I'm not certain about what's being said about Tari not being humble. Watched his interview with Farah (A Morning With Farah) and he doesn't sound proud at all. Nevertheless, he is probably one of the best tabla players alive at the moment. Also he isn't really showing off is he, people come to see him as well as the other performer. They come to see sangat and interesting plays on lay and he's doing that well.
I saw Tari Khan in concert playing with Abida Parveen in Atlanta. He is so rude that I could not believe my eyes.
He will never rise to that height as other tabla players. He may be good at what he does but humility is not there and he makes others feel little before him.
On the other hand Abida Parveen stopped the car that she was in and signed on couple of CDs that I had. It was very cold that evening but she did not mind doing it for me.
I know Tari personally and he thinks that he is the best thing ever happened to Tabla, He is good but he has forgotten humilty and that is the very essence of music.
tari had told people that ustad fateh ali khan thinks that he has the best laye and that he will make him go out of laye. at the program tari showed up and then fateh ali khan called him to the stage and told him to bajao baya...tari tried all his best, but ustad ji never once went out of laye....peace bro....
kumartabla.....if you like it, thats fine, but the real feelings of music goes away...and by the way, in the early 90's ustad fateh ali khan put tari in his place in new york..
Tari doesnt know the word enough is enough...he is just tooooooooooo much...he should let vocalist do what he has to do. if he wants to prove his laye, then he should do at the time necessary....
@humayoonp This is what has been developed over the years in Pakistani Classical music-a prominent Tabla presence when a song/bandish of any sort is sung/played. Of course I see your point, it can be annoying to some listeners. I myself enjoy Ustad Tari Khan's tendency to steal the show. Although Ustad Tari Khan dominates the song, there is a certain etiquette in Tabla accompaniment and Ustad Tari Khan has a very good understanding of it. Thanks for your comment.
god bless 4 tari jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

TARI IS A SHOW OFF. AND WEARS TOO MUCH MAKE UP. NOT GOOD FOR A MAN TO LOOK SO FEMININE. GOOD TABLA PLAYER BUT NOT HUMBLE ENOUGH.
