it is so clear that it is water. the one core plug has only been damaged by water, are u a idiot or what its so clear to all of us what is going on why not you?
Looks like hydro damage as it has popped the rear out as well. Should of felt a braking effect just before it went. Either the anti hydro valves on the cylinders were not working correctly or there has just been to much water volume. If the piston head had jamed it could of done some major damage to the piston spindle, cross head, slide bars or con rod.

the accident was deffonatly caused by water it starts priming at 1 min 12 secs and dont stop, driver ever thaught of opening the taps? and it wouldnt of happend at all
I was on the same train in the morning of that interesting day, as I was with the Bucks railway centre group, Big shock that it happened, even had a slight glitch in early afternoon with the met tank.
Q.what ill-effects will results from having to much water in the boiler.
A.too high water level in the boiler is bad practice .its restricts the steam space and leads to water being carried over with the steam, which may cause such troubles as damaged clyinders and pistons, bent rods. that will be a costly mistake. most likely a new cylinder casting or a big stitch welding job then a liner fitted.

there was a thud/bang, but the camera is towards the back of the train and on the wrong side. I was sat in the second coach, we heard it there!

The accident wasnt caused by water.
andyg3 3 years ago
what caused it then?
rockdropper12 3 years ago
core plug came out inside the cylinder, then being solid, something had to give.

That poor loco!
Met No 1 is one of my favourite locos, I'm glad it egts to stretch its legs nowadays, and not just trundling up and down the Bucks Rail Centre line.
Good work.
