NRCA LOVES ZFX! Lolll

    This is sweet. FYI

  • Wonderful Actors, :D

  • wow.^^ i love this musical or something?^^

  • This is FANTASTIC! I've been a big fan of the MAry Martin TV performance (the 2nd one) since it first was on TV (I was 5 at the time). But I think I may even like THIS better!!! Does anyone know if the whole thing is on video or DVD?

  • this one is on dvd i found it on a site but the first one with mary martin is still not on dvd

  • awesome!

  • at my school performance i was working the windows to see ( Michile ) to fall of the window bench ....lol and all the action from back

  • cause she's lip singing in this movie so she can do the stunts.

  • i dont no HOW THE HECK she could lip sink in this movie

when it is a LIVE PERFORMANCE!

and its not a movie it is a SHOW

  • she is lip syncing unfortunately but i think its just for this song because of the stunts.

  • yeah. i don't think she is lipsinging. the video just has the audio off a bit. and it's a theatre performance, they would never do that she's trainned to sing while flying which is amazingly difficult.

  • yeah, i have the dvd of this, and my audio is not off. she is definately singing this herself. i was beyond lucky enough to actually see this cast perform. it was beautiful! i felt like a kid again! a truly touching performance.

  • i'm so jealous you actually saw it. it is truly magical

  • actually...i know for a fact she is lip syncing.

they did that for the movie.

i played peter in a professional production of this and i asked the woman (who works for zfx) as she was teaching us and she told us that she only used that type of harness for that show. and she WAS lip syncing.

  • i had goosebumps the whole time!

  • im doing htis musical for my school.

  • I saw her as Peter twice! She was PHENOMENAl!

BUT.... This is not how she did the performance. IN the show she doesn't flip in the song. It takes 2 different harnesses and they mixed it for the TV spot...sad but true!

  • yeah i was actually thinking that as soon as she flipped. i think they might change it on some performances like how actors don't sing the same song EXACTLY the same every performance. and it makes sense they woulod mix it up for tv. she's an amazing peter

  • i saw her as Peter Pan first row a few years ago!! best experiance ever!! the show was amazing

  • ii forgot to put the coma between it and when sorry if you got confused

  • i have a movie of this musical with her in it when i was small i thought she was a boy!

  • i loooooooooove Cathy Rigby!

  • I love this movie :D

  • loves it~!
