The Ice Maiden is still in the River Tyne rusting away and waiting to be cut up I believe. The conversion work never materialised after financial difficulties by one of the parties involved. When it sailed into the River Tyne that day it looked like a lot of work on the River to convert it to an accomadation ship, but it was not to be.
@balacau The Ice Maiden was gonna be rebuilt at one of the shipyards in mobile, al but the vice president overseeing the project to turn the ice maiden into a flotel meaning houseing for oil rig workers embezzeled the money to rebuild it so they shut the project down.
The tunnel segments are being built in one of the old Neptune yard drydocks. Its a shame there wasn't a viewing area to see this happening as I would have been really interested!
I'm not so sure about what's happening with IceMaiden 1 however, nothing seems to be happening with it these days. Anyone know any details?
I was one of the welders getting the ice maiden water tight for it to be shipped back to england. It was a amazeing sight seeing it on that platform.

Its good to see that there is activity and work coming to the Tyne.
And one of the old A & p Tyne dockyards is going to be used to build parts of the new Tyne tunnel.

Hi Backnorth,
I hadn't realised that the new Tunnel parts were being built at A & P. It's great that this type of work is staying locally.
Cheers
