  • better thank porsche o.o

  • Suprisingly Impressive. I'm guessing this at full speed....I hope....

  • Over 9000 times better than 1998 Fiat Seicento and 2004 Chery Amulet!

  • looks very good actually. to bad that this is not a slowmo :D

  • @stonee206

    oh, sorry mr landwind xD

  • It is made out of cotton, what do you freaking expect....

  • @Fahren47 You mean paper

  • NOOOOOOO TRABI DON'T DIEEEEE :((

  • for a carton box it is very safe

  • 25 km/h ?

  • and that is still good for an trabant xd

  • the science says youre fucked

  • probably at 5km/h :)

  • war unzerstörbar

  • I'm surprised it sis as well as that. Better than a lot of the new Chinese made cars seem to do.

  • at 20 km/h maybe..

  • for a cardboard-made car, this is actually quite immpressive. the roof is intact, the front windshield frame is ok .... for such an old-low budget-low expectation car it's all good :)

  • I exept worst:O

  • not bad at all

  • its safer than a 2011 chinese car...though

  • this test was made at about 60 km/h

  • The new feature of the trabant is that the steering wheel goes up during a crash to protect the driver's head. Who need airbags???

  • crash test 5 km/h :))

  • @unicat97 most of the tests are made with 40 - 70 kmh

  • ***** :D

  • not carboard fibreglasss

  • Let's look on the bright side... at least they perform crash tests to start off with, right?

  • It was only going 10mph when it hit the barrier.

  • its the only car auctually made from cartboard?

  • I love the door markings. BAST TRAP 01. Says it all about recycled GRP cars.

  • super safe

  • that's pretty damn good result for a crap economy and old cars

  • @tadam1972 you are made in the sewers if you think that

  • Comment removed

  • @tadam1972 haha STFU

  • its real time speed video :D

  • Lol the whole front part just got decimated

  • better than Landwind, Geely or Brilliance!

  • @IsoGrifoGL350 and it has more then 54 years since the design came out of the factory first time

  • @IsoGrifoGL350 oh god, I can't believe 37 people thumbed that comment up...

  • Why the car don't have airbag????? So dangerous!!!

  • @tayanders this car was designed in the 50's....

  • @tayanders what cars did have airbags when this was new? Did airbags even exist then?

  • Actuall crash speed!

  • km/h ?????????????

  • better than supra

  • Comment removed

  • and good riddens to it.

  • Crashtest bei 20 kmh ? :D

  • Some body panels are made from pulpe based Fiber Reinforced Plastics(FRP).

    Great Germany technology that time.

  • speed ?

  • At max speed (50 Kmh)?

  • @TPBX2000 Some body panels were made from what was basically compressed paper. It saved heaps of weight

  • was this the car that had the body made from cotton? not joking here. i heard something about that from Top Gear.

  • @TPBX225 Yes, they cotton or paper fiber into a kind of fiberglass. The Trabbi is really atrocious. I have driven one. The two-stroke engine and mechanics are very basic and workable, no problem there. But the rest is just horrible.

  • @MowgliX well, if you want more power, add a wartburg 353 engine, those things were super fast and reliable.

  • airbags failed to deploy

  • @jradetzky There are no Airbags! Its an old car.

  • That car is in Half-Life 2 aka: Trabbi.mdl

  • and can you tell something about the speed and results

  • in what year was this made ?

  • @danmihaigabriel 57-91

  • @danmihaigabriel no not the production of the car , but when was this crashtest made ?

  • bast trapo 1= bastard death trap no1

  • Trabant is made of carton

  • @Xhizorsx - No, Trabant is made of resin-bound cotton, not cardboard as the popular misconception goes.

  • Trabant is one of the best car ever!

  • It those ages car were supposed go ride, not crash...

  • Well everybody:

The today's crash tests are made with 64km/h.

I don't know the speed of that video, but its sure that there would only rest some pieces if they would make the test with 64km/h.

And it's not my purpose to tell you it was a bad car, but really good for its age wasn't it, too

  • This is amazing crash protection compared to many Chinese cars.

  • @dpaanlka - care to prove that little assertion, or are you just prejudiced?

  • 5*

  • Death on wheels. Guaranteed - the front fuel tank just above the engine ensures that you will not suffer in the wreckage for too long.......

  • this video is not in slow motion. That is the actually speed of that trabant

  • 5* +

  • First car that after accident not deforms but breaks :))

  • And it's still doing better than the new Chinese car wonders.

    (Google-translate, sorry.)

  • I bet the communist officials were so jealous of Trabant owners as they whizzed by in their Mercedes Benz's in their reserved lanes. But driving along DDR dirt motorways at Trabant's supersonic speed of 40 km/h was another treat that makes me long for such a contempory vehicle. Who could beat that sub-standard USSR steel that was sent to its so-called allies? Gimme a western shhitbox over a commie wagon anyday, thank you very much.

  • Cry me a river. How I long for the days of Erik Honeker & DDR. Filling up my trabant with gas and oil and having to shake the car to mix the two when it was -25 degrees outside. I especially loved waiting 8 years for Turbo Trabant & inhaling the exhuast that made me gasp for air, but the pollution was pretty as the sun set. I enjoyed the sub-standard steel the USSR sold to build these foxy death traps. The toilet paper roll in the back window with the cozy over it was a lovely added touch!

  • this have better then AIRBAG see the wheel come's UP to not crash your head in

  • xD aus trabi mach mini :D

  • This speed is 20kmh... =)

  • It's better than Chinese new model.

  • @tmnknb no, just... no

  • @tmnknb , i agree !

  • @tmnknb dobrze godosz ;)

  • @tmnknb hey this is a german car :P :))

  • holy... heavy crach... without airbag

  • for critics of socialism and ddr finding opportunity in trampant we see the crash test of golf that time ... with all the war and accept the country has a better crash test from your favorite golf ...

  • BV cartonelu.....BV TRABANT!

  • it´s 10 km/h xD

  • Look @ the steering column

  • Nuova BMW Serie 7 -better. IMHO

  • awesome,better than audi 80

  • 10 km/h ?

  • O.k. the drivers compartment of the Trabbi remains intact, but the broken pieces of the plastic motor compartment are flying like splinters of a bomb all the way round.

  • wtf ?!

it did better than a brand new, modern brilliance ....

  • oops! this is the "german technology"...

  • It wasn't the theoretical speed, don't even wonder if this car is so safe, just a flammable plastic box. :P

  • throw in a safebelt and airbag and u got a safe car

  • if you can take a bmw and do a trip at russia to greece in 1 day....noooobb only russia

  • idiot people don t get what i say

  • gowno z klanki sam plastik

  • myslalem ze sie zatrzyma przed scianka ;D

  • Safe car! but sucks want its a special car from the ddr

  • I don't understand the point of these jokes. For a car designed some fifty years ago out of a steel embargo and an economically and socially ravished German society, I'd say it's a damned good result.

And what do you know: fast-forward to 2011 and you still have them on the streets, relatively rust-free. Because of the Duroplast coachwork.

  • @AdrianMuravey

Damn poor result. Other soviet countries had much better products... FSO, Skoda, Tatra, Volga... hell the Yugo was better. Granted the car was very simple to maintain and run. 2011 and very few are on the streets simply because there are better cars.

  • @AdrianMuravey guess what, move to north america. and theyre still shit.

  • @interpol007

I think we're comparing two entirely different contexts. America pretty much won the 2nd world war. Germany didn't. That meant a slightly different approach to economical car building. Did Canada ever import these? Hard to believe.

This was an European budget car, made with budget materials back in 1957. Sold by the millions. It somehow became a cult car throughout Eastern Europe. Pretty much bulletproof within its operational parameters. Give it a break! Or a brake :).

  • @AdrianMuravey Move to NA like my parents did.

  • @AdrianMuravey Fair point. I don't think the Trabant was ever imported to Canada, though I believe the Yugo and some other Soviet-made cars may have been. Personally, I've never, ever seen one.

Really though, an American car of the 50s wouldn't be much safer. Besides having a weight advantage, 50s American cars were deathtraps.

  • @AdrianMuravey most socialist designed cars were better than their reputations suggest i think. The issue for most is that the aims of designers were different to capitalist designs that were based on desirability, socialist designs were based on utility, that they should be rugged and effective at the job of being a car rather than glitz and glamour.

  • Good? So if I restore it for some nostalgia driving and someone decides to drive right into my trabant, im as good as dead at 40kmh.

  • Trabant Crash Test with 10 km/h...the Trabant was made by paper , not metal

  • @w0lsky this is in slowmotion ...stop with your jokes...

  • Not bad for something made out of cardboard, quite literally lol

  • A tip if you crash with this car: Wait for the steering wheel to slide upwards, so you have a clear way to continue your way to the engine compartment.

  • i z trabanta zrobiło się mini :D

  • german engineering! :-) best results. even with poor materials.

  • Yeah, but. Will it blend?

  • The body of a car is supposed to crumple up like aluminum foil in a crash. It's not supposed to shatter like a pane of glass!

  • Why haven't worked a airbag?

  • @VovaClicko Hahahahaha dude please tell me that you are joking :D:D:D:D

  • @VovaClicko

Airbags? A Trabant has no airbags. They haven't even been invented when the 601 was introduced in 1964 and where expensive extras or simply unavailable in other cars of that small size when they stopped production in 1990.

Drive it like a man, die in it like a man. Trabant drivers get a place in heaven, they had hell on earth :-)

And, just in case you ask, no air condition, ABS, ESP, SIPS or power steering, not even a fuel gauge in the basic model. This was east germany, not west.

  • Really not bad crash test. I expect a real disaster but it didn't happend.

  • @danieltakashi Well, we don't know the speed (I expect something between 30 and 40 km/h) and you can clearly see how dangerous the steering wheel is for the driver and how insufficent the seatbelts are.

  • @no1DdC OK, I agree with you, but I'm still say that it was not bad.

  • @danieltakashi The point is that virtually any car with a reasonable amount of bodywork between the passenger compartment and an obstacle can look like this in a crashtest performed at 40 km/h.

  • Gotta love how the bodywork just sort of.. broke off.

  • Now it's finally ready for the show room floor :D

  • Now it's finally ready for the show room floor :D

  • thats quite tbh if it had air bags than it would be even better, ther is no give in the windowscreen area

  • THIS CAR IS MADE FROM INDUSTRIAL CARDBOARD :|

  • @dragoscorca its made from cotton

  • @19emmi94 :))

No,fro real this car REALLY IS MADE FROM INDUSTRIAL CARDBOARD :|

Also immer schön realistisch bleiben.

  • @BansheeBLN

Merkste was? ;)

  • @nilzig1981 Also, du Zu-Guttenberg-Kopie, leg mal los und zeig mir, was mir so an großartigem und wichtigem Wissen fehlt.

  • @Wochensau Vielleicht nuzt du mal deinen Rechner?! digilander.libero.it/cuoccimix/ENGLISH-automotorusse9-I%28Trabant%29.htm

  • They had made this crash test at 80 km/h...but it can`t go faster than 60 km/h :))

  • @dragoscorca ungurul bulan
