  • what is this type of cam usually used for? can i make short films or music vids on this??

  • @OfficialCypherSon I'm sure this camcorder would be great for short films and music videos. It even has a jack to hook up an external microphone. All you need is some decent editing software, a computer that can handle the HD video, and you're good to go.

  • @Phorenon Thanks. I'll look more into it!

  • @M0zM0vies2 from other website ive read the recommend a class 4 and up to a class 6.

  • @M0zM0vies2 Yes. In fact, the kit I purchased came with an 8GB SDHC card. I believe it needs to be a class 4 memory card.

  • Does it have manual focusing (like touching the touchscreen)?? I'm thinking about buying this camera so... :D

  • @a009omdu Yes, it does have manual focus. The controls are on the touchscreen. You can either adjust according to distance, or tap on the screen to tell the camcorder where to focus.

  • What frame rate did you use?

It would really help my videos!

  • @norwegianguy15777 I used the 60i frame rate.

  • @Phorenon Thanks, it helped a ton!

  • Doesn't anybody else think that the battery life on this camcorder is extremely short? I brought it to my sisters graduation and was able to get about an hour of recording... The quality of the video indoors was not as close as good as it is outdoors. Hmm I wonder if its worth it to purchase another battery for $80

  • @GoldenDurian I've read a lot of reviews for camcorders and one thing I've found to be common is that battery life for HD camcorders can always be better, especially when it comes to the battery that's included. This camcorder is no exception, so you can be sure that I'll be getting a second battery soon. As for quality, I agree that outdoor footage is much better. So far, recording in Cine Mode indoors has given me better results. I'm no expert, so use that information as you wish.

  • @Phorenon Very helpful, thanks. I think i need to get a spare as well...

  • @seabasstion1 The auto focus is rather quick. I'm not seeing any problems unless you're using maximum zoom on objects that are a few inches away (as seen when I zoomed in on the movie cases).

The battery is decent, about 1hr recording (start and stop) or 1.5hrs continuous on the highest setting. It wouldn't hurt to have a second battery.

For the dark, give me a couple days and I'll record something at night which I'll then upload here.

    I don't think the camcorder has a slow-motion setting.

  • Where'd you get that thermometer from? I have one too!

  • @GoldenDurian That Galileo thermometer was a gift. They're very neat, aren't they?

  • @Phorenon yup, I got one from a garage sell.

  • Good video... keep it up! I use the $500 M31... but, anyone should pick this camera up... it has a plug for an external mic. This is a great camera equal to the NBC news cameras. Face recognition, CMOS and much more. Buy one today! See my review.

  • It's $50 off ($299) at Costco through 6/2 or 6/5/11 (can't remember) picked up one today and found your video attempting find reviews before I open it.

  • Are you having any problems downloading the video to a computer? If I can ask, what kind of computer are you using? Finally, does it come with any editing software and is it any good?

  • @DanteVelveeta I didn't have any problems importing the videos to my computer or uploading them online. For the videos I've uploaded I used a 3-year-old HP Pavilion dv5 laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB RAM. On this laptop, the 1080p video looks very choppy because it has a graphics card that isn't very good at handling such high-quality video or graphics. On better-equipped computers this isn't a problem.

It does include editing software; it's similar to Windows Movie Maker.

  • Thanks for the video, and helpful responses in the comments. I'm picking one of these up today!

  • What lighting do you have? Fluorescent ? Regular Light? What wattage?

    Thanks.

  • @MrUnbiasedTruth I had two 23W fluorescent bulbs (the small spiral ones) on the ceiling, two 40W incandescent light bulbs (frosted, not clear) in a lamp behind me, and one 30W halogen bulb in another lamp on the left side. There was also a small amount of indirect sunlight coming in through a window, but the blinds were shut.

  • S it's been a week since the last comment post. Do you like it, Phorenon?

  • @wentsurfing I purchased the camcorder knowing I had 90 days to return it if I didn't like it; I'm not returning it. This might be biased since it's my first HD camcorder, but I'm very pleased with the quality of the video and also the overall feel of the device itself.

  • @Phorenon Awesome. My mind is made up then! I shall purchase this model next week :). Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting the video. Helped make up my mind. Looks like I'm going to Costco tomorrow... May have a tough time choosing a color, tho... :)

  • so far what do you think about this? worth buying for home use?

  • @ranjaa So far, yes I think it's worth it. Especially since it came with a nice carrying case, memory card, and mini HDMI cable. I haven't had much time to play around with it, but the video I've shot so far seems pretty good to me. I bought this kit from Costco for $349.99 and I was able to choose any color I wanted so long as it was black.

One small drawback is that the video will come out grainy if shooting indoors with the automatic setting. I had to switch to Night mode for this video.

  • @ranjaa I just bought one from costco- VERY impressive for the price. What made my mid up was the mic input jack. This will be perfect for recording live shows.
