@80sMeavyHetal That was the idea. The whole comedy of The Munsters was that nothing ever went right, nothing ever matched. You had the creepiness of the entire Frankenstein/Dracula/Werewolf genre of Hollywood classics thrust into the modern era, with Marilyn Munster being the beautiful blonde conduit between monster abnormality and modern human reality.

The other issue was Herman's personality. Herman was supposed to be a killer, not a pussycat. The surf theme thus matched perfectly.

I have Both Seasons of the Munsters on DVD. On my 52" High Def. TV Set with the Blu-Ray Player they are Just Great. The Picture is Three Dimensional, the Sound is Crystal Clear. Loved the show. I always felt both the characterizations and plots on "The Munsters" were better than "The Adams Family". The latter was immature melodrama and cartoonish comedy. Kids liked Adams better. In the history of tv, both shows share a place.

It had more appeal to school children and the less sophisticated. "The Munsters" had more family and gentle humor. you couldn't be further from the truth. first off, both shows ran concurrently together. The Munsters was a comical take on the classic Universal Monsters whereas The Addams Family are based on the characters in Charles Addams' New Yorker cartoons. both Gothic and comedy mixes, but very different from each other and both pure classics.

As the quintessential tv kid, I have to agree that the "Addams Family" held more content for the aspiring monster. Nevertheless, the Munsters were quite fun.. just like the Monkees music and their show. I loved them both. I'm quite serious when I suggest that the drivel that is passed for tv these days must remain in your memories. Sadly, that goes for muzak, too. Alas, a chimpanzee wrote all of that stuff and now there is no more material. lol

Of the two shows I always liked the Addams Family more. It was creepier and smarter and more cynical than the Munsters. What really makes it a shame about what the Munsters could have been is if you ever see the pilot episode. Herman and Grandpa are smarter, meaner and creepier than they would be for the remainder of the show's run.
