WOW! I heard the band name back in the 80's, but never actually HEARD them! Funny...also just linked Nick Kershaw's 'Wide Boy', and I'm Awake late at night right now!
I have every Wide Boy Awake song on vinyl, but I've only been able to find two songs digitally, "Chicken Outlaw" and "Slang Teacher"--it's a shame WBA hasn't been released on disc
I was in class last week and someone asked did Adam Ant go under tha name "Wide Boy Awake"? I told em "no but he sound VERY VERY similiar to him!" This is still a GREAT GREAT song
Actually Adam Ant first started in a band back in the 70s called Bazooka Joe with i believe Sid Vicious on drums, lol. Those guys all new each other back then because they would all go to see each other perform in little hole in the wall bars. Can you imagine being in a bar and seeing Siouxsie and the banshees watching Billy Idol playing a gig along with tons of other bands that all supported each other throughout the era. Just a great time to be in a band and classic music that was created!
Sorry, probably wishful thinking, but Adam was never in a band with Sid Vicious. Sid did 'play ' drums with Marco Pirroni (also of Ants and later Max with Kevin Mooney) for the first incarnation of Siouxsie & the Banshees though!
Sorry, don't know where you got your info from byt Sid wasn't ever in Bazooka Joe. And considering Sid kicked Adam in the head while Ant was asleep (on Jordan's kitchen floor), Vicious made it quite clear he never wanted to work with Adam ever.
Adam came at Sid with a hammer and prolly wouldve kicked the shit outta that junkie. Sid was funny but in all reality he couldnt play shit, he was simply a talentless punk icon. Where as Adam was a post punk musical genius that broke away from that scene and created his own style. Sid was a complete idiot and could never stack up to the talent that Adam had. The real brains in the Pistols were Steve and Paul. Johnny of course is always a fuckin star. Long live all those legends.
I agree, and I think Adam was influenced by Kevin's 'reggae' style for the Wonderful LP. Particularly Beautiful Dream, which of course Kevin Mooney was a key contributor.
I wonder did anybody ever break off this song? I could see it happening his music always sounded like they would be great in tha clubs and/or streets for breakin.

Definitely my fave Wide Boy Awake song. And Kevin Mooney was so gorgeous!
His voice sounds so different to what I imagine it would be. And he looks like such a cute little joker. XD

The helicopter sound, the '80s synth-drum accent, the Spanish guitar riff, the little counterpoint synth line: What genius.
